Found out today my DD has worked out who I am

Light hearted thread. But was a little surprised tonight when in the middle of a family party my DS noticed my DD was on Mumsnet. She said. “Oh yes I go on it a lot it helps with work (she works with children). Sometimes I read mums threads on here about us”. I was surprised as had no idea she knew I posted on here, Let alone had recognised herself in one of my posts. Now I understand why people name change. Hello DD if your reading this.Smile.

My daughter has recognised me too- and I her a couple of times.
We don't stalk each other- I name change as required!Wink

Jenasaurus · 10/05/2019 23:20

Yes maybe I need to name change too. I forget this is a public forum at times. Never mind I don’t think I’ve said anything too awful Smile

My DDs know my name. I'm conscious of that when I post.

My DDs know that I'm a breastfeeding counsellor and one of them sent me a series of PMs, posing ever more complicated scenarios and asking for advice.

I recognised her syntax, though.

threedeepatthebar · 10/05/2019 23:39

I wonder how often this happens. All the crazy situations people post about that would be so recognisable to anyone else who features in the story.

AmeriAnn · 10/05/2019 23:42

Hello Mum. lol

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 10/05/2019 23:57

My daughter is on here. I know who she is because she told me but I would never have worked it out otherwise.

GreyBirds · 11/05/2019 00:00

Oh god Shock I probably name change every 20 posts or so but I worry that someone could recognise me from specific information I share!

ReanimatedSGB · 11/05/2019 00:01

My DS' dad signed up for a short while about 10 years ago and I immediately namechanged. (He's not abusive or anything, I just didn't want hiim spotting me.)

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 11/05/2019 00:08

My sister is on here- I know she searches my name and pretends she doesn’t Grin

I bear that in mind before I post.

Beeziekn33ze · 11/05/2019 00:08

Not just DD but at least one DGS is on here somewhere, oh dear!

horizontalis · 11/05/2019 00:13

My dd knows my name on another forum, but not this one - I namechange quite often on here anyway.

MyShinyWhiteTeeth · 11/05/2019 00:47

My sister is on here. Hi sissy!

IcaMorgan · 11/05/2019 01:30

I’ve recognised 2 people on here. One by a pic of her wedding dress as I was at her wedding and the other was the daughter of a friend that I recognised due her mum saying something to me and her mentioning it on here. Neither time did I let them know I knew who they were

idbenappingbutthedogbarked · 11/05/2019 01:43

I suspect my sil is on here and would recognise me, even through name changes. She's very discreet though and would never say anything.

kayvade · 11/05/2019 06:25

I name change once a week for thIs reaosn.

kingseven · 11/05/2019 06:33

Slightly off topic but I didn't feel it was worthy of a thread.

If you name change does that make your previous name 'up for grabs?'

TheSassyAssassin · 11/05/2019 06:45

No king, you keep your old names and you can go back to using them anytime you want. If you have a previous name you can just overtype kingseven with it on an individual post and you will post under that username. But your default name will be your current one Smile

Oh...and hello DSis Grin and several RL friends Wink

barryfromclareisfit · 11/05/2019 06:46

It doesn’t matter what name I choose, dd can find me here by my writing style. She also knows all my attitudes, opinions and cultural references, so any anonymity I might have had is fucked from the start. I am also outed to at least one former colleague, whose son is the same age as my dgd, and a trouble-causer from another forum, who, having lost the pleasure of goading me there, tries it here.

HappinessIsKey · 11/05/2019 06:51

I have always wondered this! Has anybody actually worked out who someone is from a post! I just thought we were all a bit paranoid! Obviously not 🙈
(Busy thinking of a new name)

LesserBohemian · 11/05/2019 07:00

I’ve recognised a friend’s posts through 3 or 4 name changes!

It sounds unlikely, but I just happened to be on when she’s posted about something specific she’d been talking to me about, and the post pops up in Active threads. This has happened multiple times over the years, which is weird because I wasn’t even on here that much!

BookWitch · 11/05/2019 07:04

I recognised my sister on here, I think she has namechanged now though as she hasn't posted since January under that name.

Diddleysquat · 11/05/2019 07:07

It seems strange to me that in a forum of thousands of active daily users someone would recognise me. I do know that my sis and Several of my Sisters in law are are on here. I have never spotted them though. It amuses me that when asked they all brush off MN as Something they really don’t use very often. Just occasionally it answers a pressing question but they can usually find the answer by using the search feature, never post anything, etc. They are probably some of the most active posters Grin (for all I’d know).
A few years ago I had a bit of a wobble as I suspected one of the most well known MNers might have been my mum, I had to search her posting history quite carefully to reassure myself it wasn’t. Even now I wonder though as there are some big similarities. She has used the same user name for years.

AuntieStella · 11/05/2019 07:07

I've worked out a couple of people

One has other left or name-changed, other is still, around, but I suspect she uses more than one name (or really only ever does post on a certain subject)

(No, I have never mentioned in RL that I worked it out)

No idea if anyone has worked me out. No-one's ever said. But use in case

kingseven · 11/05/2019 07:10

@TheSassyAssassin thank you for clearing that up Smile
