What is this song? Losing my mind ...

Male singer, slow grunge-y emo type balland, yearning vocals, slow build, melodic, quite up and down in the tones. Similar to Radiohead's Talk Show Host but less rock-y.
"I want to be ... la la la la la la" or similar vocals in the hook.
It may have been used in a recent TV programme or trailer, it's kind of spooky. Please can you help?!

Having seen your Moto Boy link which you said is very similar, the first thing I thought of was Lana Del Ray (female but very deep, husky voice)

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 15/06/2019 21:44

None of those, sorry. Thanks!

DD says Climbing up the Walls - Radiohead
All apologies - Nirvana

WeirdLegs · 15/06/2019 22:01

Suckonthatmaureen - my 2 favourite bands...

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 15/06/2019 22:35

I also wondered about something from Nirvana's Unplugged

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 15/06/2019 22:46

Nirvana - All Apologies - it's not that. sorry.
Radiohead - Climbing Up The Walls is really good and close, but lacks the "I want you ... I want yoo-o-oo" that I can hear in my head. It's not Talk Show Host.

It's not any Lana Del Ray that I've heard, sorry.

Is it running up that hill by Placebo? This is stressing me. I wish I had not clicked this thread. Confused

HerculePoirotsGreyCells · 16/06/2019 10:28

Is it this? Starts low but goes very high. From La Vie et Belle perfume ad a few years ago.

Something by Cigarettes after Sex?

Although they are a bit more ambient maybe.

miagerbies · 16/06/2019 10:59

I was gonna say running up that hill by placebo

Al203 · 16/06/2019 11:54

Something by Vancouver Sleep Clinic?

Bwekfusth · 16/06/2019 13:05

I reeeeally believe running up that hill could be the one. I keep coming back to see if i'm right but alas, OP has deserted. DESERTED. Look what you've done to me!

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 16/06/2019 17:45

Not Push It
Not Prefab Sprout
Not Running up that Hill
Not Cigarettes after Sex
Not Vancouver Sleep Clinic
Sorry!

And it's not CORSON - We'll come again, sorry.
And thank you! Didn't come back last night because stinking cold & tired.
I'm just weirdly happy I got the hum back. We will crack this.

Is it Alone by Richard Hawley?

Lemonlady22 · 16/06/2019 19:42

james arthur?

Lemonlady22 · 16/06/2019 19:44

empty space?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 16/06/2019 22:21

Richard Hawley - Alone - really, really good guess but it's not it.
James Arthur Empty Space - damn good, I mean I can hear how similar it is to my pitiful hum, and also to the tune in my head, but no.

My thoughts tonight are it's probably a bit older than I first thought. Perhaps not John Lennon/Stones "old", but then again why not. 70% sure it's british. 90% sure male white voice. A ballad, a rock/grunge ballad. Something wiley and desperate about the way he sings. Very pretty melody, can't not be well known. But the exact words elude me. Well, otherwise it'd be a doddle right? Confused

Btw - changing from humming to la-ing in your recording was really distracting and broke the thread for me. If you could re-record doing one all the way through that might help us.

cherrytree63 · 17/06/2019 08:19

I recognise the tune, I think it's something my daughter sings at open mics, but I can't put a name to it!
If I can work out how to send her the link I'll see if she knows!

ChristineBaskets · 17/06/2019 10:45

I think it might be something by Elliott Smith but not sure what. But I am currently obsessed with ES so may be biased.
