Infected elbow/ arm..

So I had an accident at work last week.. it involved a scalpel and a fainting medical student. Long story.

Anyway. Occupational health gave me a hiv test and not a lot else as it was a clean scalpel. They were frankly fucking useless. I went to see my GP today as it was my day off and I was worried. When I went to see him it was a fairly clean wound and he took a swab and said to keep it open to the air. As I've just finished a course of Clarithromycin for an infected face (got all the sexy stuff me don't I?!)

Now I've had a bit of pain from it over the weekend but oh my god it's mutated through the day. I'm
In work tomorrow and off on Thursday but I don't know what to do with it!

Do I cover it up with a dressing and hope no one notices the discharge or get another appointment tomorrow ?

The photos are;
This morning at 7am
This afternoon at 3 (after the swab)
This evening at 10pm

It's so fucking painful!

Fucking hell its warm on this ward! I'm still in. Because they want to know what is causing the infection. But it doesn't take a genius to guess it pseudomonas 😭 it stinks! I want to cut it off. Envy🤢

If it’s any consolation, I damaged a tendon in my hand on Monday and on Tuesday morning my friend told me not to be such a numpty and go to ED to get it looked at as I kept shrieking when I had to move it.
Now off work for a week with a splint 🤦🏻‍♀️

wigglypiggly · 25/04/2019 10:53

Is it the nice frothy green pseudomonasSad how did that get in, poor old you it must be very distressing.

MrsMozartMkII · 25/04/2019 10:58

Bleugh.

Hope it's all sorted soonest lass.

NewYoiker · 26/04/2019 16:10

Ooh, spooky, was just thinking about you.

It's not looking grand, but I guess it'll look worse before it looks better. Fingers crossed that's soon!

DeRigueurMortis · 26/04/2019 19:57

Are you going to follow advice this time?

Glad you are on the mend Thanks

NewYoiker · 27/04/2019 00:47

@DeRigueurMortis yes absolutely the amount of pain I've been in has been awful

OP posts:
FaithInfinity · 27/04/2019 07:59

Well that looks better! Good job you got medical attention when you did.

I’m a nurse and I’m loathe to seek medical attention. I think we don’t want to waste resources unless we think it’s really bad. I was in agony with abdo pain for 48 hours before DH finally persuaded me to seek medical attention. I was really grumpy too, I remember saying ^You know they’ll probably admit me? Fine I’ll pack a bag just in case!’ Angry (my face). I hate being on the other side of it!

Well I’m glad you’re on the mend. Make sure work know it was a work related incident!

roundligament · 27/04/2019 08:08

Oh man pseudomonas is the worst I had it several times :(

DoorbellsSleighbellsSchnitzel · 27/04/2019 15:54

Oh dear. Hope it all heals without further issue. Bet you're glad to be home!

NewYoiker · 29/04/2019 22:59

The pain is really intense:(

OP posts:
TokyoSushi · 29/04/2019 23:04

Oh OP, this looks as if it's been awful, is it getting any better, sorry you're still in so much pain Sad

Pieceofpurplesky · 29/04/2019 23:08

Has the infection spread?

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/04/2019 23:12

Go back in, you numpty!

friskybivalves · 29/04/2019 23:15

Has the affected area spread? Have you done the old drawing round it with a Biro to track it? Agree that if it's still really intense pain you need to get it seen to again. Any red streaks heading toward your heart?

SpoonBlender · 29/04/2019 23:18

Last week DeRigueurMortis said "You however are a Nurse....what would you advise someone else to do?" and that holds just as true now as then.

A&E time again for you, miss! If you weren't totally messed up you wouldn't be in pain. And you'd have better decision making capabilities.

Haworthia · 29/04/2019 23:23

Whoa - how did a clean scalpel introduce a nasty infection like that?

You know you need to get it looked at again, dude.

Theninjawhinger · 29/04/2019 23:25

I get that as a nurse you don’t want to use the NHS unduly, but you ARE the NHS. You, of all people, need looking after! Get your bum back to a&e lady, sooner you are better, sooner you can help other people again!

NewYoiker · 30/04/2019 00:26

I'm going back in. I can't deal with the pain. I had it redressed today and the scab came off and it's bigger. Taking a bag with me

OP posts:
NewYoiker · 30/04/2019 00:28

I'd been opening swabs packets and using gloves to take samples etc, I had gloves on at the time having just closed a bin bag stood up med student fainted I got hurt. Ripped my gloves off and immediately applied pressure to stop the bleeding. But I didn't have chance to wash my hands after taking the gloves off so there could be a small amount of transfer on my hands

OP posts:
BoreOfWhabylon · 30/04/2019 00:30

Oh, that's definitely not settling down, is it?

Hope they can make you more comfortable and get it sorted soon
