Just seen the venus shaving advert. A woman was shaving her whole arm?! Why?!

OP posts:
Cottonwoolmouth · 04/05/2019 19:15

Are you suggesting it is abnormal

I don’t think it should be shown on tv no. It’s just another stick to beat girls with.

Sunshine1235 · 04/05/2019 19:17

I have hairy arms and it crossed my mind once when I was about 14 and some boys in my class made fun of me. But I’m glad I didn’t and it’s never given me a problem since

Nottsangel2015 · 04/05/2019 19:18

Yes I shave mine, thought I was in the minority Smile

EntirelyAnonymised · 04/05/2019 19:21

I don’t shave my arms and I don’t know anyone else who does, male or female. I don’t think it’s a particularly mainstream practice, OP.

FookMeFookYou · 04/05/2019 19:23

I've waxed my arms for about 20 years. Wouldn't shave them because of the itchy regrowth.

Fucktifikeepmyrealname · 04/05/2019 19:25

I refuse to as a political statement. I hate the tyranny of other people's opinions on my male pattern hirsutism. I conform on a whole pile of things but this is the hill I die on. I will have hairy forearms and I will wear short sleeves and fuck anyone who comments.

If you want to depilate, for whatever reason (personal preference, conformism etc ), knock yourself out, go for it ( who needs my permission anyway?!), but I'm out.

PurpleCrowbar · 04/05/2019 19:25

I'm in the ME where it definitely is a thing.

I'm considered quite unkempt by local friends because I CBA (am white, with quite furry arms but it's fine, mousy hair & doesn't bother me).

Although most people I know use veet - I'd think shaving would leave you with bristly stubble, judging by my legs which have the same sort of hair & which I do shave. If i don't run the razor over them daily in the shower they're noticeably prickly!

JustBeenNosey · 04/05/2019 19:25

I used to shave my arms when I was younger because people at school used to take the piss outta me.. I don't care now, I have hairy arms, so what 🤷🏼‍♀️😂

PlinkPlink · 04/05/2019 19:34

I used to wax mine but since having DS I haven't had time.

I have always been incredibly paranoid about my arm hair which unfortunately, I guess is due to some conditioning when I was a teen?

But I do prefer to have hairless arms. Shaving is a bad idea for me. Hairs grow fast on me so within an hour I've got a 5 o clock shadow on my arms. Not a good look 🤣

Pinkywoo · 04/05/2019 19:39

The woman in the advert has a full sleeve tattoo though, hair shows up much more on a tattoo and can hide the details.

RevealTheLegend · 04/05/2019 19:58

I think it is more of a thing for those of us with tattoos. Didn’t pay £££ to,have the detail obscured with fuzz.

Don’t give a Fuck about non tattooed hairy bits.

Mabellavender · 04/05/2019 20:00

I wax mine Smile

OhTheRoses · 04/05/2019 20:03

I was never very hairy and am quite fair. When ds was born all the hair on my arms disappeared and my legs are sparse. Think my eyebrows suffered too.

I kind of miss it.

ArabellaDoreenFig · 04/05/2019 20:06

Agreed.

Putthatlampshadeonyourhead · 04/05/2019 20:07

I dont see the issue with on TV.

That's probably because most of the people I know who shave their arms are men. They are either avid gym goers and shave to show the muscle definition, or they have a full sleeve that looks better with no hair on the arm or they are both of these body do their legs and bodies too. Not just for competition.

It's becoming more and more common for men to remove body hair

Answeringonlyyesorno · 04/05/2019 20:07

I've done it for years on my dark hairy area as I prefer how they look without hair. Totally normal in my book.

MenuPlant · 04/05/2019 20:11

Yes it is the next thing that is coming to mainstream, and agree it shouldn't be presented as a standard thing women girls should do on telly. First pits then legs then pubes to all pubes then arms where next.

Yes done women have always removed hair in various places, becoming the standard is not good.

First came to my attention when this beautiful woman got 'shamed' on Instagram after a post had her blonde arm hair showing _ this is first google link it was in mainstream news though.

WobniarRewolf · 04/05/2019 20:16

I shave mine because I hate how hairy they are when I don't. It takes less than ten seconds every morning in the shower. I don't think I've met anyone else who does, though.

happymummy12345 · 04/05/2019 20:16

I've done it for years

vinoandbrie · 04/05/2019 20:17

Have done it since I was a young teen!

Bundlebuns · 04/05/2019 20:18

My eyes are also opened! I had no idea it was a thing. I have visible arm hair, but as no one has ever commented I've truly never thought about it. I imagine though if I had thick dark hair, or if I'd been teased about it then I might choose to shave. Each to their own... whatever people are happy doing.

catwoman486838 · 04/05/2019 20:24

Yes I've done mine since secondary school (18 years ago). The hairs were dark and very noticeable I remember getting a few nasty remarks. So swiftly went home and shaved them Shock

kiki22 · 04/05/2019 20:25

I'm light skinned with dark long arm hair I hate how it looks so I shave it I've done so since I was a teen. I do my arms and under arms way more often than my legs.

SleepingSloth · 04/05/2019 20:26

Confused Lots of men and women shave their arms because they have tattoos and think it looks better without hairs. It's personal choice.

Shelbybear · 04/05/2019 20:36

Most people don't have dark hairs on their arms so I don't understand why anyone with blonde arm hair would shave it off unless it was very thick.

I've got friends that shave their toes, tummy area all sorts 😳 suppose everyone is hairy in different places 🤷🏻‍♀️
