question for those that stripwash instead of shower

our monthly water bills going up! so decided to stripwash instead of shower daily, but I use the shower for hair wash days (2- 3 times a week). Well just used the sink, feel lovely and clean. But I did seem to get a bit of water on the floor!

So tell me stripwashers how do ya do it!

I stand on a bathmat and use a facecloth, working from the top down

eggyfart · 05/05/2019 19:31

I missed the mat lol!

gonna take practise isn`t it. I do feel all virtuous in saving water though. And clean.

another daft question; do you slap on the soapy lather on dry skin or rinse it first to wet it?

Stand on the towel you're going to use for drying off. Don't have a soaking wet flannel, wring it out so it's not dripping.

I recommend having loads of flannels, so you can add a pile to the wash and still have plenty to get through. They aren't expensive to stock up on.

eggyfart · 05/05/2019 19:36

flannel was soppingly wet.

Why not just have really quick showers? You can wash all the important areas in under two minutes.

YesQueen · 05/05/2019 19:41

Stand in shower
Water on then off
Soap up
Water on
Done

Wavingwhiledrowning · 05/05/2019 19:44

Surely there are easier ways to save money then not actually washing properly? As Sakura7 said - just have a super quick shower if you're not washing your hair. I'm amazed that not washing appears to be an actual thing people can give advice on!

Fatted · 05/05/2019 19:46

Surely if you're not washing your hair you can just be in the shower for just a minute? Shower on, lather up and rinse then out? Much less faffing about than a stand up wash by the sink.

Duster12 · 05/05/2019 19:46

I can assure you, a strip wash is washing properly.

Sycamoretrees · 05/05/2019 19:50

Have you looked at how much of your bill is standing charge and how much is water usage? You might not save as much money as you are expecting.

eggyfart · 05/05/2019 19:50

it is a proper wash. showers are a new thing.... before plumbing stripwashing was all people did.

YesQueen · 05/05/2019 19:52

Or use a washing up bowl and strip wash but standing in the bath or shower to save getting water everywhere

oneforthepain · 05/05/2019 19:56

Out of curiosity, has anyone compared the water they catch from showering for two mins without washing hair, to that used for a strip wash? Wondering how significant the difference would be.

CoolCarrie · 05/05/2019 19:57

And people used to throw their shit and wee out of the windows into the street before toilets were invented, but I am sure you won’t want to shit in a bucket OP!
We are having a drought at the moment while I live and we have timed showers, 2 mins and out, and use a plastic basin to catch the water to use on the garden or to flush the toilet

Sakura7 · 05/05/2019 19:58

Showers are hardly new, they've been around for decades and are very much the norm now.

SoftSheen · 05/05/2019 20:05

Easier to have an 'army shower' i.e. Turn on shower briefly to get wet, then turn off whilst you soap your body, then turn shower back on to rinse. Or just learn to shower really quickly!

MrsMaisel · 05/05/2019 20:05

No wonder people smell. This is a thing? Save money elsewhere and use a shower

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/05/2019 20:07

To the poster who said turn the water on and off don't you have to wait for it to heat up again? If I turn it off it then goes ice cold and boiling before going back to temperature!

SaltSpoon · 05/05/2019 20:08

You would use the same amount of water with a 2 min shower.

missmouse101 · 05/05/2019 20:10

Can't stand the idea of a strip wash! Yuk! Even the name really annoys me. A quick shower can't use much water, surely?

ElloBrian · 05/05/2019 20:11

If you want to see how much water you’re using in a shower, put the plug into the bath. You’ll be surprised by how efficient a quick shower is. And yes to save water get soaped while it’s not running.

windysowindy · 05/05/2019 20:13

The OP is asking for advice from people who strip wash.
If you don't, and you are here to say she should shower, you are not being helpful.

Stand on a mat and practice leaning on the sink for the upper areas 😁

Moominfan · 05/05/2019 20:13

Op treat yourself use the shower. Nothing virtuous in suffering

mydogisthebest · 05/05/2019 20:15

I shower every morning and wash my hair too. Admittedly my hair is very short but I am literally in the shower for a couple of minutes. I have put a plug in to see how much water I use and it is very little.
