Milk delivered in glass bottles. Anyone do this?

Quite fancy doing this. Very much like the idea of buying milk from small local business rather than ASDA. Also for the novelty factor if I’m honest.

Questions: does it taste any different? Better/worse? What happens in warm weather if you are out all day?

Answers/opinions/experiences welcome!

We have had milk delivered since we moved here over a decade ago. Love it.
Milk tastes better. Bit creamier. Doesn’t go off as delivered more frequently than me doing a weekly shop. Great service. Less to carry home from supermarket. Less plastic.
Milk delivered before our breakfast. So it’s not sitting out all day in the heat of summer.

We have recently started. It’s delivered at 6am three days a week and I love it! Bit more expensive than the supermarket but love not having tons of plastic bottles

We have milk delivered. We use milk and more so not a small company but that's who the local milkman works for. He drops off at about 6am. I like the fact that I'm not adding to the piles of plastic! I wash my bottles and leave them out for him to collect.

Same here. Mine is delivered 3 times a week. So easy! Wash the old bottles out and leave them out for my milkman. I also do order other stuff from him here and there. Great service!

Yeah I was raging the other week. Bought four pints of semi and two pints of whole milk from Asda (online shop) to last me the week, and it all went off within three days.

Milk&more here too. Milk tastes the same I think although you do get creamy bits at top of the bottle. It’s delivered very early so has never sat on my doorstep all day, I think this is the norm so unless you keep irregular hours it should be fine.

It’s a bit more expensive but worth it for ease and reducing environmental impact.

I love getting my milk three times a week. Milk and more are not small but the milk deliverers are local to you. Sometimes we get a little freebie too 😊

We have Milk and More and another local dairy delivers round here too. Our milkman delivers about 1am, which isn't ideal, but I do love not having to go out to buy milk. I hope the dairy farmers get a bit more from Müller than they do from the supermarket, but that may be wishful thinking!

I used to about 15 years ago but they often didn't have skimmed milk which is all we use. I've just signed up to Milkandmore to find out when they're starting here, maybe it's improved. Thanks for the prompt 🥛

We used to get deliveries at 4-6am, which usually meant in summer the milk went off unless we were there to collect and put it in the fridge. Even then it rarely lasted 2-3 days. Milk in plastic is definitely better.

Yes we've been having our milk delivery for the last 10 years. We go through about 10 pints per week. Think it's about 80p per pint. It's really convenient as I never have to remember to buy milk and we can increase when we need etc, just pop a note in bottle for milkman Smile

We’ve always had milk delivered in glass bottles. Nowadays we buy organic semi-skimmed. I like supporting the milkman and you can buy so much more than just milk. I order big bags of compost from my milkman as I don’t have a car Smile

Use a cool bag in the warmer weather. Milk&more sell them.

Yes, we have had milk delivered in glass bottles for the last 8 months-pros: no plastic usage, not having to run to the late shop at 11pm when you realise you've run out for the morning, definitely tastes better. Cons: our milkman delivers at 2am (it's popular, he has a large round!) so may have got an insulated box for when it gets warmer, more expensive.

Our milkman delivers in the early hours 4 times a week. It works for us. I've had my milk delivered for 25 years.
It's all online now but Mike the Milk used to take a cheque in the 90s.

Wow! I used to deliver milk on my uncles round back in the 80s.. He gave it up not long after as it was dying a death due to cheap supermarket milk. Nice to see it coming back, we were the only people some old people spoke to all week! I loved that Saturday job, it was much more fun than shop work.

Interesting about Asda milk going off. You must get a milkman pp!

We've been having our milk delivered now for about 2 months and I love it. It's free delivery and ok a bit more expensive but the milk tastes so fresh and creamy and there's something so nostalgic with the glass bottles. We get it from Cotteswold Dairies. The milkman (can you even call them that now? Should we be saying Milk Delivery Person?!!) delivers v.early and I never hear him. But so far it's fine as I get up early and bring it in. You can order broken biscuits just like the old days! But I haven't had those yet. Oh and like a pp said you can have compost delivered too. He left a form for ordering plants the other day so I've ordered some nice flowers! DH thinks I'm bonkers but it's just so nice having the weekly delivery to look forward to! Can't believe it's free too! I highly recommend it Grin

Twice a week here, three pints a time.

It is expensive but I guess a regular order is better than nothing. Pay by DD and can change the order online up until ten the night before.

Milk & More deliver milk to me three times a week. It is delivered really early around 4.30 - 5.00 am, so it is never left out on the step all day.

It's a really reliable service, the milkman always delivers no matter how severe the weather is. If I need more milk, I just leave a note in the bottle. The milk is always fresh too. :)

We have our milk delivered 3 times a week - it's great. Have a cool box on the doorstep so it doesn't go off on the rare occasions when we leave earlier than the delivery and it is hot.

We did Milk and More for a while (the only option locally) it was great when it worked, but became really unreliable so we had to stop. Sure it was just a local issue though, might give it a go again.
