The Brexit Party-WTF?

ThunderOnlyHappens · 16/05/2019 17:38

I have met these twats campaigning in the street- took a lot of self control to tell them not to fuck off. I largely keep my remainer thoughts to myself. They have no arguments, they were standing around looking smug and were, unsurprisingly white men. How is that representative of modern Britain?

I've had more leaflets from political parties for these elections than any other. Even the Greens have sent me a leaflet, first time ever.

NameChangeNugget · 16/05/2019 18:02

Attach a rock to their leaflets and send it back to them, no longer at this address. They’ll love paying the postage.

ThunderOnlyHappens · 16/05/2019 18:30

@Gilbert1A political arguments, you twerp! They have little in the way of sensible things to say

A party with only one policy. Tells you all you need to know.

Channel 4 has a report about its funding sources at 7pm.

ThunderOnlyHappens · 16/05/2019 18:43

It's UKIP by another name, all far right and misguided ideas of 'sovereignty'. I did not need to spend time chatting with them for very long for fear of my blood pressure rising quickly! Nigel Farage is a twat of the highest order

Thunder How is a white man not representative of modern Britain? Would you like all white men to be wiped off the face of the earth? They do have a right to exist and (gasp) have political opinions that differ from yours!

scaryteacher · 16/05/2019 18:45

Nigel Farage is a twat of the highest order As is Jeremy Corbyn, yet I am still polite to Labour supporters. I even have some in the family.

Are you in all seriousness asking if white men are not representative of Britain today? Have you looked outside recently- Britain is multi-cultural, multi-faceted and all the more wonderful for it. It's not all Thanet out there you know? I'm not about to stand on the street and shout my views, and I will refrain from telling colleagues what I think of their arcane and hateful views, but they aren't standing on the street asking for opinion either.

@Gilbert1A because I have read about them. Unsurprisingly it has made the newsHmm

i dont know what great things people imagine will happen to them/this country after we brexit.

i ask them but they seem unable to say.

Outsomnia · 16/05/2019 19:10

I read somewhere that Brexit Party is not actually a political party but a company, and can therefore sidestep the rules regarding the disclosure of its funding.

Anyone else heard this?

If that is the case, how can they participate in elections, when all other parties must be transparent about funding? Bizarre if true, and I am open to correction.

TonTonMacoute · 16/05/2019 19:13

Funnily enough I bumped into a gaggle of them in Plymouth recently, and ended up having a chat with Richard Tice, the chairman. He seemed an interesting guy, wants the democratic vote of the people to be honoured (not just the referendum but the ensuing general election) and thinks that Britain will have fantastic trade and business if we are not tied into the protectionist, failing economic bloc that is the EU.

Interested to know what good arguments there are for Remaining, as I’ve never heard any apart from a Leavers are stupid and racist and it will be a disaster. OP seems to have opted for the stupid and racist trope.

PS funny how you never hear people complain about lack of diversity in other countries, just Britain.

ThunderOnlyHappens · 16/05/2019 19:14

It may surprise some to learn I am well mannered and polite, generally speaking! My rules of engagement are usually a) no politics b) no religion.

But yes, when Brexit is raised as an issue I will not engage except to explain I am a remainer but understand others have beliefs also.

Something about Farage, and his incitement of far-right based ideologies makes me irritated and a bit upset that people think it's okay to blame great chunks of society on what is wrong within their own paltry existences. I wasn't going to have a shouting match with someone on the street like a common fishwife, thank you very much!

Anywho, back to blaming me and calling me unhinges.....

people complain about lack of diversity in our representatives all over the world- especially in alabama this week.

you havent heard arguments for remain- you havent been listening to the business, scientific or academic community at all, have you Grin

as for great trade deals- these arent happening- can you explain how they will be better than the ones we have now - especially given that we will be desperate.

there are lots of brexiteers here- surely one of you can you explain how normal peoples lives are set to improve?
