Red tent - absolute nightmare?

SanFranBear · 03/05/2019 19:38

I need a new tent for me and my two DC. They're both growing and I'd like to get one which will give them their own bedrooms and I've found a perfect one, I think..

Except it is red and the pictures make the inside look really red. My DS has always been an early riser and I don't fancy any more 6am starts as he's finally a lot better.

Does anyone know if it would make the inside ridiculously bright in the early morning? It is double skinned and our current one isn't exactly dark and does get bright.. I'm just wondering if the red light in particular would mean an early start?

I thought this was going to be about the book Red Tenf. Smile

Flippidyflap · 03/05/2019 19:57

No idea but we have one with blackout bedrooms and I’d never consider anything else now. No more early wake ups with the sunrise!

SanFranBear · 03/05/2019 20:15

Blackout bedrooms sound awesome... I also love the sound of the airpole tents. But my budget is also quite limited - hence camping in the first place Grin

The book The Red Tent is awesome.... I reread it every few years

As for your question, dunno...maybe it'll be cosy?

StarbucksSmarterSister · 03/05/2019 20:21

I thought this was going to be about the book

Me too! Love that book.

Dowser · 03/05/2019 21:06

Me too 😂

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/05/2019 21:10

We have about 1000000 tents in our house because dh is always buying them, and my favourite one is red.
Haven't read the book though.

Rangeloaf · 03/05/2019 21:11

I love the idea that the possibility of buying a red tent is your idea of a ‘complete nightmare’!

Iggly · 03/05/2019 21:11

When camping it’s nicer to share a room. I would get something with two bedrooms and a middle sharing area - lots of options.

Zogthebiggestdragon · 03/05/2019 21:19

This might not work for your tent but I got the Outwell children's lining and it worked well - there might be an option for you? This is the one I have : shop.highbridgecaravans.co.uk/2009-outwell-ohio-xl-kids-room/p46145.

RubberTreePlant · 03/05/2019 21:20

Oh, I was expecting something menstruation-related Grin

PrincessWatermelon · 03/05/2019 21:21

The Red Tent is such a beautiful book!

nordstrom · 03/05/2019 21:25

Haha I clicked on this expecting it to be about the (amazingly good) book!

endofthelinefinally · 03/05/2019 21:27

Is the book the basis for the film of the same title?

InceyWinceyette · 03/05/2019 21:29

Oooh, link to the red tent.

Countess, what red tent does your DH have?

I want this one (scroll down to the splendid red Cabanon) www.ukcampsite.co.uk/chatter/display_topic_threads.asp?ForumID=32&TopicID=311860&PagePosition=1&ThreadPage=337&ReturnPage=Search&search=&searchIn=

OP - you know there is a Camping board on MN? With much discussion of tents?

Tidypidy · 03/05/2019 21:30

We don't have blackout blinds at home or in our tent and our kids wake reliably between 6:30 and 7 everyday unless they're especially tired when they might lie in until 8! They're used to going to bed in the light in summer.

Mother87 · 03/05/2019 21:30

I was thinking menstruation-ritual thingy tooGrin

SanFranBear · 03/05/2019 23:01

Haha - looks like I'm missing out on a good book! And I need to improve my grammar as the title was a question really...

It's just DS who wakes up early - DD, like me, can sleep for Britain - and I just want us all to be able to enjoy our rare breaks rather than being exhausted having woken ridiculously early.

Sounds like it's probably a non-event anyway if those of you with red tents don't have any issues.

Thanks for all your replies!

I was SOOO hoping that this was a post bitching about your Red Tent-mates!

SanFranBear · 04/05/2019 09:26

So, I've bought the book (less than £2 on Ebay) so at least I've made one purchasing decision! Grin

My DH bought has blackout tent at Decathlon. It was apparently pretty cheap.

BringOnTheScience · 04/05/2019 09:44

Eye masks

Combined with ear plugs, they have transformed camping for me, even more than the self-inflating thick mat!

austenozzy · 04/05/2019 09:49

Not sure of the size of your tent, but we use a small 2 man festival pop up tent as DD’s sleeping pod within our bell tent. Works a charm, it’s dark and gives a little bit of extra sound proofing. and she has a space to keep all her crap, I mean toys and books!

SanFranBear · 04/05/2019 11:37

Thanks so much for this - I like the idea of a tent within a tent but my current, 4 man doesn't really have the space for that. Also, it really is getting old and worn and whilst it might get us through this summer - I like the idea of a nice new one (our old one has done us 9 years though which isn't bad for a cheap deal from Halfords!)

Hmmmm. One of those 'wish I had bags of cash so if it doesn't work out, not the end of the world' moments.

Might get some eye masks regardless though!

No idea about your red tent but the book is great!
