Have you put suncream on your kids this weekend?

I did yesterday but DS has just gone out now so I thought I’d let him get some vitamin D. I’ve had skin cancer (basal cell) so I tend to go ott with it the suncream. It’s ok at this time of day to be without though isn’t it? He’s got jogging bottoms, t shirt and cap on so only his forearms our really.

I’m mixed race and in Ireland, and use factor 15 foundation, but I’ve still caught the sun on my face today

Slathered DC in factor 50 as soon as we went outside...

ImTheRealHFella · 21/04/2019 20:33

Left my two til 11am to get done vitamin D, and then stuck some on. We were outside most of the day so they needed it.

Thatsnotmyotter · 21/04/2019 20:40

DS has been slathered head to toe in factor 50 for the last few days. He’s pretty much just been in a nappy and hat the whole time so I’ve tried to keep him in the shade too.

I think it’s really important for kids ( and adults) to get vitamin D but he’s only 7 months and very fair so now is not the time for it!

huggybear · 21/04/2019 20:43

Oh come on, anyone in the areas of the country where it has been hot and sunny is surely putting cream on? I've had factor 50 on the last few days myself.

RedCrab · 21/04/2019 20:46

Yes @bobbiepin - I was going to post something to that effect. My DCs are mixed race but they still have suncream put on.

adaline · 21/04/2019 20:48

All the Vitamin D comments - you only need to expose your skin to the sun for about 20 minutes to get enough vitamin D - and it doesn't have to be everyday either.

Nobody needs to be out for hours without suncream. Dark-skinned people get cancer too.

drspouse · 21/04/2019 20:50

All together now:
YOU ARE NO MORE LIKELY TO GET BURNED IF IT'S HOT.
It's the time of year that matters.
And in answer to the OP, yes, the day we spent 2 hours at a castle outdoors.

redbedheadd · 21/04/2019 20:50

Definitely! It's really warm in London. I wear sun cream on my face everyday anyway.

Fatted · 21/04/2019 20:51

Yup. My eldest is a red head and I just sprayon some 8hr sunscreen before we go out. Boots do factor 50 one for kids that's perfect for my DS's

Lungelady · 21/04/2019 20:51

whatawolly apt name

Bubblysqueak · 21/04/2019 20:54

Yes several times yesterday Nd today. DH missed a small patch on his ankle yesterday and it was bright red by yesterday evening so very glad we did. Been on the beach all day today so made sure to cover everyone and reapplied after being in the sea.

Harleyisme · 21/04/2019 20:55

I haven't for my 4 year old he has had it in but also sometime with it off.
My 5 year old has photosensitivity (sun allergy) so hes had it on always as well as being covered as much as possible then again there can be times in winter he has to wear Sun cream.

soulrider · 21/04/2019 20:56

I put suncream on today as I knew I'd be in and out of the sun all day walking.

I wouldn't have applied sun cream, in the situation the op describes, where I was only first going out at 3 30pm.

ValleyoftheHorses · 21/04/2019 20:59

Yes because there isn’t a lot of shade in our garden or where we were on a day out yesterday. I think after 6 months of no sun it’s more dangerous so tried to be careful but DS does have rosy cheeks still

Echobelly · 21/04/2019 20:59

Yes, but only as we were doing a 3-mile country walk.

I actually seem to need to damn stuff more than they do. They can go a whole school day in boiling sun with one application in the morning and be fine, I can apply the stuff all day and still get burned (they haven't inherited my pasty complexion!)

Bobbiepin · 21/04/2019 21:03

@drspouse but you are more likely to be outside for longer, exposing yourself to more UV.

Devaki · 21/04/2019 21:05

Yes I have. 2 of the Dc are olived skinned and don't burn easily however dd2 is much fairer - so I just put it on them all.

MrsTumbletap · 21/04/2019 21:08

Yes of course, it's roasting here today (SE England) I have slightly sunburnt legs too.

MarshaBradyo · 21/04/2019 21:09

Yep on all three

MarshaBradyo · 21/04/2019 21:10

Plus the two fairest wore hats

Mamimawr · 21/04/2019 21:13

Yes, they've been out playing all day so factor 50 on both children.

redbedheadd · 21/04/2019 21:13

My DS is mixed race but I'd still always put cream on him if there's any sun... why risk preventable sun damage when it takes 60 seconds.

Scotinoz · 21/04/2019 21:14

Yes, all weekend. Kids were on the beach all day yesterday and the garden today. Sun is out, they're exposing a reasonable amount of bare skin and outdoors, so sunscreen is on 🤷🏼‍♀️

Amazed at the scientific methods people use to determine sunscreen requirement 😅

phobiafreak · 21/04/2019 21:15

Yes coated in the stuff and periodically sprayed with it when I could grab a hold of him long enough as he ran past me playing.
