I have eaten no more than 1600 calories each day

... for three weeks. Averaged 1450. Logged it, weighed and scanned packets. Did it properly. I’m pretty active, 5ft 9. Mainly sensible food choices, with some crap within the calories some days. I’ve done yoga everyday, a walk of some length. Swum and down a long bike ride each week once.

I started at 75.5, today I weighed... in 75.7.

I have to eat less than 1200 to lose weight. Cutting carbs helps a lot.

kateandme · 02/05/2019 09:35

watching what some people are doing to lose weight and how unhappy its making them is so sad.
when will people ever be happy with who they are.or eat intuitively and happily

StarJasmine · 02/05/2019 09:36

You’re in a healthy BMI range anyway, so moderate exercise & calorie intake will probably just maintain that.

I'm 5ft 3 and cycle every day, 1600 is about my maintenance calorie level.

I would need to drop to 1000-1200 to see any significant weight loss.

Prequelle · 02/05/2019 09:42

If I did that I would end up on my 600lb life.

I won't be happy being obese.

YemenRoadYemen · 02/05/2019 09:47

Exactly @Prequelle !!

My God, if I ate 'intuitively', I'd be the size of a bus. 😂

I am greedy, and every day is a stand off with that greed because I do not want to be the size of a bus.

Prequelle · 02/05/2019 09:51

I've been in the obese category too and it isn't fun!

Now I'm pregnant I'm being extra careful with my diet and people comment on how it's the only time I can eat what I want etc etc... no thanks coz I will literally put on about ten stone I have a massive appetite ha

desperatesux · 02/05/2019 09:51

Don't eat before lunch. I just eat between 1 and 7 sometimes 8 if I am going out and I can eat what I want and stay thin (52KG). I'm in my forties too 5'7
I don't restrict what I eat but while you won't gain weight doing this you won't lose a huge amount unless you drop the calories and I find really for quick weightloss it has to be 1200 a day, no more
1400 will do it too but it will be much slower and you will need to workout then too
For weightloss, not toning etc fast walking is the best. An hour a day , min 7 KM per hour.

Teddybear45 · 02/05/2019 09:54

I don’t understand the calories here. I have pcos so low metabolism, am 5 7, and 75kg but can still lose weight on 1800-2000 cals net because I’m active. A lot of you are just blindly following mfp

Teddybear45 · 02/05/2019 09:55

If you want to tone then you up calories as you want to build muscle

ExplodingCarrots · 02/05/2019 10:04

My fitness pal sets your calories way too low. Find Team RH on Facebook. They're doing it right. Calories in vs calories out. Also, weigh yourself everyday and take a weekly average as your weight can fluctuate a lot Day to day. You could have weighed on a 'bad' day. I'm 197lbs and losing weight eating 2200 calories a day.

Forkin · 02/05/2019 10:17

I’m 36, it’s pretty normal exercise levels plus the yoga in addition. I’d say I was eating around 1800-1900 anyway. The app I used advised 1600 for losing 0.5kg weekly.

I’m totally confident the calories are accurate, I home cook everything.

Tbf my belly is far flatter, I’m wearing different clothes as the bloat is gone. I was eating soooooo much bread and cutting that right down and adding more veg has changing my digestion. I’m more regular and my belly is not tender. I’ve also near stopped drinking, and my skin is clearer. So not zero benefit, but I’d like to stop the slow creep up that been going on!

Just me?

Re the waking an hour a day- easily. Or scooting. It’s be walked 90 min today (split into 45/45) and yesterday totalled 270min! Not really brisk, but decent A to B speed. I scoot with kids, cycle. I’d say I’m pretty fit, I can pull up/ push up and do a lengthy bus dash without a break in breath. I can cycle 8-9 miles quite routinely on hilly ground with a double trailer. I’ve got a lot of power and strength, I’m a bulky shape. I just like to not have a gut with it and for at least a good chunk of my summer wardrobe!

Oh, and last Sunday I did 11 miles walking for the hell of it whilst a child had a sorts event. I’m honestly not loafing around...

1600 calories sounds like a lot a day for a diet. Try £1200

adaline · 02/05/2019 16:25

What time in your cycle is it?

I always put on weight before my period - it's just bloating and it drops off as soon as my period starts.

UB40fan · 03/05/2019 01:01

I am almost 55, an age when it can be difficult to lose weight. I have lost 4.3kg in one week. I did this by practically cutting out all potatoe, pasta, rice and bread.
I am not following any diet or counting calories. I even had wine and some crisps and some shortbread at different times of the week. I know that if I tried to follow a diet or count calories or deprive myself when I felt like a treat that I would then fail.
I do realise that a week is not very long but I have more energy and feel better and therefore more motivated to continue.

This is all that matters. Why are you bothered about what your relationship to the ground is?

ImpracticalCape · 03/05/2019 02:05

I'm 45. I eat between 800 and a 1000 calories a day. I do Bikram Yoga, I run and I swim. I lose about 2lbs a week.
1600 is pretty high.

GodolphianArabian · 03/05/2019 04:06

Your metabolism will have adjusted to your new calorie intake. The body is much more sophisticated than we give it credit for. To lose weight long term you need to maintain the metabolism. I would look at low carbohydrate diets and intermittent fasting.

Catchingbentcoppers · 03/05/2019 05:33

800 and a 1000

I wouldn't have enough energy to exercise on this.

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 03/05/2019 05:39

First thing to do is bin the scales, they are making you unhappy. Doing more exercise and eating less can only be a positive, you will feel better and lose inches, what you weigh doesn’t matter.

MaybeitsMaybelline · 03/05/2019 05:49

This isn’t right surely, you must be really disappointed.

I have done MFP since end of February and lost about 16 pounds. I walk at least 10,500 steps and five miles a day. I eat around 1400 calories but I am only five foot four, and I’m in my fifties.

I did plateau for a few weeks but I was only eating 1260, so I upped the calorie intake and had a couple of days eating around 3000 calories, which were celebrations with friends, and then the weight moved again.

I am not a big carb eater either, and when I do it’s usually brown rice rather than bread or pasta. I do have a bar of chocolate every day though around 220 calories.

iMatter · 03/05/2019 06:19

Give it time.

I know it's incredibly frustrating but it takes me 6 weeks to see any change on the scales. I find it hard to keep going when I'm trying so hard but the scales don't reflect it.

Are your clothes looser? Do you feel better?

If you can possibly stick with it I'm sure it'll kick in.
