I love a charity shop bargain!

I had heard about a Clearance branch of a charity shop quite near to me, so I went to check it out today. I have returned with about 25 tops for me & DC, a coat for me & 1 for DS1 (10), a pair of snow boots for DH & a Fiorelli handbag, all for £10 Shock Most of it is from Next, DP, The White Company etc, although 1 or 2 Primark/Supermarket bits. They had a deal on which was fill a bin liner with clothes for £5 Shock Lots of tat there but good stuff to be found too! Also loads of books, home stuff etc but I didn't look at that in great detail.

Also got (for me) a Boden top, a Jack Wills top, a dress, plus a Joules top & a John Lewis top for DS3 for £7 in another shop!

Super pleased with my bargains Grin

I love a bargain as well, haven't bought any new clothes for ages, as the charity shops by me are decent and I've got loads from Fat Face and White Stuff. Also I've found out M&S jeans fit me really well, and have about four pairs now that all cost around £3-4 each.

confusedofengland · 29/04/2019 17:13

That's so good! I don't think I'll have to buy any new clothes for a while & I think I'll resent paying full price when I do!

Ooh! Can I share my recent bargains too? I got a Ghost dress, a Whistles dress and a Black by Betty Jackson blouse for £25 for the lot. And a striped M and S jumper for a £4.99 yesterday. Was walking on air Grin

Not clothes but today I was very pleased with my Salter diet scales for £1.50. Love a bargain.

I need to find an affluent area and got charity shopping there, all we have is over priced bobbly Primark,

confusedofengland · 29/04/2019 18:41

My friend & I once went charity shopping in Kensington & Chelsea, some lovely stuff there for around the £10 mark (this was about 5 years ago) we met 😍

I believe there are two sorts of people in the world - people who find amazing bargains in charity shops, and people who never find anything to buy. It’s as if some people have some sort of superpowers that the rest of us don’t have.

OP - I salute you as a Charity Shop Whisperer!

Bringbackthestripes · 29/04/2019 18:46

Me too Dobby
All my charity shops just sell faded, bobbly, stretched primark or Tesco tops at the overpriced £2.99 or faded next jeans for £4.99.
And don’t start me on the colour blocking!

JustAnotherMNUserPassing · 29/04/2019 18:52

This sounds like my kind of thread! Found a gorgeous dress in a chazzer the other day £7. Tried it on and it fit like a dream!

Steamfan · 29/04/2019 18:57

I went into a local charity shop on Friday, saw a coat, my size, £5.00. Never worn - looked for it on the M&S website £139.00 - got to say, I was really happy!

girlandboy · 29/04/2019 18:57

My best bargain was a black, heavily beaded evening dress from Monsoon for £7.

Chuffed doesn't even come close Grin

A selection of recent bargains I've found in our local charity shops..
On Saturday in our Air Ambulance shop I bought 6 cups, saucers, side plates, milk jug, and sugar bowl all for £4.25 a beautiful fine white China set with blue hairbell decoration.
It saddens me that these tea sets were once someone's pride and joy, perhaps a wedding present or bought for a 'bottom drawer'.
Am collecting them for a community project so they'll soon be well used.

I bought a pair of much needed shorts for eldest DS recently, also saw a pair to fit middle DS. Good condition, hardly worn. Bloke at the desk told me there was a BOGOF offer. So for the grand total of 50p I got two pairs of shorts! HOWZAT!

A good 80% of our wardrobe are from Chazza shops, I've even converted my DH. Got him a new pair of Moshulu shoes for under £5 last month.

AudTheDeepMinded · 29/04/2019 19:39

But you do have to go regularly and have a rummage!

NoAdventureNoTime · 29/04/2019 19:46

I got this Isabel Marant jacket this week for the grand sum of £5! 😱 and it fits beautifully.

I just picked up a table for a fiver... a fiver for a table!! I’ve painted it up for another £2 and it looks amazing!

Duckswaddle · 29/04/2019 20:16

My best buys have been a silk jaeger coat dress for £3.99, a vintage Mary quant leather jacket for £20, a rack of mini Boden girls clothes for 50p-£1 each, and topshop Jamie jeans for £4.99. I’ve also found a really cool real leather bucket bag for £1 and hand knitted cable jumpers for the kids for pennies. Love the charity shops round here!

Flatwhite101 · 29/04/2019 20:20

Recently picked up a brand new unused cat house/scratch post thing for £1. Would be about £40 or so new in shops, so was pretty pleased with that

IckleWicklePumperNickle · 29/04/2019 20:26

I found a new Dash jacket with tags at £130 for £20. My most expensive buy in a charity shop.

My last 100% wool jacket was £1.

Drogosnextwife · 29/04/2019 20:29

DobbyTheHouseElk

Same here. There are loads around me but absolutely none that you would get anything good that you could call a barging from.

Drogosnextwife · 29/04/2019 20:30

Bargin

BoardingSchoolMater · 29/04/2019 20:37

I love this thread. And I love charity shops!!

The only problem is that once you've got the bug, even Primark seems expensive (given that you can get good quality stuff for relatively little in a charity shop. DS's M&S wool and cashmere school coat was a tenner. Would have been about £150 full price.) You do have to go a bit afield - I have found that suburban charity shops are better for bargains than central ones, as they are paying less rent (am a v long way from London, btw, so I don't know what it's like there. I have been on MN for 20 yrs, so know it's a bit Londony).

AudTheDeepMinded · 29/04/2019 21:07

BoardingSchoolMater I recently visited one nr the London Eye and the prices made my eyes water! at least double what I would pay in my home town.

BoardingSchoolMater · 29/04/2019 21:09

@AudTheDeepMinded Crikey. I am glad we are nowhere near the London Eye!! We are a long way away, and the prices are very reasonable. Esp. if you can be bothered to look in the slightly dodgy areas...
