Not to go to university, I mean, when you no longer had a bedroom or regularly stayed with your parents?

I was 18.

  1. I would have been in care these days but back then no one cared as long as you weren't getting arrested for anything.

22 when I got married. 11 years later I'm now back home after separating

IVEgottheDECAF · 28/04/2019 15:00

Properly? When I was 27 and bought a house. I never ‘moved back in’ as such but I still had a bedroom and would stay for up to maybe 4 weeks at a time when I needed to.

17, I couldn’t wait to move out, I had a tiny (windowless) room in a house share but it was my little slice of heaven.

18, then moved back when I was 20 for a brief period, then moved for work at 21, popped back for about 6 months at 23, then moved in with then boyfriend until 29 when we split, stayed with my parents for 18 months while dealing with the messy aftermath and then moved out again and in with now DH at 31. I'm 36 now.
I'm very lucky to have tolerant parents who haven't minded me boomeranging back several times, but we do have a very close relationship (I miss having g&t o'clock with my mum!!) and even now only live 20 minutes away. My brother on the other hand didn't move out at all until he was almost 30 Hmm

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/04/2019 15:14

There's still a room at my mum's. Grin With The Cure posters and everything.

I moved out to work at 17. Then university, job etc. I briefly moved back a few times because of employment, relationship break-ups. I was a boomerang child. My brother had to be turfed out because he would never have left.

  1. I wasn't fully self financing though.
Cocolapew · 28/04/2019 15:17

23 when I moved in with my boyfriend.
Moved back for a few months at 25 when we broke up. Then I moved out again to my own place.

16, I was kicked out and became homeless. Struggled to find anything like 'permanent' accommodation for 2 years. At 18 I went to university and got student accommodation, the first bit of stability I had. Bizarre that living on a student loan gave me financial security too. I built my life from there on in. Happily married now, child, own home, run my own business etc.

StoatofDisarray · 28/04/2019 15:25

18 and it wasn't a moment too soon. I have only been back once, and that was enough to know I'll never go back again.

nel123baby · 28/04/2019 15:30
