What will I do all day?

Long story short, DP is a massive baby. He has a VERY IMPORTANT 2 day job interview/assessment centre today and tomorrow (he stays at the assessment centre overnight).

This is the last stage of a 10 month process, so understandably he was very very nervous and wanted me to come with him even though now I've dropped him off I won't see him until 5pm tomorrow

So anyway, I'm back at the hotel, 500 miles away from home. What will I do all day? I'm pretty skint.

I could lounge around the hotel room all day enjoying the whole no housework and dogs to look after thing or I could go out exploring.

I have my laptop, a Nintendo switch, some nice lotions and fave masks and hair masks and I do have a car.

WWYD in my situation?

Where are you?

koality · 29/04/2019 11:57

Go shopping, treat yourself to a nice lunch out.
Does the hotel have a spa or pool, or gym? Do that and a nice face mask, get some snacks and put a movie on.
Is there a museum or tourist attractions nearby?
I'm sure mumsnet will take up a few hours if you want! I don't know where my day goes when I have a lazy day off, enjoy it!

koality · 29/04/2019 11:59

Oh sorry just saw you are skint. Could still go window shopping. I'd probably wander around the local area for a while, always good to see somewhere new.

BiscuitDrama · 29/04/2019 11:59

You say ‘I am pretty skint’. Do you have shared finances with DP? If not, he should give you enough money to entertain yourself for these two days.

BarbaraofSevillle · 29/04/2019 12:15

And presumably you've had to pay someone to look after the dogs while you are away and you will spend more on food than you would at home, so coming with him to hang around the hotel when you don't need to and can't afford to make the most of it doesn't sound like the best plan really.

If your DP can't manage to travel to the assessment centre without you holding his hand, it doesn't sound like he's up to a really important big job does it?

But can you go out for a walk and get a cheapish lunch of some description?

managedmis · 29/04/2019 12:17

We need a location

Spaceunicorn6789 · 29/04/2019 12:21

Sorry, I am in Portsmouth!

DP has given me £150 to entertain myself with as a thank you for coming along but I'd rather not spend it if I don't need too.

When I say I am skint, we are not skint in general (although not well off!) it's just not pay day until tomorrow so my bank account is pretty lean until then.

Thankfully, my mum looks after the dogs for free she loves the dogs more than she loves me and I had rewards from booking. Com so the hotel for an extra night was pretty cheap. As well as moral support for him this morning, it was also so ee could share the driving as flights were coming up absolutely extorniate but it was really to far to drive alone without taking turns.

Currently I've got back into bed and watching this morning and mumsnetting...

Go out for some nice lunch somewhere and buy yourself a new book. Not sure why you feel the need to call DH a big baby, you could have said no! He’s given you a generous amount of money for your inconvenience, go and spend it!

Singlenotsingle · 29/04/2019 12:27

Oh, go out and spend the £150. It's payday tomorrow. Cinema? Lunch? Dinner? Maybe the hotel has a swimming pool or spa? Just enjoy having no work, no chores, and no responsibilities.

Ted27 · 29/04/2019 12:30

Loads to do in Portsmouth, Mary Rose, Royal Dockyards, hovercraft over to the isle of wight

BarbaraofSevillle · 29/04/2019 12:35

So not really a problem then Confused. Nice chunk of money to spend on food, entertainment and shopping.

I'd love to see the Mary Rose Envy.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 29/04/2019 12:36

I'd probably go for a wonder and maybe a cheap lunch, although I wouldn't spend £150 for the sake of it.

Or if you'd rather, go to a shop for supplies and just hang out in the hotel room and relax.

SpoonBlender · 29/04/2019 12:38

Lunch at the seaside, a museum, whatever game you're playing on the Switch, and a wank.

SpoonBlender · 29/04/2019 12:39

Not necessarily in that order, give you're currently in bed!

TheBulb · 29/04/2019 12:41

Is he going to expect you to show up to the actual job with him too, if he gets it?

Can you still go for afternoon tea to the Bond villain's lair-type mini-island? And those nice artists' studios you can go around -- Hotwalls? And either the D-Day museum or the Mary Rose one.

user1474894224 · 29/04/2019 12:42

Definitely go to the dockyard. It's really interesting. You can get a ticket which also takes in the Submarine museum. Etc. Also walk along the front. Take a ferry to Gosport. Portsmouth a beautiful place to be and wander around by the boats etc.

whereshalligo · 29/04/2019 12:42

Bus or walk to Gunwharf Quays enjoy the shops and views. Walk from there to Southsea is nice. Plenty to do in Portsmouth with or without spending any money. Good luck to your DH

Whizzler · 29/04/2019 12:45

Is he going to expect you to show up to the actual job with him too, if he gets it?

ILiveInSalemsLot · 29/04/2019 12:47

Just go out and explore. Google things to do in Portsmouth and find something.

PyongyangKipperbang · 29/04/2019 12:47

So you're not in fact skint and you have plenty of options?

Not seeing the problem tbh....

chocolatefondantcake · 29/04/2019 12:49

I'd spend the money op. Nice food, watch tv, buy some clothes, relax and a bottle of wine. I wish I had this problem Grin

fairydustandpixies · 29/04/2019 13:01

Lunch at Gunwharf Quays, go up the Spinnaker Tower and walk on the glass floor, mooch about Cascades shopping centre - loads to do!

Grumpbum123 · 29/04/2019 13:03

I’d go to Gunwharf Quays and get a coffee/lunch and relax with a book

HollyBollyBooBoo · 29/04/2019 13:08

Don't waste it in a hotel room! Get out and explore - there's a nice outlet mall called Gunwharf Keys that's always worth a mooch around.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 29/04/2019 13:16

The historic dockyard is a good, wrap up warm as we took a boat tour around the harbour and it stopped off at Gunwharf Quay, so we went there and walked back to the dockyard too.

Last minute ticket to see something at one of the theatres?
