A man just walked into my house...

I was upstairs, and went to open the window when I see a man walking out of my house (out of my front garden). I watched him from the window and he didn't go into anyone else's house, and left our street.

I thought it was really odd as he wasn't a Royal Mail postman or anything, but I went downstairs to check whether he had put anything through our letterbox. Nothing there. I opened the door to see if anything he had put in the letterbox had fallen out- again, nothing.

Can anyone think of a logical explanation (I have anxiety) or is this really dodgy?

likes your garden and wanted to check it out; lost a pet; thought he saw something and went to see what it was; he was lost; the list goes on.

There is nothing in our front garden. No greenery, no plants, nothing.

Lost a pet?! So he would just come in our front garden to find his lost pet?

Opportunistic thieves are not uncommon. I witnessed two(separate incidents) over the years in my previous street who were trying door handles and car doors. Neither had a hoodie.

Creatureofthenight · 11/05/2019 12:21

Burglaries are a massive problem where I live, so if this had been my house I would assume it was someone having a look to see if were worth doing over.

RattyTat · 11/05/2019 12:21

In broad daylight too.

luciapenguin · 11/05/2019 12:21

*What was he wearing?

Many homes have cctv so a ne’er do well would most likely be wearing a hoody or face covering. Did he have a large hold-all?*

Completely black clothing, don't think he had a face covering

Check if your doorbell is working.

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 11/05/2019 12:22

Report it then if you think it's dodgy, if it's connected to the previous stuff you mention you might be able to give the police a description.

PutyourtoponTrevor · 11/05/2019 12:22

He might have knocked and you didn't hear?

BettysLeftTentacle · 11/05/2019 12:22

Is this the MN equivalent of those posts on village FB groups ‘warning’ everyone of a man wearing black walking down the street or.... SHOCK..... a white van driving slowly?

THERES A CAT IN MY GARDEN IT LOOKS LOST ShockShock

This is what I assumed.

I saw someone burgle a car in broad daylight yesterday!

Sounds like it was the Milk Tray man.

BettysLeftTentacle · 11/05/2019 12:24

Completely black clothing

Boom! Man wearing black in broad daylight. Definitely a criminal.

FiremanKing · 11/05/2019 12:24

Let me lighten up your thread -

A man just walked into my house...

OUCH!

Grin
luciapenguin · 11/05/2019 12:25

Is there a way of reporting this, without calling 101, just to see if there have been any other reports about him?

Are you sure there wasn't an eye mask?

FiremanKing · 11/05/2019 12:26

Completely black clothing?

Maybe it was the Milk Tray Man?

luciapenguin · 11/05/2019 12:26

In my area, yes!

Ok, fine, he was casing your house. Now what? You can report this to the police; they will know if other similar incidents have been reported. The best you can do is make sure your home is the most prominently secure one on the street. Windows and doors locked; alarm system installed and working. The police in our area are happy to advise on steps to take.

FiremanKing · 11/05/2019 12:27

Is this him?

BettysLeftTentacle · 11/05/2019 12:27

So call the police if your house gets robbed?! You can’t possibly tell who this guy is either way. It’s a waste of paranoid energy.

theworldistoosmall · 11/05/2019 12:28

Omg all in black?
Fuck so every time I've been a bit ditzy someone would have thought I was up to no good because I wear black??

rwalker · 11/05/2019 12:28

Probably got the wrong house forget it.

Passthecherrycoke · 11/05/2019 12:28

Just call the police, if there is anyway it’ll put your mind at rest. You can email them. It’ll take 2 seconds, nothing will happen but at least you’ll feel better

Creatureofthenight · 11/05/2019 12:29

What ltk said. Can’t do much else I’m afraid.

Purplecatshopaholic · 11/05/2019 12:30

Sounds dodgy to me. We had a spate recently of people walking around the neighbourhood trying front doors in the hope that one was unlocked, then they went to the hall table, took the keys to the car on the driveway and nicked it. Friend of mine had her hand bag stolen this way. Keep your doors and gate locked and dont worry!
