What age did you get your first grey hair?

I found one this morning. I thought I'd be at least thirty before one appeared, but I'm only 26! When did others first get one?

I found the first at 19 after all night panic essay writing (coincidence obviously but memorable), but 25 years later I just have a scattering - I get my hair highlighted lighter rather than dying it which makes them disappear.

BoomZahramay · 05/05/2019 18:36

A couple at 24, far more at 31, but still not that many really.

DH hasn't got any on his head yet. His first greys are coming in other places Grin

  1. My dad has only just started to go grey at 75.

Since I was 17. Bad luck here

  1. I'm 27 now and I still only have the one. I pluck it when I see it Smile

  1. My sister, my mum and maternal grandma all had them in their teens too.
Pushing30 · 05/05/2019 18:50

Interesting that people with darker hair are finding them earlier. I'm mixed race, so my hair is almost black.

21

LucilleBluth · 05/05/2019 18:53

Last week. 38.

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/05/2019 19:07

It's possible those of us with dark hair just notice them sooner. I spotted mine in the rear view mirror of my car aged 30, I'm very dark haired so it was very noticeable. I pluck them out as they are individuals, no clusters yet.

WildFlower2019 · 05/05/2019 19:13

Late twenties

ooooohbetty · 05/05/2019 19:14

In my 20's. I wasn't that bothered though. Completely white now. Hereditary.

sometimesalways · 05/05/2019 19:31

I have dark brown hair and in early 40s and still no grey. It's not a rule that dark hair grey early!

I think it's genetic, my grandmother from my dad's side died about aged 85 with almost all her dark brown lustrous hair, only some white/grey. I hope I got her genes!

PissOffPeppa · 05/05/2019 19:39

I was about 26 or 27

I’m 30 now and have about 15 of them

Pushing30 · 05/05/2019 20:02

Ok, more likely they are just more noticeable.
I've heard it's genetic. Wow 85 with not much grey!

Op I have black hair and hate the sight of grey hairs. I dye mine every 3 weeks and use A black hair spray in between. My hair grows so so fast too. Most of my friends are blonde and don't have any, but I reckon they must have a few but they just can't see them as they blend in.

MyPatronusIsAnOrca · 05/05/2019 20:18

I was born with 3 grey hairs - never stood a chance!

Now mid 30s , I’m 50% grey

Hotdogsfloatinginthebath · 05/05/2019 20:20

Probably about 26... helpfully pointed out to me by a good friend in front of a lot of our work colleagues...and then mentioned repeatedly until I got it dyed 🙄

Nnnnnineteen · 05/05/2019 20:25

About 41. Don't have lots now but they grow at right angles to my head which is a bit crap.

PinguForPresident · 05/05/2019 20:26

I was 21. I'm blonde, so they weren't bothersome.

BadmintonBadass · 05/05/2019 20:28

I’m 34 and have started getting the odd white FACIAL HAIR. What the actual fuck Blush

SundayMondayHappydays · 05/05/2019 20:29

When I got married

BentNeckLady · 05/05/2019 20:32

I was 38 and I found 2 and pulled them out. My dads still got v dark hair in his 60’s so I’m hoping I take after him.

MulticolourMophead · 05/05/2019 20:48

I was around 20. I spent years dyeing them brown, but gave up a couple of years ago and now have it all platinum blonde. Just because I like it, not because I'm trying to hide it. Sometimes I leave it grey. Just because.

Previously, I'd have my ex on the one hand trying to convince to go au naturelle, while on the other hand being nasty about my roots showing.

icannotremember · 05/05/2019 20:55

I was 33. A week before my third child was born. I was very upset indeed! All my grays seem to come in curlier than my other hair too, and very silvery shiny. Pretty, but they really stand out.
