How many fillings do you have and how old are you?

My parents never took me to the dentist 😩 I started going at 18. I’m now 28 and I have a feeling I’m going to need a lot of fillings. Iv had one so far but I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist! I desperately need braces too!

How many do you have?

4 and I'm 34. My mum used to let us drink fizzy drinks all the time as kids 🤦

lotusbell · 17/05/2019 18:24

Too many and I'm 39 tomorrow! I was always the one who had to see the hygienist and use those awful disclosure tablets, whereas my brother was always in and out, although he did end up with braces. My dentist as a child petrified me - huge with massive black tache and eyebrows and he'd shout at me. I ran out once. As soon as I was old enough, I changed dentists. Had some awful root canal work last year which left me having the tooth out and got my check up due now. I'm too scared not to go so always do. My DS12 is a lazy bugger when it comes to his teeth though so still have to supervise.dont want him to fear going but at the same time, don't want history repeating itself. Doesn't help that his dad is lax with his teeth so he quite often comes home after a weekend there and has forgotten at least once. I'm either unlucky or have awful teeth. Just go, OP, any problems you may have need dealing with sooner rather than later.

lolabellina · 17/05/2019 18:29

I'm 32 and have 7. I was bulimic for about 15 years so to be honest I'm surprised they're not in even worse condition than they are now.

None, I am 51 but grew up with fluoridated water.

BummyKnocker · 17/05/2019 18:31

And didn't visit dentist from age 8 to 23 so didn't get the braces I needed. I'm planning on rectifying that soon. Smile

EssexGurl · 17/05/2019 18:34

None.
48.

However, my Mum was very organised. We always went every 6 months - she made the next appointment when we were there!

I hate the dentist and didn’t go for most of my 20s but restarted properly when I hit mid-30s.

Looneytune253 · 17/05/2019 18:35

I have none and I'm 36. Dental hygiene wasn't pushed as a child but I've managed ok. Only been to dentist once in last 8 years but have looked after my teeth as an adult. I did once have a hole in a tooth but as it was a wisdom tooth they took it out. I had all my wisdom teeth out over the years.

gobbin · 17/05/2019 18:35

I have been regularly to the dentist all my life but I have loads of fillings and crowns, my teeth are just crap. If I won the lottery they are the first thing I would fix

Me too. I just have shit teeth. Had five removed age 5, ten out age 7 (all baby teeth) and have had most molars and some premolars filled more than once over the years. 3 crowns.

I have ALWAYS brushed my teeth twice a day religiously, even as a child. I always enjoyed doing it. I don’t deserve these teeth 😭🤣

fedoff · 17/05/2019 18:38

I'm 41 and have one tiny filling. I've always had lovely teeth but since moving to the Middle East my teeth are awful because of the water

IntoValhalla · 17/05/2019 18:43

None, I’m almost 25.

The most I’ve ever had done other than a check up is a nice clean and polish while I was pregnant with DC2. I had braces as a teenager but didn’t require anything more than the basic orthodontic treatment.
I’m really really anal about teeth brushing though! I brush my teeth 3 times a day Blush

kaytee87 · 17/05/2019 18:44

2 small ones, I'm almost 32 and haven't had one for years. Not actually convinced I needed those 2 in the first place.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 17/05/2019 18:47

I win, I win!!

I had a lovely mum but dental hygiene must not have been her priority as by the age of 14 I had amassed 18 fillings, all lovely mercury ones. They did a good job though as I am now 44 and they are still all intact. Also had a to have a wisdom tooth out after it crumbled away. Also quite traumatised by dentists so the fillings were not a pleasant experience.

Also didn't have fizzy drinks / many sweets as I was so scared of the dentist.

Fuzzyend · 17/05/2019 18:47

None - 46.

It's more about what you do on a daily basis than whether you go regularly to the dentist.

WanderingTrolley1 · 17/05/2019 18:49

About 12. I’m 41.

kaytee87 · 17/05/2019 18:50

@Fuzzyend also to do with genetics and the shape of your teeth or so my dentist told me.

My BIL had to have lots of baby teeth removed as a small child as something in his saliva was decaying them. MIL was apparently really upset as she did everything 'right'. DH teeth totally fine, 2 fillings as an adult.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem1 · 17/05/2019 18:50
  1. 40 and grew up in rural Australia with untreated water. (And have had wisdom teeth out)
Gazelda · 17/05/2019 18:51

None. I'm 51.

BIWI · 17/05/2019 18:54

I'm 59. I have nearly all my back teeth (that I have!) filled.

I've done quite a bit of research with dentists, and they all talk about my generation being 'drill and fill'. They used to get paid per filling. So as soon as there was any sign of a problem it would mean a filling.

Even worse, when I was a child, the dentist used to do fillings without any kind of anaesthetic. Barbaric.

AhhhHereItGoes · 17/05/2019 18:54

I have one but think I may need another.
I have had teeth out when younger but that was due to overcrowding.
I'm 29.

firstimemamma · 17/05/2019 18:55

2 aged 29. Didn't think I was doing too badly until I read in 40s and none, that's impressive!

delilahbucket · 17/05/2019 18:57

4, 33 years old. Not had any new ones for 14 years though.

CakeNinja · 17/05/2019 18:59

I’m 33 and have 2 fillings, one root canal, one crown and need one implant and all 4 wisdom teeth removing.
My dental health gets me down! My smile looks okay though, but the back ones are just weak.
I wasn’t taken to the dentist as a child and only started going when I met dp and he was a regular dentist visitor.
He breezes through the twice yearly checkups whereas I always have to go back inbetween for other things without fail.
I’m scared of the dentist because I always feel like I’m not doing enough to look after my teeth and like I’m going to be told off for it - I never have been but I don’t want to disappoint! My old dentist was actually quite scary looking and in his mannerisms but through all the treatments he performed on me, I was never ever once in any pain.

Smolo · 17/05/2019 18:59

My dentist told me that most tooth decay happens in your teens. Fillings after that time are few and far between and normally just repairs of old fillings.

AhhhHereItGoes · 17/05/2019 18:59

Have had 3 wisdoms out though.
But that's obviously not bad dental hygiene.

DeadDoorpost · 17/05/2019 18:59

1 temp atm as I'm pregnant so can't sort it properly without an x ray. 25.
