question for those that stripwash instead of shower

our monthly water bills going up! so decided to stripwash instead of shower daily, but I use the shower for hair wash days (2- 3 times a week). Well just used the sink, feel lovely and clean. But I did seem to get a bit of water on the floor!

So tell me stripwashers how do ya do it!

I have an old kim and Aggie book that has a step by step how to sink wash routine. Lol

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 10/05/2019 17:10

Completely missing the point here but I've never understood how anyone can have shower in 2 minutes! By the time I've either washed or soaked my hair, washed my face and body it's 10 minutes on hair soaking day, longer if it's being washed and longer still if I shave my legs!

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 10/05/2019 20:52

@FormerlyFrikadela01 NO !! The people i nurse are no more likely to need to stripwash than the general population .

I am not going to justify myself, or out myself .

YesQueen · 10/05/2019 20:56

@PinkSparklyPussyCat I don't wash my hair of shave legs in shower. So it's literally in, lather, rinse, out

SoyDora · 10/05/2019 21:13

PinkSparklyPussyCat what is hair soaking? I either wash it, or don’t get it wet at all.
Without a hair wash a shower takes 2 mins. In, lather up, wash body, rinse and get out.
With a hair wash it takes around 7 mins.

I was feeling quite low until I read this thread which has had me in hysterics!

Actually just had a shower, the only reason I couldn't have one this morning is that I was feeling unwell.
I like to shower daily, i don't feel clean otherwise.
I know I'm depressed when I stop having the motivation to shower daily.

As a healthcare assistant I often have to give the more immobile patients bed baths & strip washes as we don't have disabled bathrooms on our ward.

What I have noticed is:
The use of antiperspirant deodorant is shockingly rare!
Many people don't use more than ONE flannel per wash (I try to provide an extra wash cloth for their bits)!
Lots of people have very flaky skin & never use body lotion or know what it is! Especially men.
Most people can't be bothered with having their (sorry usually smelly) feet washed.

Interestingly Muslim patients don't like strip washes, they have to wash with running water or they feel unclean, so I sit them near a sink & keep the tap running & keep rinsing their wash cloths.

isabellerossignol · 10/05/2019 21:56

I had a quick strip wash this morning, because I didn't want the steam from the shower to make my hair go fuzzy. But I had two showers yesterday.

So in Mumsnet terms that makes me simultaneously an obsessive over washer and a malodorous soap dodger.

Ivegotthree · 10/05/2019 22:15

Genuine question to everyone who does this - is it real poverty that makes you do it?

I just think there'd be so many things I would forsake first before doing this revolting practice.

As loads of PPs have said, this must be why some ppl stink on eg public transport.

I am gobsmacked by this.

Ivegotthree · 10/05/2019 22:18

People who smell don't realise they smell.

isabellerossignol · 10/05/2019 22:25

I think people who smell are well aware that they're not all that fresh. They just don't care. A lot of people see keeping clean as being a bit beneath them. And find it hilarious to be dirty. And lots of other people are depressed and just can't bring themselves to care about it.

ReganSomerset · 10/05/2019 22:41

@Ivegotthree

Nah, when I've done it it's been due lack of shower facilities. It's not revolting and is not why people stink on public transport, but I refuse to type all the reasoning out again. Bored now! RTFT and post again if you have a question or comment not already discussed.

paffuto · 10/05/2019 22:51

Only pampered spoilt humans shower every day! Absolutely no need.

RiversDisguise · 11/05/2019 06:23

You would have to be pretty sedentary not to need to.

SoyDora · 11/05/2019 07:06

paffuto I exercise every day, working up a sweat, so I think there is a need.

RiversDisguise · 11/05/2019 07:25

Yep, so do most health-conscious people who are able to.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 11/05/2019 08:02

SoyDora I don’t shampoo my hair every day so on the days I don’t I just soak it through in the shower before using products. I can’t just leave it as I’ve got curly hair that just looks a state if I don’t wet it down. I tried a plant spray but it didn’t get it wet enough

SoyDora · 11/05/2019 08:07

Ah ok, makes sense!

oldishladyinashoebox · 12/05/2019 00:40

As a female I just cannot imagine not washing my hootenanny and armpits everyday as we sweat when asleep and also surely you'd wash your bits everyday on your monthly cycle?

Oliversmumsarmy · 12/05/2019 00:51

I remember my gran doing a strip wash in the 60s.

No bathroom or inside toilet weekly baths in a tin bath shared with 8 adults and 1 other child as well as me.

It was gross then and even grosser now we have showers.

I don’t care how much it costs I need that shower everyday.

I would rather cut down on time length length than not showbring and doing a strip wash.

LoafofSellotape · 12/05/2019 00:52

No one is saying they don't wash, this thread is about different ways to wash Confused

OldAndWornOut · 12/05/2019 00:54

I haven't seen anyone on the whole thread say that they don't wash..

oldishladyinashoebox · 12/05/2019 01:24

@OldAndWornOut @LoafofSellotape a few have said they don't wash 🧼 or 🚿 daily. That's quite bad. Personally, I shower each morning using feminine wash for my bits, facial wash for my face (obvs!) and a bar of soap 🧼 for elsewhere.

oldishladyinashoebox · 12/05/2019 01:25

It is nice to feel fresh and clean after a shower.

OldAndWornOut · 12/05/2019 01:28

Now I'm going to have to look back all through the thread to see who's right Grin

VoteJadot · 12/05/2019 08:28

You only shower once a day? You probably smell then, you just can't smell it on yourself. You're not properly clean unless you wear a specially adapted portable shower cabinet with holes for your arms, legs and head eight hours a day.
