What’s yours?

I’ll start 🐷

My son made Mary Berry’s Simnel Cake for me yesterday.

It’s the most delicious, perfect thing.

Light, moist fruit cake with a layer of marzipan running through it. Slightly darker on the edges for a little bit of chew while at the same time being in no way over cooked.

Marzipan layer and marzipan balls on top.

If you like fruit cake and marzipan I urge you to try it. Honestly it’s the most gorgeous thing. My mouth is watering again just thinking about it 😳

So - describe your favourite cake to me. Sell it to me. Make me drool 🤤😁

Red velvet or carrot cake for me.

PurpleDaisies · 22/04/2019 20:57

Coffee walnut or carrot cake.

Or lemon drizzle. It’s hard.

IhateBoswell · 22/04/2019 20:59

Manchester tart. Shortcrust pastry base, a set custard, raspberry jam and dessicated coconut sprinkled on top. Lovely.

A deliciously moist carrot cake with a generous cream cheese icing topping.

Or

A light tangy lemon drizzle with a sweet crunchy lemony topping.

Christmas cake, with marzipan and icing.

yearinyearout · 22/04/2019 21:03

Sounds lovely (I love marzipan). My favourite is carrot cake, I use the primrose bakery recipe and everyone loves it.

Paddy1234 · 22/04/2019 21:05

Carrot cake with generous icing all the way for me!

Bloodybridget · 22/04/2019 21:05

Delia Smith's Chunky Apple Cake, recipe in her ancient Book of Cakes, I've made it loads of times. Half and half white and wholewheat flour, orange zest adds a lovely tang, it's delicious.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 22/04/2019 21:07

One that consists of minimal cake but lots of marzipan, ganache, icing, frosting, chocolate pieces etc.

FiremanKing · 22/04/2019 21:08

Torta Caprese

It’s an Italian chocolate and almond cake. You can also use other nuts.

FlowersInMotion · 22/04/2019 21:12

Carrot cake without raisins or walnuts because they're evil and ruin everything that they're added to.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 22/04/2019 21:17

I made a pistachio and rose cake for Easter that I think is now my new favourite. Up until now it has been my chocolate brownies.

Madvixen · 22/04/2019 21:17

Cherry bakewell cake with Hartley's cherry jam in the middle and glacé cherries in the sponge

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 22/04/2019 21:37

My mum makes an amazing cake with plums and crunchy brown sugar on top. It's tasty and moist and because there's fruit in it it's practically good for you Grin

Rumbletum2 · 22/04/2019 21:48

Ooh these all sound amazing!

Can we have recipes if possible??

Loving the sound of the plum cake

Good old Victoria sponge! Or chocolate brownies.

formerbabe · 22/04/2019 21:56

Really good birthday cake! Plain sponge with buttercream filling covered in fondant icing.

Laiste · 22/04/2019 22:00

Apple cake.

you can rarely find it in the shops

WickedGoodDoge · 22/04/2019 22:04

Hummingbird cake, but really I want to know if you would be willing to share your cake baking son?

BackforGood · 22/04/2019 22:04

A lovely deep coffee cake with coffee icing but DO NOT ruin it with walnuts as seems to have become more of a 'thing' of late, please.

StripeyChina · 22/04/2019 22:07

I made Mary Berry's Simnel this year too (normally BBC Simnel)
It is really lovely (I may have had a slice for breakfast)

Christmas cake obvs as it also contains fruit cake and marzipan - yum!

Coffee and Walnut. Lemon Drizzle. Really fresh cheesecake. Mmmm..

tobee · 22/04/2019 22:08

All cake.

midsomermurderess · 22/04/2019 22:57

Victoria Sponge. If perfect, few things are better.

Rumbletum2 · 22/04/2019 23:01

WickedGood - I would share him but even I have to beg him to bake nowadays 😕

He used to be obsessed with baking but a couple of years ago he went on a diet and lost 4 stone and doesn’t bake anywhere near as often as he used to 😕
