How often would you say you get a stomach bug/infection/virus per year?

OP posts:
Emmabryant123 · 27/04/2019 19:43

I also have a 3 year old and have never caught any of her tummy bugs
She has had about 5

SlidingDoor · 27/04/2019 19:44

OP, it’s quite inconsistent that you don’t wash up for 48 hours (unusual behaviour and a huge germ risk) yet you don’t touch food with your hands (extremely unusual behaviour to avoid germs).

The fact that you do those two things sort of suggests you don’t understand hygiene and that may be your problem.

I’d start washing up regularly, not using your phone on the loo, regularly washing hands with warm water and soap (much better than anti bac gel) but eating normally.

Ragwort · 27/04/2019 19:49

Hardly ever, last virus about seven years ago (almost ruined a very expensive dream holiday Sad). Can’t remember when I last vomited.

I am not particularly scrupulous but I do think leaving washing up for 48 hours is a bit grim (& can’t imagine using my phone in the loo Hmm.)

We do the washing up once every 24 hours here after dinner
Must admit breakfast stuff is left on the side until either I or do wash up after dinner

DrMadelineMaxwell · 27/04/2019 19:51

I've had 3 stomach bugs in 25 years.

JazzersMaw · 27/04/2019 19:51

I can remember only 3 in my entire life - 58 tomorrow and I’ve been veggie since my teens. Smile It tends to be meat eaters who get dodgy guts from dodgy meat etcetera. Confirmed by son with science degree.

pink412 · 27/04/2019 19:52

Ever 6/8 weeks by immune system is amazing at getting any infection

IntoValhalla · 27/04/2019 19:54

My immune system is usually pretty solid - I’ve gone years with nothing more than a winter sniffle before. But since having DCs (first born in 2015) my immune system has taken a battering! I’ve had shingles twice, two bouts of D&V, three lots of strep throat, and most recently whooping cough Confused Both lots of shingles and the whooping cough have been in the first trimesters of three pregnancies though, so the immune system is naturally suppressed during that time isn’t it?

bluebluezoo · 27/04/2019 19:55

5) Last 10 years or so, I've never eaten anything that's been in contact with my hands - I always use clean tissues even when eating stuff like fries

Sandwiches, crisps etc? You never eat anything with your hands? How do you prepare food?

Do you vomit or is it just nausea and diarrhoea?

Foodylicious · 27/04/2019 19:55

In the last 20 years I have had 1 x food poisoning & 1 x proper stomach bug.

Generally if I eat something that doesn't agree with me I'm sick pretty quickly so nothing has chance to develop further.

Chancewouldbeafinethlng · 27/04/2019 19:55

I’ve had a sickness bug once last year, nothing so far this year.

LarkDescending · 27/04/2019 19:55

I last had a d&v bug in my teens (now 50). Not smug though as I have had to have major bowel surgery for other, non-contagious, reasons!

Not sure why I don’t get stomach bugs - I think different people are prone to different things. I get sinusitis all the time.

Foodylicious · 27/04/2019 19:56

Oh and nearly 40 yrs old now.
I only remember having one proper sickness bug as a child.

LeekMunchingSheepShagger · 27/04/2019 19:59

I had a fair few when my dc were babies/toddlers but the last one was 7 or 8 years ago now (touch wood!!) My 11 year old gets a vomiting big every year but my 9 year old has never had one (touch wood again!!)

Foodylicious · 27/04/2019 20:02

Just read your post about your symptoms.

Could be IBS or an allergy perhaps?

Go back to gp and ask them to send off a sample of your poo for testing too.

Have you tried taking probiotics?

Ffsnosexallowed · 27/04/2019 20:05

Are you sure it's a stomach bug you're getting and not ibs or something like that. I don't get stomach bugs, but will have slight diaorhea if I eat lots of fatty foods.

stitchwitch84 · 27/04/2019 20:10

Never used to, since marrying DH I've had about five this year 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ currently in bed with an awful one, liquid poo every two hours, and I'm v early pregnancy and slightly concerned about baby! GP has checked hydration and I'm ok-ish though, thank goodness.

Never used to be susceptible. This had better not be the new norm!!

jcq17 · 27/04/2019 20:10

Once every 5 years maybe

Paddingtonthebear · 27/04/2019 20:12

Once over 15 years ago which was food poisoning in Egypt. DD6 has never had one, nor has ever been sick. We have strong constitutions. Husband often has a bad stomach and IBS problems

oneoffname · 27/04/2019 20:34

I tend to get them every couple of years or so - I work in a primary school and suspect that's where most of mine originate. Just had the most awful bug over Easter - was in bed for three days and very fragile for a few days after. It's only really since yesterday I've felt anywhere approaching normal and I still haven't even looked at any chocolate! Hopefully that's it for a couple of years!

SimonJT · 27/04/2019 20:36

I don’t think I have since being a young child, growing up in Pakistan gives you guys of steel.

Chartreuser · 27/04/2019 20:42

What blood type are you? DH and I are type A (and so I assume are the kids) we get them very very rarely. Kids have had one or two in their lives and are 14, 12 and 10.

I grew up in a messy unclean house, as do the kids which may help.

Also only use antibacterial if medical need (is clean a wound), really don't believe in anti bacterial washing up liquid, I am sure it has been proven to be detrimental.

Kids were/are prone to tonsillitis which makes them stuck so we don't escape Scott free!

Chartreuser · 27/04/2019 20:42

^sick

deste · 27/04/2019 20:48

I had one 20 years ago until last Sunday, my DD and I both had a sickness bug. I was so bad I couldn’t go home after a weekend away. Roll on 4 days and DH had one on Friday into the early hours, again on a weekend away. All food was fresh, only bought on Friday so all in date. He hasn’t had one for about thirty years so no idea what is going on.

What’s blood type got to do with it?

Your kids could be A or O, btw.
