I have eaten no more than 1600 calories each day

... for three weeks. Averaged 1450. Logged it, weighed and scanned packets. Did it properly. I’m pretty active, 5ft 9. Mainly sensible food choices, with some crap within the calories some days. I’ve done yoga everyday, a walk of some length. Swum and down a long bike ride each week once.

I started at 75.5, today I weighed... in 75.7.

Another person saying check where you are in your cycle. Also increasing activity always makes me retain a bit more water too. Give it a couple more weeks and see what happens.

RhubarbIsEvil · 03/05/2019 06:44

I once gave up alcohol, sugar and junk food for 6 weeks and didn’t lose a pound. Then I went on a week long city break holiday, did loads of walking, ate mainly vegetarian restaurant food (only to keep up my veggie quota) and lost 10lbs in a week. I think it helped that I hate flying and can’t eat any food on a plane so I also did 2x 10 hour fasts in that week.

I’ve very surprisingly kept the weight off. I think it was a combination of 6 weeks of prep and one week of 30k steps per day plus very restricted portion sizes and no snacking in between but LOTS of water instead.

I wish I could replicate that holiday! Grin

Op can you do no/veeeery low carb for a fe weeks to give you a boost? Iv just done 2weeks no carb no sugar and lost 11lbs. Switching now to low cal as no carbs is not a long term healthy solution

You are a healthy weight. Confused

Forkin · 03/05/2019 08:19

I’ve had success with low carb, but I really wanted a long term new way of eating that halted the slow creep up. I weigh the same as before I gave birth to my last two children, and it just creeps up slowly.

My belly is flatter, but from the point of looking pregnant. I still have a apron of fat I’d like to go, back handles etc. I carry fat in a horribly apple way and I’m very high risk for type 2 diabetes (mum has it had a normal weight and I’ve had gestational diabetes) so I really want to shift some very unhealthy torso fat. My arms and legs are slim, thigh my arms are getting bulky. I have a small frame for my height, and at 60 kg I’m not boney even. For me, but not others, I am a weight that is sub-optimal for my long term health even though it’s just healthy on the bmi thing.

Where does each weigh-in fall in your menstrual cycle? (Assuming you have one)

Forkin · 03/05/2019 08:23

I’m about a week/ week and a half post period

Have you thought about the Blood Sugar Diet by Dr Michael Moseley. This could help you especially as you mention being at risk of diabetes?

amusedbush · 03/05/2019 09:51

1600 calories sounds like a lot a day for a diet.

Well, that's a bullshit blanket statement. The calories required to lose weight completely depend on a person's sex, age, height, weight, activity level. I'm 28, 5' 5, pretty sedentary and losing weight steadily on 1600kcal because I'm fat

As I get smaller I'll need to reduce that.

DontTouchMyCurls · 03/05/2019 10:06

Just me?

No. As stated by the several people that replied before...Hmm

palahvah · 03/05/2019 10:11
  1. well done for sticking to it - it sounds as though you are already seeing results and stopping the 'slow creep'!
  2. it's only been 3 weeks, give it time - you want it to stay off.
  3. scales are the worst way of measuring progress. After 3 months of low carb and 6 hours hiit and weights per week I was only 1 kilo lighter but had reduced my body fat by 30% and dropped 1-2 dress sizes.
BogglesGoggles · 03/05/2019 10:15

You sound like you might have a metabolic disorder.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 03/05/2019 10:22

I'm 39 and 5ft 10,prefer to be a 10 but currently a 12.To lose a lb a week I need to drop to 1200 a day no cheating ☹

JMAngel1 · 03/05/2019 10:44

Could you be building more muscle?
I have got leaner over the last 2 months but actually weigh around 5 pounds more. Think it's resistance and weight lifting that have upped my weight but I look so much thinner in my clothes. So get a tape measure out and ditch the scales.

whitehalleve · 03/05/2019 10:53

1600 is more than my maintenance calories and I'm active too. So I'm not surprised. It is annoying though. I need to be below 1000 to lose weight.

pigear · 03/05/2019 13:28

I have read that fat cells take time to go, when they are empty of fat, they store water for a time in case they will be needed again and it can take time before they give up and go. So I think if you carry on, you may see a loss a little further on.

Also look at fasting, I know it sounds awful and is easy to discount but I have been reading about it and it makes sense. Search for Dr Jason Fung.

Sexykitten2005 · 03/05/2019 13:46

Did you weigh daily? I can fluctuate 2lbs between days even if diet and exercise are perfect. I work on averages now and the scales are dropping. 1800 calories a day and one weights session and 10000 steps a day. Up your exercise rather than drop your calories or you’ll just mess up your metabolism. Maybe some weights at home or more vigorous cardio
