Partners 30th this year, I can't think of a present that is special enough, so what did you do for your 30th? Or what did you get your other half's for there's?

Stayed home alone. Drank wine. Cried because nobody gave a shit. Sad

Drogosnextwife · 25/04/2019 13:56

We are planning a trip to italy. DP was 30 last year, I'm 30 next year and we have never been on holiday alone and we both really want to go to Rome. Haven't started saving yet though, better do it soon.

Ohhellothereladyface · 25/04/2019 14:04

On my actual 30th we went out for a meal with my family.
My friends also organised a suprise afternoon tea at my friends house with all my favourite snacks and dodgy photos of me as a teenager, then a minibus to take us into Brighton where we went to a cocktail bar, then onto Lucky Voice which is basically a karaoke bar where you have your own room and drinks service.

I arranged a day in London for my DH's 30th with loads of his friends. He didn't know who was coming or what we'd be doing so as each thing happened and as each person arrived it was a surprise. We didn't do anything wildly exciting but ate at a nice dim sum restaurant for lunch, had a boat trip on the Thames and then dinner at a French restaurant. The exciting thing was friends he hadn't seen for years had travelled from all over UK and abroad to see him. The next day was just me and him in London. We had afternoon tea and a trip to see an exhibition. It was 10 years ago and we still remember it fondly

Thank you for all your suggestions so far! They are very helpful! We try and make a celebration out of birthdays yes, why not? It's good fun and I want this to be a special one for him

I had a big party in a bar for my 30th. My DH had a smaller celebration for 10 close friends.

AlbusPercival · 25/04/2019 14:34

My DH commissioned a portrait of me andDs.

We were on holiday at the time and had a gorgeous dinner on the beach

allfurcoatnoknickers · 25/04/2019 14:46

Hermes H Hour watch as a gift from DH, and we went to Las Vegas to celebrate. Also threw a 1986 themed party at home for all my friends.

I might have gone a bit overboard.

EmmaStone · 25/04/2019 14:46

For DH's 30th, I paid for him to have a men's pampering session at some posh London barber's (where he actually learnt how to shave properly - he took it to heart, and still uses their recommended products 15 years on) we went to a v posh restaurant and stayed the night in a nice part of London. Then when we got home, I'd organised a surprise party with his closest friends, which was actually quite epic.

For my 30th, I was in early pregnancy with DC1, but we went away to Venice, which was lush, even if I felt slightly sick and exhausted the whole time.

For our 40ths we went to New York for a few nights child free.

Crunchymum · 25/04/2019 14:48

Party. My one and only adult party..... ended in a brawl Shock

Took DP to Rome for his.

cushioncovers · 25/04/2019 14:52

Helicopter lesson and a meal out for my exh 30th. Didn't do much for mine as was pregnant at the time but had the usual gifts and meal out. That was nearly 20 years ago though.

hihellohihey · 25/04/2019 14:54

Vegas!!!!

blackteaplease · 25/04/2019 14:56

Dh took me to a show in London which was a surprise and I also had a bbq party at home.

motortroll · 25/04/2019 14:57

We went out for a fancy Chinese with my sister, bil and some friends. Great night!

Theninjawhinger · 25/04/2019 15:00

My 30th was awful!

I’d been working away loads with work, had just begged my boss to let me move back home up north when I was meant to be based in London for a year. It was genuinely horrific - lots of crying and hating being in the big smoke. My ex took me on a weekend break to, yup, you guessed it.... London. We stayed round the corner from the flat I had literally moved out of a fortnight ago.

Other awesome birthdays have included hiring a private cinema, having 30 presents to unwrap, being whisked away on a mini break and being given clues through out the journey on where I was going to end up..... have a look on Pinterest, there’s loads of ideas!

Left my husband 😂

BikeRunSki · 25/04/2019 15:14

We were absolutely skint. We saved up and went for a curry at my favourite place in Sheffield (we’d moved about 20 miles away earlier that year). At the time, even having the fuel for a non-essential journey was a big deal!

RunningLondon · 25/04/2019 15:17

For his we went to Prague. Loved it!

For mine we went to Las Vegas and ran the half marathon. Loved that even more!

Itsagrandoldteam · 25/04/2019 15:26

We were in Florida for my 30th, didn't go especially for my birthday, it just happened to coincide. We were walking along the beach in the moonlight, when suddenly about half a mile away there was a huge fireworks display. DH swears he arranged it (not)

I cannot remember what we did for his 30th, but we on holiday again for his 40th and I got him a nice watch.

SheChoseDown · 25/04/2019 15:48

Took my oh on a city break. Booked an amazing hotel with a meal and a couple of the cities sights. It was an hour from home.
I was pregnant for mine but we would have gone on a city break again.

DXBMermaid · 25/04/2019 15:58

Had an awesome party with friends. Everyone dressed as something that started with the first letter of their name.
Got rather drunk, and found out a few days later that I was pregnant. DD1, the hangover that never went away 😂

MsSquiz · 25/04/2019 16:15

We were on holiday for my 30th. We had done 3 nights in San Francisco, 2 nights in Yosemite, 1 night in Death Valley and 4 nights in Las Vegas - we were in Vegas on the day of my birthday and we went to Gordon Ramsay's steakhouse for dinner.

For DH's 30th we had a huge BBQ for family and friends at home

spannerintheneck · 25/04/2019 16:45

Seems to be a theme of either experiences or holidays away for the big 3-0, he's big into cars so I am looking at maybe formula 1 tickets for the race nearest his birthday, what about actually gifts? I have thought about a really nice watch, any other ideas?

For my dh's 30th I gave him 30 different presents. Most of them were little meaningful gifts that we're not expensive, some of them gimmicky.
His main present as such within the 30 was a driving day (not a very expensive one though!).
He's very low maintenance and didn't want a fuss made. I put on a small buffet for our very immediate family (which he was happy with) we also had a nice continental breakfast at home.
We then just spent the day as a family with our young sons playing in the garden.
However for my 30th next year I'm organising a big party with our friends and family, with an 80's/90's fancy dress theme. Nothing fancy/expensive, just good music and good company!
Love a good family get together!
