Does Scotland have a May half term?

Please excuse my ignorance, but I'm struggling to find an exact answer online... does Scotland have a May half term break? It doesn't look like it? (I'm planning a trip in late May and looking to avoid school hols)

We just have the bank holidays off I think. I'll check or local holidays

Drogosnextwife · 27/04/2019 22:35

In our area the kids are not getting one day off its either Monday the 6th or the 13th.

Biscusting · 27/04/2019 22:35

Yes it does, but the actual dates may depend upon the school

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 22:36

May day holiday: Monday 6 May 2019
In-Service day: 7 May 2019
Mid-term holiday: Friday 24 May 2019 and Monday 27 May 2019

These are ours - north Lanarkshire

FannyFeatures · 27/04/2019 22:36

Ours don't, half term here is Feb because we finish up for summer in June.

Off first Monday in May for May day.

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 22:38

Where are you going?

Middledistancerunner · 27/04/2019 22:38

Our council has a May bank holiday weekend which has an in-service day tacked on, so Thursday 23 rd -Monday 27th inclusive.

Other councils might be different though - depends where in Scotland your going?

guessmyusername · 27/04/2019 22:49

Each council will be different. Here it is 6 & 7 May and 20th May

Nemesia · 27/04/2019 22:51

We only have the 6th of May off.

thaegumathteth · 27/04/2019 22:52

Ours don’t in central Scotland

Lochroy · 27/04/2019 22:53

Thanks - Perth and the Highlands. Doesn't seem like anywhere has a full week off like England though.

MrsAmaretto · 27/04/2019 22:53

We normally get a long weekend but it is just the Monday 27th, as we used the other holiday for Easter Monday instead this year.

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 22:54

No it's just odd days as we finish the school year at the end of June

LtGreggs · 27/04/2019 22:55

Stirling, Clacks & Falkirk don't have a half term. Some schools get the first May Bank Holiday, some don't.

Aberdeen doesn't get half term.

Don't know about other areas, but Scottish holidays in general are more variable by council than England, so check their websites. Most schools finish for summer at end June.

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 22:55

Perth seems to just have 6th may off

dementedpixie · 27/04/2019 22:57

Highlands also seems to be just 6th may

ShesABelter · 27/04/2019 23:29

In my area the kids are off the 6th May. Then they are off the 26 and 27th May then break up for summer hols 28th June.

ShesABelter · 27/04/2019 23:30

Ours is South ayrshire

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 28/04/2019 07:16

Perth had Good Friday Easter Monday and the Tuesday as INSET - then they have May Day. Then straight through till summer. Dundee didn’t get Easter Monday but they get Victoria Day which is the last Monday in May

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 28/04/2019 07:17

Oh and there’s a weird Thursday INSET but back to school Friday thing just before the holiday weekend just to mess with anyone who wants a wee weekend away

Starryskiesinthesky · 28/04/2019 07:23

Edinburgh and just the 6th May for our school. I think!

LoopyGremlin · 28/04/2019 07:27

Starryskies Edinburgh also has 7 May in service day and 20th May Victoria Day holiday.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 28/04/2019 07:30

I don't any state schools in Scotland take a half-term break because our Easter holidays and Summer holidays are only 9 weeks apart.

Fife is off on the 6th May and again for a long weekend at the beginning of June.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 28/04/2019 07:34

I’m in the Highlands we are off Monday 6th May then and in-service day in June but that’s it until the summer holidays. We don’t take a week or anything at that time because our summer starts much earlier.
