Last time I had one was July 2016. Only reason I remember is because I was at my DC’s sports day and I had to rush off suddenly because I knew I was about to vomit. I made it to the car park across the road before I just couldn’t hold it in anymore. Pretty gross, I had to drive home then with sick all over my shoes and ask my Mum to pick the DC up from school Grin.

I had one about four years before that. Remember it because I had baby DD and I was breastfeeding her in one arm, sick bowl in the other! Grim.

I can probably count on both hands how many I’ve had in my life so it doesn’t happen often.

Thanks everyone so far for all your comments - to be fair, a full-on vomitting (due to a bug and not allergies) - I've had like once or twice in the last few years but it's more the diarrhea and severe nausea I get more frequent bouts of.

I did consider giving blood but as I'm a bit anaemic and my weight is quite low, I've always put it off.

I cant remember getting a d&v type bug since childhood despite nursing my children through them. Ds seems susceptible, he has one now in fact. I get a cold type virus once or twice a year but seem to shake them off easily enough.

shazkiwi · 29/04/2019 20:20

I get it once per year, usually nausea (no vomitting), or if I'm unlucky twice a year. I do work with young children and I have school age children so I'm surrounded by the bugs. I'm fastidious about handwashing but I still manage to catch it.

yorkshirepud44 · 29/04/2019 22:58

I'm o + blood type and annoyingly susceptible to stomach bugs - get several mild ones a year and have unusually had 2 which have kept me off work for a day so far this year.
V jealous of all you hardy folk, stomach bugs are horrendous.

Megan2018 · 29/04/2019 23:15

I’m O+ and don’t get ill-I think blood type is as accurate as star sign!

RogueV · 29/04/2019 23:18

I’m 36 and I’ve probably had around 2 stomach bugs in my whole life - touch wood!

TrickyKid · 29/04/2019 23:20

Only once in my adult life that I can think of.

Titsywoo · 29/04/2019 23:23

Not many. I've noticed that I only ever seem to catch bugs off other adults and never my kids. The kids had loads at primary school but I've only had 3 in the last 20 years and they were always when it been in contact with another adult who had it. Very odd.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 29/04/2019 23:27

I’m convinced some people just get these more than others. The kids get it once a year (I have three young kids at nursery/school). DH always catches it. I haven’t had one in a decade although I will feel sick mildly a couple of days on and off and that’s it.

I think it’s is luck. I do take probiotics though!

CremeEggThief · 29/04/2019 23:31

I had one in 2012 and one in 2015.
DS had one in 2012 (then gave it to me) and in September last year.

DaisyDreaming · 29/04/2019 23:40

A friend of a friend gets them every term at least. The school don’t have a 48 hour rule and say send the child in as soon as they feel ok

Walnutwhipster · 29/04/2019 23:57

Never. I've had my stomach completely removed! Not something I recommend.

Borelis · 30/04/2019 20:38

@Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow

Which probiotics do you take and how long have you been taking them? At what dosage?

Thanks :)

I usually take Bio Kult, two a day!

juneau · 01/05/2019 08:32

I have IBS so I often get minor stomach upsets and if you suspect this OP I suggest you go and get it diagnosed, as once you know it's that you can make lifestyle changes that help.

It could just be from the unhygienic places you hang out though. You just don't know what is present on the door of a public loo and if your housemates are filthy that's not good either. Having said that, I'm not a fan of anti-bacterial everything - good old-fashioned soap and water is fine - but do wash your hands regularly and certainly before touching food/eating, when you come after being out and about, and try not to touch your face unless you hands are clean.

I haven't had a stomach bug in over 10 years (touch wood!). And that's through raising two DC, both of whom have had them every now and again, so practising good hygiene definitely makes a difference. Bathrooms should be cleaned with bleach at least once a week IMO and the kitchen is always spotless when I go to bed. I never leave dirty dishes hanging around. Bleugh!
