Do you go to the cinema on your own?

Currently sitting in the cinema watching 'The Hustle', I love going on a weekday on my own! A few times I've actually had the cinema to myselfGrin

Does anyone else go on their own? My boyfriend thinks it's really odd.

For the record, I also eat at restaurants on my own too.

Yes.

It's normal to go on your own. It's not a team sport!

Some people have weird ideas about this, inc your BF! Grin

Nesssie · 15/05/2019 15:17

Yes! Love a middle of the day quiet cinema too.

NotMyPuppy · 15/05/2019 15:18

Yes I have been in my own when I’ve been working away from home as it’s something to do in the evening! I don’t eat in restaurants on my own, not that there’s anything wrong with it, I just don’t tend to.

saturdayhelpme · 15/05/2019 15:20

I'm glad there are fellow lone cinema visitors out there! Everyone I speak to about it always says 'oh you should have invited me' 'why go alone?' Etc.

I find it really relaxing Grin

Same as NotMyPuppy - eating in restaurants on my own I don't do (I just bolt my food and don't enjoy it) but cinema all the time, prefer it to going with anyone else to be honest. When at home I have a multiplex 2 mins away as well so far too easy.

EskeewdBeef · 15/05/2019 15:23

Yes, it's my favourite way to watch films.

purplecorkheart · 15/05/2019 15:32

I love going to the cinema on my day off during the afternoon.

amusedbush · 15/05/2019 15:33

I actually prefer going alone! If I go with DH he spends the whole time asking "who's that?", "what's he doing?", "is that her sister?" as if I fucking wrote and directed it. I know as much as you do, DH! Angry

everycowandagain · 15/05/2019 15:33

I took a day of holiday and went to see a film by myself. It was bliss!!

feemcgee · 15/05/2019 15:33

I do - no-one else wants to watch what I want to see, and I can completely suit myself with the time of day too!

ThankYouDebbie · 15/05/2019 15:34

Yes. I don't think twice about it nowadays.

Loveandstuff · 15/05/2019 15:35

I like the idea of it, I just don’t think I could do it. Wouldn’t like other people’s judgements but that’s probably my own issue!

Sunhill4 · 15/05/2019 15:51

I too prefer going alone. Why do you need anyone else to watch a film with? People get some funny ideas. ? I am happy in my own company and would do most things alone. Just aswell really as DH is quite happy sat at home doing sweet fa.

CaurnieBred · 15/05/2019 15:56

I do. Took myself to see The Hustle on Sunday as DH and DD were busy doing something else.

Get food brought to my seat (Everyman chain). Bliss

Bunnyhop1502 · 15/05/2019 16:12

I’d happily go to the cinema in my own! I go to the theatre and ballet alone all the time. It’s a welcome break from family life. Nothing better than a good play, a glass of wine in the interval and a good book on the way home. I feel very square writing that Grin

amusedbush · 15/05/2019 16:47

Bunnyhop1502

I went to the theatre alone for the first time at the weekend. I travelled from Glasgow to London by myself and saw the Harry Potter play because nobody would see it with me!

Bunnyhop1502 · 15/05/2019 16:53

@amusedbush Nobody?? That’s mad it’s brilliant. A long train journey alone sounds bliss.

Whitney168 · 15/05/2019 16:56

I happily go on my own. Went last night to see the National Theatre 'All My Sons' live event.

Quite happy to go with others too if there's something we want to see, but there's something freeing about not worrying whether someone else is enjoying something you fancied and suggested.

Whitney168 · 15/05/2019 16:57

(I saw a fair few lone cinema go-ers last night too.)

BogglesGoggles · 15/05/2019 16:57

I prefer going alone

Moody2010 · 15/05/2019 16:58

I often went to the cinema alone when I was a single parent, i enjoyed the peace and quiet and the luxury of not watching more peppa pig

NellieBee · 15/05/2019 17:03

Yes I do and love it! I've experienced people thinking I'm strange but I don't care. its just me and my favourite snacks!

thedevilinablackdress · 15/05/2019 17:05

You're sitting in the dark and can't really chat. It makes less sense to go with someone than alone if you look at it that way.

Yes!
And yes to restaurants too, and the theatre and concerts. I'm not missing out just because no one else wants to go.
