question for those that stripwash instead of shower

eggyfart · 05/05/2019 19:27

our monthly water bills going up! so decided to stripwash instead of shower daily, but I use the shower for hair wash days (2- 3 times a week). Well just used the sink, feel lovely and clean. But I did seem to get a bit of water on the floor!

So tell me stripwashers how do ya do it!

No, it really doesn’t.

People’s standards of personal hygiene are so depressingly low...

ReganSomerset · 09/05/2019 08:49

*day to day level dirt

I wish MN had an edit button.

ReganSomerset · 09/05/2019 08:51

Yes, it really does.

People's levels of hysteria around this topic are depressingly high...

We aren’t living in the Amazon. We live in enclosed spaces where we are tightly packed in with other humans. Their smell makes me gag.

'Too much hot water can actually be bad for our bodies, according to experts in hair and skin care. We asked several dermatologists to weigh in on the definitive way to take a shower.

  1. DON'T SHOWER TOO OFTEN
How often you should shower depends on your activity level — our experts say there's no hard-and-fast rule. But if you're not active, you can cut back to a few times a week. Just don't cut back so much that you smell, or risk letting skin infections take hold.'
isabellerossignol · 09/05/2019 08:57

A flannel and soapy water is scrubbing your skin

ReganSomerset · 09/05/2019 08:58

No, we aren't living in the amazon, but no one here is advocating not washing at all or never showering. I'm simply pointing out that the level of pearl clutching here is ridiculous as showering every day is neither necessary or healthy.

Washing the vital areas daily and following up with a good deodorant is sufficient to eliminate odours for the vast majority of people.

MariaNovella · 09/05/2019 09:00

Far too many people are unaware of their own body odour.

HappydaysArehere · 09/05/2019 09:03

Our Aquilisha shower is linked to our Worcester Bosch boiler and needs a little while to heat up as when you put it on its stone cold. I have a shower about two or three times a week and strip wash between. I stand in a soapy bowl of hot water and. work down. I rarely use a flannel. I use aqueous cream in place of soap and my hands instead of flannels. I am standing on a bathmat. Splashes are wipedup in a second.

ReganSomerset · 09/05/2019 09:16

too many people are unaware of their own body odour.

Maybe they are aware and just don't care what you think, like the people who eat smelly food on trains?

Or maybe their deodorant has failed? That's happened to me even after showering that morning. Some people naturally sweat more than others- I can only use the 48hr stick deodorants, the rest have me stinking a bit by mid-afternoon, no matter how I cleaned myself that morning.

Or maybe they don't use deodorant for cultural or medical reasons?

It's impossible to know. You should get off your high horse.

Also, as an aside, I have a very keen sense of smell and yet very rarely come into contact with others who smell in day to day life. Where are you finding all these people?

Chartreuser · 09/05/2019 09:40

My shower is fed by hot and cold taps and so it takes ages to come to the correct temp, and woe betide anyone who uses staple/flushes the loo/puts washing machine or dishwasher on. I shower every other day when I also wanted my hair and on the in between day so wash using a flannel and soap in the manner described here.

I have found that I don't smell, especially since realising that walking around in my bra for 20 minutes until my deodorant is fully dry makes all the difference re smelling (I know, I know).

Due to our shower set up that saves loads of water, yes we can afford the monetary cost but it's a waste of water in terms of resources

FormerlyFrikadela01 · 09/05/2019 09:56

We're the same. DP doesn't mind a cold shower so he gets in whilst it's warming up then I get in after but it takes a good 2 minutes before it's even close to warm enough so all that water would be wasted.

Like I said way upthread, I'm insanely jealous of all these people who can turn their shower on and its hot within seconds.

YesQueen · 09/05/2019 10:25

Not all bacteria needs shifting from my skin, I'm not licking it Confused
I had a 2 min shower this morning which was a scrub with soap of armpits and feet and a rinse and I'm perfectly clean

Chartreuser · 09/05/2019 10:28

We do that too, DH gets it to temp, then me, then if the DCs need a shower they all troop in one my one.

I gave up my pretensions of style long ago and have microfibre loop pedestal and bath mats, by the time all of us are showered the floor is so wet could practically bathe in it

longearedbat · 09/05/2019 10:29

In the past week I have used buses, planes and trains (in fact been loads of places with loads of people around me, like many people do every day). I can honestly say that never once did I get a whiff of any odour off anyone.
@MariaNovella you sound a bit obsessive/over preoccupied about smells. In fact, I find it unusual to come across someone with a genuine whiff of bo these days. There are smells I find more repulsive, like people who insist on eating stinky fast food on a train (which I think a pp mentioned), but that's okay because they probably scrubbed their bodies thoroughly with soap and hot water earlier.

OldAndWornOut · 09/05/2019 10:30

Surely we're supposed to have (good) bacteria on our skins?

agirlhasnonameX · 09/05/2019 10:44

This thread is hilarious it's cheered up my morning 😂 none of you would survive a pre 20th Century Britain, you'd all be hiding indoors clutching your pearls.

As long as you are still showering at least every couple of days and are washing properly if using the sink, there is nothing wrong and you really shouldn't smell, if you do a trip to the GP probably wouldn't do any harm.

Not all old/disabled people who can't access a shower smell and to say so is ridiculous IMO.

kbPOW · 09/05/2019 17:08

Newsflash - people who don't wash much, don't think they stink! Shocker.

VoteJadot · 09/05/2019 17:39

Fucksake. People - children - are dying every day all over the world for want of clean water and some of you are having conniption fits at the thought of not having a shower twice a day. give your heads a wobble and check your fucking privilege.

FiremanKing · 09/05/2019 17:53

@VoteJadot

Lol

FiremanKing · 09/05/2019 17:55

I knew that eventually a virtue signaller would have to poke their nose in on this thread. Hmm

ReganSomerset · 09/05/2019 17:57

VoteJadot makes a very valid point.

@kbPOW

No one here is advocating not washing every day.

VoteJadot · 09/05/2019 18:15

Rather a virtue signaller than a selfish twat. And Hmm right back at you.

UnPocoLoco2 · 09/05/2019 18:51

It is nice to feel clean in the morning after a warm shower. I use a nice bar of soap 🧼. Shower gels don't really last long and have a lot of plastic packaging. I don't sweat lots but still like a daily shower.

Schnitzelvonkrumb · 09/05/2019 22:51

Poor OP asked how to stop water going over the bathroom floor and has got 12 pages of debate whether you do/don't stink if you dont shower and scrub with or without a flannel twice a day, and whether a scratch and sniff test can determine what sort of washing method your fellow commuter has used!
Maybe there should be badges, similar to the baby on board ones, that say "strip wash stinker" i might get some made to ensure i get the carriage to myself! 😂
