Not to go to university, I mean, when you no longer had a bedroom or regularly stayed with your parents?

I was 18.

I left to go to university at 18, my mum then moved out of town and rented the house out, so when I went to stay with her it was in a different city and wasn't my home anymore. I stayed with her for a few months at 21, then went abroad and moved into a home with now DH.

BoomZahramay · 28/04/2019 18:15

18 when I went to uni... didn't come back that much. Moved home for 6 months at 23yo before buying my first house at 24. Never stayed a single night there since! Though my bedroom there remains exactly the same... many years later. It's almost creepy.

I'm 26 and a married mum but I still have a bedroom at my dads house. I also had one at my mums for the first couple of years I no longer lived there.
I never go to my dads though. Last time I was there was October 2016.

GinaCarbonara · 28/04/2019 18:17

18, moved to the other side of the world. It was my first time in another country too! I didn't go back for 7 years.

Monkeyssplit · 28/04/2019 18:17

18

I joined the army at 16, so moved into barracks for majority of the year. I’d go home over leave periods or I’d be off on holiday with my friends, so I probably only spent a few weeks out of the year - mainly Christmas and Easter in my mum and dad’s house.
I met DH the same year, (also serving military) so I’d spend a lot of weekends with him, on his camp rather than going home. We got our house together when I was 19, then got married and moved into married quarters instead.

simbobs · 28/04/2019 18:18

19 when I left to go to uni. I came home for many of the hols until I finished, but got a job straight away in another part of the country. There was always a room for me in my parents' house until they died. And I can't imagine ever having a home where my dc could not come and stay, either.

DarcyDrive · 28/04/2019 18:27
  1. My parents moved abroad and left me behind. Grin Best thing they could have done for me tbh. They moved in with me (!!) for 6 months. But otherwise flying solo. 29 now.
Juanbablo · 28/04/2019 18:27

I was 18.

junebirthdaygirl · 28/04/2019 18:50

I left home at 18 to go to university but still had a room in my parents house right up until 56 when my dm died. I stayed there off and on with my DC over the years for holidays and all my siblings came there with their families on holidays.
Obviously l had my own house all that time but sleeping at my dms was a regular thing. I feel my own DC will be the same.
They have left home now but their rooms are there and they can come whenever they want.

I left school after GCSEs and went straight to FT work (later got a degree and went into a profession). I didn’t have a happy home life so it was a means to an end, a way to get free.

MrsWidgerysLodger · 28/04/2019 18:55
  1. Moved in with a boyfriend who was an utter cock but after my love-addled brain had figured that out I decided to get a little flat by myself rather than go home. No massive issues other than the usual teenage clashes with my Mum, I'd just got a taste of living my way and didn't want to give that up!
Hanumantelpiece · 28/04/2019 18:57
  1. Had to move back home at 25, and moved out again when I got married at 27
chandylier · 28/04/2019 19:00

I’m surprised at these answers.
I left at 22 to go to university, and stayed 6months after I finished university.
So was actually 26

sugartitz · 28/04/2019 19:15

I was 25 and 30 weeks pregnant with our first. Both me and partner lived with our own parents up until that point

Squiff70 · 28/04/2019 19:18

I was drop-kicked out of the nest at just turned 19. Came home from college to find a 'for sale' sign outside the house. It sold the same day it went on the market. FML back then.

ItProtectsMyHead · 28/04/2019 19:32

20, I moved in with my then boyfriend who is now my DH

NerrSnerr · 28/04/2019 19:39

I was 19, during my second year of university. I got a job in my university town and just stayed there most of the time. My parents had just separated and were both in new relationships so I wasn't really welcome.

shitpark · 28/04/2019 19:49

Aged 16, I went to live in a squat

Bouledeneige · 28/04/2019 20:14

I left home from 18 - 22 to study at university at home and abroad then came home for a year before leaving for good at 23.

PaperFlowerTree · 28/04/2019 20:21

Not long after my 18th birthday. Never went back.
Lived in a house share for 3 years after which my then boyfriend and I (now DH) decided to get a place together.
