How many fillings do you have and how old are you?

My parents never took me to the dentist 😩 I started going at 18. I’m now 28 and I have a feeling I’m going to need a lot of fillings. Iv had one so far but I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist! I desperately need braces too!

How many do you have?

I didn't take care of my teeth as a child, I had lots of extractions. I cried at the dentist when I was about 11 so she refused to do a filling, i then needed more extractions. I didn't go at all from age 15 to age 35. I needed one filling. I then went on to need root canal on that tooth and i have two more fillings now that I'm in my 50s. It's actually not too bad considering...

I actually have no fear of the dentist at all now and go 6 monthly - the last filling I had i didn't even bother with the numbing stuff at all. I just had it without.

Thebearsbunny · 17/05/2019 19:02

None. I’m 53

  1. I’m 36 and all of them are from age 10-12. Never need anything done at the dentist now.

39 with 1, only got a couple of years ago

WaxOnFeckOff · 17/05/2019 19:04

DSs are late teens and have never needed any treatment whatsoever - hopefully that lasts.

ValleyoftheHorses · 17/05/2019 19:07

None. 42.
You can get to a ripe old age with no fillings if you don’t eat rubbish and clean your teeth.
Dental visits don’t have a relation to how many fillings you have as dentists don’t cause decay, patients cause their own decay Hmm

BlueberryFool123 · 17/05/2019 19:07

Literally all my back teeth. I had no fillings till I was 29. 3 pregnancies. HG - literally destroyed my teeth.

GimmeBread · 17/05/2019 19:07

50 and it feels like 50 fillings 😢

Root canals x 4
Extractions x 4

I've got a beautiful smile but shit loads of fillings in the molars I have left. Thankfully my visible teeth are problem free.

rosy71 · 17/05/2019 19:08

One filling at age 18. I'm 48 now.

DerelictWreck · 17/05/2019 19:10

27 and more than I can count. Probably 10-15. All dark amalgam too. I have shitty shorty teeth

Charley50 · 17/05/2019 19:11
  1. About 12 fillings!
TheHatOfDoom · 17/05/2019 19:13

None. Never had anything more than a scale and polish. Although my wisdom teeth took a long time coming through and got infected twice.

I’m 37, my current dentist says never say never but if I made it this long without I’m likely to never need one.

minipie · 17/05/2019 19:13

One, this year, I’m 38.

Some people do have weaker teeth than others and things like crowded teeth, large gaps between molars, heavily “fissured” molars and mouth breathing can also increase the risk of decay. So it’s not all down to better or worse dental hygiene.

I did have fissure sealant put on my molars as a teenager and I think that really helped. I’ve just had it re done as it had mostly worn off. So if you have 10+ year old children I would recommend considering that.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 17/05/2019 19:22

Mid-thirties, two fillings (in the last 12 years). It's nothing to be ashamed about!

GreenEyedDevil · 17/05/2019 19:26
  1. None.
MummyBear2352 · 17/05/2019 19:27

I honestly can’t remember because I had all my silver fillings changed to white ones years ago! I don’t even think about it and haven’t done for a verrrrrrry long time!

Omg, dentists are not like they used to be! I’m in my early 40s! They’ll make you soooo comfortable. I would suggest you do some meditation, breathing exercises to get a grip on your anxieties beforehand : )

MissPinkCakeyBun · 17/05/2019 19:48

1 from a cracked tooth following a DV Marriage where I took a few punches and slaps....I'm 51and have strong teeth other than that

Lucked · 17/05/2019 19:57

Loads. Most of my teeth in clouding one root canal which subsequently needed a crown. Pretty much all aquired as a teenager. Teeth brushing was not a priority in my house growing up.

Since looking after my teeth as an adult it has mostly been replacing filllings that are old or broken. I think if you needed fillings because of your Mum not taking you as a child they would have been found at 18.

3in4years · 17/05/2019 20:20

I have 2, but one is massive.
I am 36 now. Had my children when I was 31, 33 and 35. Both fillings I got aged 34. I blame the kids.

NoWordForFluffy · 17/05/2019 20:21

None.

YouJustDoYou · 17/05/2019 20:25

I have maybe 8. My mum would always give me sweets, but never actually supervise my brushing/check my teeth etc. So, by 8 I already had a few :(

Aozora13 · 17/05/2019 20:28

I’m 38 and have 3 fillings. Didn’t have any until I was 35 and pregnant as cleaning my teeth made my retch and/or puke. Between that and my terrible anti-nausea diet I’m amazed I didn’t get scurvy and have all my teeth fall out!

Olissa8 · 17/05/2019 20:37

None, and I'm 39. I do think a lot is down to luck. I grew up somewhere with fluoridated tap water which I think made a big difference too.
