A man just walked into my house...

I was upstairs, and went to open the window when I see a man walking out of my house (out of my front garden). I watched him from the window and he didn't go into anyone else's house, and left our street.

I thought it was really odd as he wasn't a Royal Mail postman or anything, but I went downstairs to check whether he had put anything through our letterbox. Nothing there. I opened the door to see if anything he had put in the letterbox had fallen out- again, nothing.

Can anyone think of a logical explanation (I have anxiety) or is this really dodgy?

Actually in to your house or just the garden area?

Squiff70 · 11/05/2019 12:01

Was he IN your house or just the garden? Is anything missing?

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 11/05/2019 12:02

He used to know the previous occupant, went to knock then realised a lot of years have gone by & they may not want to see him/recognise him if, indeed, they still there?

JaneEyre07 · 11/05/2019 12:02

Was he inside OP, or just walking up your path?

Passthecherrycoke · 11/05/2019 12:02

I’m
Confused- was he inside your house or just in your front garden? If he wasn’t just walking out your garden surely he could’ve just knocked on your door for all sorts of reasons? Door to door selling, local politician, all sorts

dosydrawers · 11/05/2019 12:02

Neighbour, did you hear a knock on the door.

insancerre · 11/05/2019 12:03

In your house or in your garden?

MothertotheLordsofmisrule · 11/05/2019 12:03

Can your front door actually be opened from outside without a key?

Clutterbugsmum · 11/05/2019 12:04

Burglary would be my guess.

Purse cards, money in purse
House keys car keys - all sets

luciapenguin · 11/05/2019 12:05

He was in my front garden. Front door was locked.

We have lived here for coming up to 50 years and he was a young man in his 20s/30s so no, not looking for the previous occupant.

He didn't knock on my door or ring the bell.

So someone just came to your door? I would forget about it OP no one here knows why but there are hundreds of reasonable explanations

FiremanKing · 11/05/2019 12:07

Mormon?

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 11/05/2019 12:07

I think you're getting worked up over nothing. He wasn't in your house he came in your garden and probably knocked on your door then left again. I really don't see why you have given this anymore thought

FiremanKing · 11/05/2019 12:08

Double glazing/conservatories?

luciapenguin · 11/05/2019 12:08

Why would someone come inside my front garden, not knock/ring the bell, not leave anything, not go to anyone else's house on our street? There is no reasonable explanation.

Estate agent who suddenly realised he had the wrong address?

luciapenguin · 11/05/2019 12:09

He didn't knock on my door or ring the doorbell and in all honesty, he looked really dodgy too but I didn't want to say that initially due to being judgmental.

Passthecherrycoke · 11/05/2019 12:09

They realised they’d gone to the wrong house?

BlueCornishPixie · 11/05/2019 12:09

Maybe he dropped something/something blew out of his hand into your garden? Like letter?

Or maybe he was lost and thought he wanted your house? And then got to the door and realised it's the wrong house? I have definitely done this. Absent mindedly walked up the drive to a friend's house only to look up and realise it's not my friends house!

luciapenguin · 11/05/2019 12:09

Definitely not an estate agent by the way he was dressed

MissMary0fSweden · 11/05/2019 12:09

Realised he'd got the wrong street?

FiremanKing · 11/05/2019 12:09

How do you know he didn’t call at any other house on your street today or previously?

Or are you Mrs Mangel?

MissMary0fSweden · 11/05/2019 12:10

I'd guess by the thread title that you're a teeny bit prone to the dramatic Grin

luciapenguin · 11/05/2019 12:11

Surely you can't get an entire STREET wrong if you've got the wrong address. And how would he know the street name by just coming inside my front garden?
