Would you leave your DP if you won the lottery?

DH is annoying me this week and we currently aren't talking to each other. We both think it is the other person's fault!

It got me thinking that if we won the lottery then I could totally see us buying our own properties and splitting which was a bit of a sad but probably realistic thought. Would you and your DP do the same?

We don't live together so if I won the lottery I would be buying a house nearer to him so we could live together.

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 17/05/2019 12:19

No way. I think it could bring it’s problems but we usually manage to work through stuff.

Ellabella989 · 17/05/2019 12:19

Not sure if we would split up as we get along very well 75% of the time (the remaining 25% I want to murder him). I would buy a very large house so we could have plenty of space away from each other though. I’d love my own livingroom and bedroom!

MissMalice · 17/05/2019 12:19

It wouldn’t have crossed my mind tbh. I might like a little summerhouse in the garden to myself but otherwise, no, I wish I could spend more time with my DH.

Is lack of money to leave the only reason you’re staying together?

klendraa · 17/05/2019 12:19

If you would do that, then ur relationship sucks and you should probably not be together if you wouldn’t be if you had money to not be together.

No, I’m happy with my relationship

Grumpbum123 · 17/05/2019 12:19

No way

Hedgehogblues · 17/05/2019 12:20

No. He's my favourite person. I love spending time with him and he's a fab dad

Fantasisa · 17/05/2019 12:20

I’d love my own livingroom and bedroom!

Oh me too! I would say we get along well most of the time but I could see us splitting in a pique of anger in the other proportion of time if we had the means.

No, if I wanted to leave him, I'd do it now. I guess I'm lucky I could afford to.

LinoleumBlownapart · 17/05/2019 12:21

No way and if I was only staying with him because of money, I'd start digging deep and addressing that issue ASAP.
Are you just having a bad patch or is this an on going thing?

Smolo · 17/05/2019 12:22

No! I can't think of anyone I'd like to share my winnings with more.

Fantasisa · 17/05/2019 12:22

Is lack of money to leave the only reason you’re staying together?

No, not at all really. I do love him and vice versa but I could just see us doing this for some reason as we can drive each other mad too. Or maybe we would have multiple properties and nip off for a break when he was driving me crazy.

adaline · 17/05/2019 12:25

No, but we'd probably buy another property so we each had our own space - kinda like what Helena and Tim Burton did.

JacquesHammer · 17/05/2019 12:26

Don’t have a partner Grin

I would give a sizeable sum to my ex-H though.

Persimmonn · 17/05/2019 12:28

That’s really sad. I’d like to think if I won the lottery it would be a chance for dh and me to spend more time together.

MorrisZapp · 17/05/2019 12:31

With respect, people saying you shouldn't stay with your DP 'for the money' imply some kind of gold digging situation.

DP and I earn the same as each other. We live in a flat in a good area where DS has brilliant friends.

Things would have to be absolutely terrible between us before we'd consider separating, as two shit flats in high crime areas really doesn't appeal.

DP doesn't give me money. But like most cohabiting people, we can afford much better accommodation together than apart.

The lottery could swing it either way, who knows. But in my pissed off moments I've bought lottery tickets so I could live alone.

fitzbilly · 17/05/2019 12:32

No way!!

I love my DP and want to spend at much time with him as possible.

LazyLizzy · 17/05/2019 12:35

No way, we'd have a ball.

Be no fun doing anything without my sidekickSmile

strawberrypenguin · 17/05/2019 12:35

Nope. It wouldn't even enter my mind!

youngfreeandnotsingle · 17/05/2019 12:37

No way!! I'd like to think the lottery would be a chance for us to spend more time together, he's my favourite person, my lobster if you're a friends fan . The thought wouldn't even cross my mind to leave him!

DMCWelshcakes · 17/05/2019 12:38

No, but I might get separate bathrooms. Grin

Fantasisa · 17/05/2019 12:40

@MorrisZapp

I think you have articulated it better than me. Also, a lot of millionaires don't stay with their partners so I can't be completely on my own.

Also perhaps some of our usual household arguments - chores etc would disappear if we had staff. But I'm sure we would find new things to argue about.

OP posts:
Sexnotgender · 17/05/2019 12:40

No. Definitely not. I’m with him because I love him. We’d spend our time travelling the world.

CitadelsofScience · 17/05/2019 12:41

God no, we've already chosen the massive house we'd buy where we could each have our own bedroom and cave Grin

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 17/05/2019 12:45

I'd happily have my DP live next door to me but not with me. I absolutely love my own space so it would just be me and my ds. I'd love my DP to see what's really involved in running a home.
