Strange Vodafone transaction on DH statement

Hmmm6386 · 07/05/2019 13:02

Myself and my husband share a few bank accounts that we both have access to online. There is one account just for direct debits and have noticed there is a £26 transaction every month come out since December. I barely look at the accounts but noticed it last week and mentioned it to him, he said he never noticed even though he checks his banking daily.

I have asked him time and time again to call them as if it’s a mistake that’s over £150 refund we are entitled to! He finally called today whilst I was out, he said Vodafone couldn’t track it down and my DH said he would cancel the direct debit and see what happens from there.

Why would you not tell Vodafone you are expecting a refund since they can’t even tell you what you are paying £26 a month for!!! I’m annoyed at DH, he’s making it seem like no big deal.

Has anyone been overcharged by Vodafone before?

Has he ever been with Vodaphone?

Is this a contract that hasn't fully closed down?

Nyon · 07/05/2019 13:06

Possibly sounds a little more like he has a phone hidden from you OP. If he checks his account regularly then he knows the payment is coming out.

He finally called today whilst I was out

Fits into the narrative.

FiremanKing · 07/05/2019 13:07

Has he got a second phone?

Stuckandsad · 07/05/2019 13:07

Secret phone? Check his credit report- it might show there?

calpop · 07/05/2019 13:07

sounds very suspect. Would he have been dumb enough to get a second phone on Vodafone and use your joint account?

If not, why isnt he demanding his (and your) money back from vodaphone? And how could vodaphone not be able to see what that billing is for? That's BS I am afraid.

Have you tried calling the number?

justthecat · 07/05/2019 13:08

Check his call history if you can see if he actually called them

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 07/05/2019 13:08

Secret phone? Check his credit report- it might show there?

Jesus Christ! credit reports are private!

englishdictionary · 07/05/2019 13:09

Has he signed up to a recurring payment though his mobile on PlayStation or similar?

Odd it would show as a separate payment though, anything added to your bill usually comes under the same payment. It’s more likely o be another device.

FiremanKing · 07/05/2019 13:11

Let’s look at the evidence

He knows you don’t church the accounts often

Despite him checking daily he claims not to have noticed this direct debit.

He allegedly called Vodaphone but only when you were out.

Do you think op that is possible he could be using a second phone for untoward purposes?

Stuckandsad · 07/05/2019 13:11

As someone who had been through it, it's better to dig about rather than stick your head in the sand. Is his phone the type that you can take the sim out? Could be a sim only plan.

Littleduckeggblue · 07/05/2019 13:16

Secret phone

Hmmm6386 · 07/05/2019 13:16

Yes he has been with Vodafone but cancelled the contract in the middle of last year and this new direct debit started in December. The only thing he pays through Vodafone is a small internet package thing which is £13 a month (works out of the country so takes that with him) which he clarified on the fone with Vodafone and they said the £26 is not connected to that, and they have no idea where the £26 is coming from!

I know this is terrible but we have had trust issues in the past, he hasn’t physically cheated but mentally and also paid for services online (webcamming) so I check his emails regularly. There is no emails from Vodafone that would point to the £26 a month either.

I have absolutely no idea if he has a secret phone, and I wouldn’t know where to look unfortunately. He’s extremely OCD and organised with all of his things so he’s not the type to be clumsy and leave it somewhere I could find it.

Exactly.. I really can’t see Vodafone telling him that to cancel the direct debit and see what happens!

No he has an iPhone which he pays for through Apple which I also see comes out of the account.. and then there is an amount for O2 who the phone network is through... then there is the unexplained £26 a month Vodafone

The new direct debit started in December. How were things in December - any other changes taking place?

AsleepAllDay · 07/05/2019 13:21

Could it be a membership to an adult site that is paid through his mobile plan?

Aquamarine1029 · 07/05/2019 13:24

Sorry op, but I think he's lying. He's very organised, OCD, checks his account every day but didn't notice this charge for nearly six months? Then he calls when you're out? Ok.

Not buying it.

MrsRubyMonday · 07/05/2019 13:29

It could be that the old contract was never cancelled properly, my wife had money taken on a monthly basis for about six months after she first cancelled her contract, each month we would ring, get it refunded and cancel again, they would tell us it was processed, then the payment would be taken again. Took us ages to get it sorted, Vodafone had essentially written over her old contract with the new one on the same account but missed some step in cancelling the payment so they couldn't see the payment details for the old contract, only her new one, but the old one was still active. They ended up deleting her account and setting it up from scratch in the end. I would never go with them again, a friend had similar issues.

happyhillock · 07/05/2019 13:32

Sorry but he's hiding a second phone

MIA12 · 07/05/2019 13:35

I also think he has a second phone. Ask him to call again when you’re at home - I bet he refuses.

Skiptheskip · 07/05/2019 13:35

Given your update, he’s got a second phone.

fedup21 · 07/05/2019 13:35

Sounds like he’s pretending not to know what it is, but in actual fact, he does know.

pushingdaisies · 07/05/2019 13:43

My Vodafone bill for our Internet is £26 a month. Not very helpful but it might not be a phone, could be something else.

pushingdaisies · 07/05/2019 13:45

Also, would be a bit daft to set up the direct debit for a secret phone from a joint account Hmm

AginNAgin · 07/05/2019 13:48

Sounds like a second phone contract - or a phone contract he's paying for someone else.

Hmmm6386 · 07/05/2019 13:49

Things we’re fine in December. The direct debit first came out on the 4th so I’m not sure if that’s when the contract would have been taken out or if it was taken out a few weeks before?

Never even thought of an adult site being paid through his mobile plan. £26 is abit cheap for that to be honest. The money he blew on that years ago was absolutely ridiculous.

He is going out shortly so I will be having a quick look around the house
