Light hearted thread. But was a little surprised tonight when in the middle of a family party my DS noticed my DD was on Mumsnet. She said. “Oh yes I go on it a lot it helps with work (she works with children). Sometimes I read mums threads on here about us”. I was surprised as had no idea she knew I posted on here, Let alone had recognised herself in one of my posts. Now I understand why people name change. Hello DD if your reading this.Smile.

One of my daughter's teachers is on here, I only know because they named the school they worked at indirectly but I don't look for their posts or try and work out which teacher it is, it's none of my business what they post.

I know another person on here because they posted for advice and sent me the same email asking for advice but I don't search for their posts either but if I see them I tend to make a point of replying. I wonder if they have worked out who I am but if I ask they will know that I know who they are. It's the online equivalent of the elephant in the room

On another forum, many years ago, I made a remark in passing about my daughter's school. Another poster knew from previous posts of mine roughly where I lived. He lived in a neighbouring district of London, as we'd previously established. Not so very surprising that he worked out what school I was talking about, then, but what came as a bit of a stomach drop moment was when he said 'Oh, is that X school? My wife works there, she thinks she knows you'. She did indeed, as I worked there too, part-time, and our paths had crossed a few times. Fortunately I had never said anything much about the school and nothing at all about the staff, but it was a useful warning that those of us with flypaper memories can easily build up quite a detailed picture of someone who posts regularly on a forum and doesn't namechange.

Last night I fell asleep and woke up to something scary (but that’s another thread. Actually it really is ). I screamed and my DD came to see that I was OK. Then she went back to bed. 5 mins later she whataspped me a copy of this thread with a “hello” comment so she was reading it even as I wrote it last night lol. Better be careful what I say
