I just stole a bag!

Shock Mother's Day at the weekend so DM and MIL are coming for lunch. Picked up two gift bags in the shop as I figure they both have to receive the same gift from us. Scanned and put in the shopping bag, got home and unpacked and realised I have three. Cost £2.65. Do I: Take one back on Tuesday? Go to the shelf and scan one but don't take it on Tuesday? Keep my stolen goods on the basis I spend £250+ there each week and give 'the stolen one' as a gift this weekend ?

£2.65 for a gaudy paper bag! You were the one being robbed.Grin

QuestionableMouse · 10/05/2019 11:32

It was an accident. Not worth the stress of taking it back. I did it once with a birthday card. Got home and there were two stuck together with static.

If it makes you feel better buy one and then leave it behind to even things out.

Bluesheep8 · 10/05/2019 11:33

Mothers day?

FiremanKing · 10/05/2019 11:34

Bluesheep8

Mother’s Day in America.

Mayalready · 10/05/2019 11:35

Yabu for doing your dh's shopping...

Thiswayorthatway · 10/05/2019 11:35

Take it back otherwise it's theft

x2boys · 10/05/2019 11:36

I assume not in the UK @Bluesheep8?

Crunchymum · 10/05/2019 11:36

£250 a week? Shock

£250 a week? Shock

I know! I have that expression on my face when I see all the posts complaining how "expensive" things are in the UK

May I'm hoping DH has a brilliant idea of what to put in the bag Grin

Mother’s Day in Australia too...

Ninkaninus · 10/05/2019 11:49

Yes I think the universe has arranged for you to have a lovely mother’s day gift bag too, and maybe your DH needs a little hint that there better be something extra nice in there! I mean the universe has spoken, after all!

SparkleGem · 10/05/2019 11:51

I'm with @FiremanKing £2.65 Shock

Tinkobell · 10/05/2019 11:51

No you didn't steal...though it makes for an attention grabbing headline. Let it go.

spanishwife · 10/05/2019 11:51

I have a rule that I don't stress over anything less than £5.

Not a big deal, move on.

TheThievingDIL · 10/05/2019 11:51

oooooo I like that idea!
Unfortunately, if last year is anything to go by he doesn't need to organise anything because it should come from the DC and they've made me something at school anyway. DC1 has promised me breakfast in bed (if DH will make and carry the tea)

Hang it on the bedpost for the Mothers Day fairy to fill Grin but tell everyone first

£250/week on shopping Shock Sad

skybluee · 10/05/2019 12:02

I'd go back and scan one but not take it. That way you've paid for one the that you did take.

IncrediblySadToo · 10/05/2019 12:02

I hope you apply that to Fathers Day too.

Do nothing, it was an accident & only a couple of quid.

Asta19 · 10/05/2019 12:07

I think it's the UK that's out of step with everyone else re Mother's Day. I know it's Mothers Day in Japan and some European countries too.

It was an accident. Hardly crime of the century. I wouldn't think any more about it.

ginghamtablecloths · 10/05/2019 12:08

It was an accident and it's not as though it costs a huge amount of money. Keep it. Shops sometimes make a mistake which is in their favour and many shoppers don't check their receipts as has been discussed here.

SoupDragon · 10/05/2019 12:20

No we aren't - isn't it that we don't have Mothers Day, it's Mothering Sunday which is actually something else? Everyone else is wrong or just celebrating a made up holiday I think.

MatildaTheCat · 10/05/2019 12:23

I once stole a handbag by mistake. Was browsing in shop A and thinking about buying it so hung it over my arm. Forgot about it and tootled off to shop B where I discovered it Shock.

I was absolutely paranoid that I was being followed and about to be arrested and hurried back to confess my crime. The shop assistant looked at me very oddly and clear thought I was entirely mad. Grin

Forget it. They’ve obviously been robbing you for years if you spend that much.

Asta19 · 10/05/2019 12:24

Oh, I don't know, maybe.
