If you're mid-late forties / early fifties, do you have much joint pain?

I'm just wondering how common this is, it's often mentioned as an issue when peri/menopausal. I'm late 40s and my mum had rheumatoid arthritis, so I'm maybe more concerned about joint pain.

Yes and sometimes I just cry because it’s just miserable. My GP thinks it’s stress and lack of sleep...I am bored of talking to her because she is stupid.

MadAboutWands · 07/05/2019 21:30

Nope not in my joints depsite being very overweight.

I do have pain though, achyness in my muscles associated with ME.

Ohyesiam · 07/05/2019 21:31

53
My menopause symptoms come in cycles, and I’ve had slight joint pain when it’s bad, but more I’m so exhausted that everything hurts.
I don’t know if it’s all improved with my new exercise regime, it’ll might just be waiting in the wings.

Yes but I do have Lupus. Most women I work with seem to have a lot of aches and pains.

AnyFucker · 07/05/2019 21:37

I am early 50's and peri menopausal

I have chronic severe shoulder pain (rotator cuff), dodgy knees on and off and I am currently nursing a sore hip after doing a bit of housework

It's really annoying because I am generally fit as a flea, not overweight and live fairly heathily. Until the last couple of years I never had an ache or a twinge.

I am told all these pains go away when you get to the other side (of the menopause). I live in hope.

lljkk · 07/05/2019 21:40

I was going to say no.. .but then I remembered my shoulders. Since last 6 yrs. I almost only notice in bed when I want to sleep on my side (can't any more).

  • I've had tendonitis everywhere but that was almost entirely before age 30. Had backpain & lots of other health problems in my 20s but ok or better now (early 50s).

49, regular gym goer. My knees crunch when I walk up the stairs but no pain. I get some muscular DOMS pain if I do any new exercise or something particularly intense, but no joint pain.

EvaHarknessRose · 07/05/2019 21:45

Knee elbows and wrists very achey for about two years, fine now (HRT, yoga, swimming?) but I do have a few shoulder issues currently, hurts when I sleep.

No idea if it helps but I am also using up a variety of supplements I have bought previously and not used Grin including magnesium spray.

megletthesecond · 07/05/2019 21:46

Yes.
My ankles don't work going downstairs first thing, my fingers are agony in cold weather and my neck seems to be seizing up.
I'm active and run and go to HIIT class but can't fit in any yoga at the moment. It's the first thing I'll do when my kids are old enough to be left alone.

LadyWithLapdog · 07/05/2019 21:48

Knee pain from a running injury and back pain every now and again. I take daily multivitamins.

Jungfraujoch · 07/05/2019 21:54

Another generally stiff and achy one here and a crunchy knee. I walk a fair bit with the dog but that’s it at the moment.

Thinking yoga or Pilates to get me more flexible?

TheSultanofPingu · 07/05/2019 21:58

No. I'm 50 next month and so far have been very fortunate.
I have a physical job so it's just as well really. Would hate to do the job with aches and pains.

sackrifice · 07/05/2019 22:00

Aches and pains all the bloody day.

I even got painful fingers harvesting radishes the other day for fucks sake.

Bluntness100 · 07/05/2019 22:03

No, I'm fifty and no joint pain. But ,,,,my ankles feel stiff in the morning sometimes 🤔

pallisers · 07/05/2019 22:06

My knees used to ache going downstairs in the morning. I'm fairly fit and exercise a lot. On my sister's recommendation I now take 2 tablets of glucosamamine chondroitin every morning. Literally within a week the ache was gone. My knees feel the way they used to.

Talking about it at the hairdressers with similar age women one of them said her GP had told her to try it - if it works, it works within 2 weeks and is amazing.

TheNavigator · 07/05/2019 22:07

Early 50s and on HRT. No joint pain. I am a healthy weight and take regular exercise and try to eat well (most of the time). I feel fit and strong, I just find I don't always sleep as soundly. Pre HRT I was a heap of sweaty rage, but still no joint pain.

SolitudeAtAltitude · 07/05/2019 22:12

Hips, knees and back, age 48

It loosens up when I walk/move so not sure it is joints or muscular

I walk every day with the dog, which is the best thing, it seems, after that I am fine

LizzieSiddal · 07/05/2019 22:13

I’m early 50s and whilst I don’t have aches I do creak a bit, especially when I’m exercising, which I do 4 times a week.
Actually I have the beginning of bunions and they can really hurt! Dispute never wearing high heels.

SwedishEdith · 07/05/2019 22:15

Crunchy knees. They've always been a problem but more issues now - catching, locking, can't pivot, get up from a squat etc. Just the joint wearing out.

AnyFucker · 07/05/2019 22:16

My feet are a nice shape still. Small mercies Smile

stucknoue · 07/05/2019 22:16

Only after a lot of exercise eg all day hill walking. I can feel my joints a bit but not painful otherwise

Jungfraujoch · 07/05/2019 22:18

Pallisers can I ask what strength glucosamamine chondroitin you take please?

Chewbecca · 07/05/2019 22:18

Yes, I have lots of osteo arthritis and most of my joints hurt.

TroysMammy · 07/05/2019 22:20

Not really at 51. I do get twinges in one knee that comes and goes usually if I put a tiny bit of weight on. I don't need to take regular pain killers and the only exercise I do is walk with a shopping trolley in front of me Grin

happyhillock · 07/05/2019 22:22

Yes in my 50's have joint pain in my fingers, knee's and lower back, when i stand up my knee's make a noise like your crunching up a bag of crisp's, joint pain is worse in the winter.
