I'm early twenties and struggling to find something I love I was studying psychology but I hated it. Just curious what others were doing around my age.

ImTakingTheEssence · 29/04/2019 09:45

I was working in a pub, then a factory now working in care. I actually enjoyed them at the time.

QuestionableMouse · 29/04/2019 09:47

I worked as a groom at a private school. Loved the work, hated the boss who expected us to do a good job with crappy tools!

FaFoutis · 29/04/2019 09:49

I was a researcher for a history department in a university. It was so stressful that my hair fell out.

Nameusernameuser · 29/04/2019 09:51

I work in pharmacy. Qualifications paid for, really good hours, crap pay. But I love it and the girls I work with!

RidgedPerfection · 29/04/2019 10:05

Nursing in the army.

DefinatelyAWeeGobshite · 29/04/2019 10:06

I was (and still am) a nurse. Started my uni course at 19, qualified when I was 22

happypotamus · 29/04/2019 10:07

I was a nurse (I still am now I am in my late 30s). I know someone who studied psychology and then went into nursing, but I wouldn't really recommend nursing and probably no one could afford to do that now you have to pay to do a nursing degree.

GetOffTheRoof · 29/04/2019 10:07

After university, I was a bouncer in a nightclub 😁. That was my beer money job. By day I worked for the police in their witness care department, arranging people and papers to be at court for criminal trials. I ended up working in the 999 control room - the best job I've ever had - then became a police officer.

Fudgenugget · 29/04/2019 10:10

I was studying nursing. Didn't pass, so went into retail, and then public transport as a customer service assistant. I've worked there ever since, nearly 18 years.

vampirethriller · 29/04/2019 10:20

21-24 ran a nightclub. Now I'm a cook.

x2boys · 29/04/2019 11:06

I was a mental health nurse I started my training at 19 and qualified at 22 ,it's much harder to get into I think there's days , and you need Alevels etc, also I got a bursary ,not sure i would recommend it tbh.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 29/04/2019 11:08

Teacher.

In my twenties, thirties, forties, fifties and sixties. With a break for children. Wouldn’t do it again though.

SoundofSilence · 29/04/2019 11:12

Environmental health officer. I hated it, wasn't the right kind of person for it, but had the qualification and a job offer so made what I thought was the safe choice. I wouldn't do it again.

Fairylea · 29/04/2019 11:18

I was working in a pub having the time of my life staying out all night drinking and chasing unsuitable men etc etc and rolling in at 4am GrinBlush

All the other jobs I’ve had since then have been super boring (ended up as a senior marketing manager).

PorpentinaScamander · 29/04/2019 11:21

I was a sahm.

OhMyGodTheyKilledKenny · 29/04/2019 11:21

After I finished my degree I worked on a children's ward as a play specialist and also did one session a week at a youth club for children with disabilities.

EntirelyAnonymised · 29/04/2019 11:24

I did admin work in the public sector.

IndigoSpritz · 29/04/2019 11:31

I worked in commercial insurance from age 19 to 23. Then a call centre for just under a year. Then Airport since age 24.

PQ77 · 29/04/2019 11:35

Qualified as a solicitor at 22 (went to university at 17)

Bumsnet69 · 29/04/2019 11:37

Temp office jobs and hospitality roles (waitress, bar staff, sandwich maker) while searching for a proper career job - coordinating events for a law firm.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 29/04/2019 11:39

19-22 call centre
22-25 baker and cake decorator in a cake shop

pearldeodorant · 29/04/2019 11:40

Medical school from 18-25

Worked as a nanny abroad when I took a year out though. Great experience

PlinkPlink · 29/04/2019 11:54

Teacher in secondary school. Fucking awful.

Then supply teaching.

Then bar work.

Then phone sales.

All awful.

Then I found a good job working for a family company in my town. Bit of everything, mainly manual lifting but I loved it.

I would say try lots of different things until you find something you like. Unfortunately, making a career out of music is pretty difficult. But until I get some private pupils, I'll be doing what I can to get some money in.

OneSweetnerPlease · 29/04/2019 11:58

I'm 24. I too did Psychology at uni.

I currently work in mental health, not well paid though, nor do I have a "professional" job, but I love it!

Itsagrandoldteam · 29/04/2019 12:03

I was an accountant, but I have been a SAHM for along time now.
