How many fillings do you have and how old are you?

My parents never took me to the dentist 😩 I started going at 18. I’m now 28 and I have a feeling I’m going to need a lot of fillings. Iv had one so far but I’m absolutely terrified of the dentist! I desperately need braces too!

How many do you have?

No fillings, no cavities - 40 this year

ohdearmymistake · 17/05/2019 23:54

53 no fillings

Megan2018 · 17/05/2019 23:56

None, 41.
I have really good teeth but have naturally strong ones according to my dentist. I’ve also always had top notch private dentists.

I used to drink a shed load of full fat coke too so clearly that didn’t rot them. I brush really well though.

None, 40 in a couple of weeks.

I have roughly one in each molar so 12.

Yikes.

But they are white do you can’t see them. They used to be silver and have gradually been replaced.

I was not good at cleaning my teeth as a child or young adult due to depression.

YouBumder · 18/05/2019 00:38

46 and I have quite a few. They seemed more “filling happy” back in the day plus I ended up with a few following infections due to overcrowding. I’ve not had any fresh ones for well over 20 years. I had one replaced earlier this year.

YouBumder · 18/05/2019 00:42

but none in the past 25+ years since I had my wisdom teeth out and they had some room to spread a bit. Mid-40s now.

Now I come to think of it I haven’t had any since I had mine out. That was 1994.

Screamingontheinside · 18/05/2019 00:46

None and I’m 40

BlueCornishPixie · 18/05/2019 00:51

kneel yes they would most likely. You can tell if teeth are hypomineralised, and it's rarely on all the teeth normally on one type of tooth, generally first adult molars but can be on any.

It could be lots of things, talk it through with your dentist if you are worried. That's what they're their for! Are your DC brushing their own teeth or are you?

AwdBovril · 18/05/2019 00:52

None. I'm 38. I did have wisdom teeth out as they grew wrong & got infected.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 18/05/2019 00:52

39 and one filling and one (wisdom tooth) removed.

RitaMarga · 18/05/2019 01:29

Yeah, the dentist can see if your teeth have hypomineralisation. My son has it quite badly and the dentist thinks some of the teeth will need pulling in the next year or so, and some can be crowned. He thinks it's very unlikely they will make it through to adulthood. I feel really bad about it. I had horrendous HG during pregnancy and wonder if it's due to that.

DecomposingComposers · 18/05/2019 02:04

Notquiteagandt · 18/05/2019 02:07

4 white ones here at 30 (huge ones across 2 teeth) all wisdom teeth out and 2x molars out.

Hyperemesis in pregnancy destroyed my teeth 😢😭😢

Incognitalgnorama

Well, when they all fall out of our spongy gums, our jars full of perfect teeth will be some sort of comfort 😁

Qweenbee · 18/05/2019 09:42

One white filling -52

But I'll probably end up losing my teeth due to receding gums. I keep ignoring advice to floss.

BeesKneesAreBetterThanMine · 18/05/2019 11:03
  1. My parents never supervised or insisted on tooth brushing nor did they teach us how to brush properly. I should only have 6, the dentist drillled the wrong tooth. When I said so, he drilled the one he should have done and then told my parents he had discovered there was decay in the second tooth as well. They didn't believe me when I said he'd said he'd made a mistake. My parents also said you only needed to floss if you had a crown.
I studied abroad at uni and the dentist I saw there was appalled!
BeesKneesAreBetterThanMine · 18/05/2019 11:05

I'm almost 40

LittleCandle · 18/05/2019 11:11

54, and loads. I have very soft teeth and it has only been in the last few years (literally 2 or 3) that I have not needed to have fillings replaced because the teeth around them have crumbled. The dentist places the improvement squarely on the toothpaste I started using then, which was new on the market. (Colgate Sensifoam if anyone is interested). I am also terrified of the dentist and always have appointments on my days off, as I am always quite shaky afterwards and when my teeth have been cleaned, my mouth is so sore and sensitive that I can barely speak, eat or drink. I've got a couple of crowns, too and have lost several teeth due to abscesses, accidents and for braces.

BunnyJumps · 18/05/2019 13:35

None. 36

Aragog · 18/05/2019 13:38
  1. Im 46y.
I did have some form of coating applied as a teen, many years back, and there are still aspects of that .
MirandaGoshawk · 18/05/2019 13:47

Dozens. 60.Seriously, loads. There are some mercury ones left but most are white now so you can't see them. No new ones for many years though (just replacements for the old ones where necessary)

I also think that it's largely the luck of the genes, but not having sugary stuff swilling around in your mouth all day is also a good idea, so I have given up sugar in tea & coffee.

Another point is to find a dentist who you are happy with - after having one who just stabbed the needle in my gum for the anaesthetic it was very nice to find someone who takes her time to put the needle in very gently. I have come to trust that she won't hurt me, so am not in the least bothered by going to see her.

Waytooearly · 18/05/2019 13:52

I have eight and I'm 48. I got them all before 18. None since and everything is fine now touch wood.

I wonder if dentists were more 'filling happy' back when I was growing up in the US. I never had any tooth pain and my mom never let us have sugary food or drinks. Just every so often the dentist said 'there's another cavity' and so I'd have a filling!

sparklefarts · 18/05/2019 13:53

None. Early 30s
