My daughter is 40 weeks pregnant so due any time, she has the midwife today and they are going to do a sweep what are the chances of her going into labour? And should I have an afternoon nap?

If you want an afternoon nap then have one.

6demandingchildren · 21/04/2019 12:59

I don't want a wasted nap and have trouble sleeping tonight if nothing happens, what's the chances of something happening? She had the midwife at 7:30pm

It varies for different women - ive known some to go to labour quickly and some for it not to do much.
Take yourself to bed - set maybe an hour alarm. Its still early enough if nothing happens you could just go to bed a bit later.

I has about a million sweeps and they did nothing, but surely a nap is never wasted! Have a nap!

SpoonBlender · 21/04/2019 13:14

What a curious question. Even if something does happen, you'd be woken by the call.
Nap time is never wasted.

AnneLovesGilbert · 21/04/2019 13:18

When you get the option, always have a nap.

Good luck to you daughter! It’s boiling here so I hope she’s not too uncomfortable.

6demandingchildren · 21/04/2019 13:20

I might have a series of power naps, this is daughters first and she is full of questions and constant messaging. I wish I had all the answers.

it's not common for a sweep to do anything. I wouldn't have a nap unless you want one.

99calmbeforethestorm · 21/04/2019 13:38

Are you her birth partner? First labours often take days.

6demandingchildren · 21/04/2019 13:45

Yes me and her DH are too be at the birth and my DH is on standby

A sweep will only really move things along if they weren’t far off anyway.

Just go about everything as normal, with your phone close by, and have a nap if you’d normally want/have one, not otherwise - or you’re potentially setting yourself up for up to two weeks of this! Kid hasn’t got a calendar in there Wink Good luck to your DD; I do hope your GC is here soon.

ReginaGeorgeous · 21/04/2019 15:51

I'm 40+2 and had two sweeps so far and they've achieved nothing. Didn't work when I had my first either, have a nap.

Paddington68 · 21/04/2019 15:52

It's what Jesus wants you to do.

6demandingchildren · 21/04/2019 15:55

Ate half an Easter egg and had a nap, woke up to the washing machine on and DH hanging the first load out (I forgot about it)

I was so right to have a nap, the midwife said daughter is already 2cm, then did the sweep.
I think I'm too excited for another nap

SofaSurfer20 · 21/04/2019 20:40

Theres always time for a nap. Unless you have a young child. Then theres never time.

Nap.

Im tired 😴

6demandingchildren · 21/04/2019 21:07

Do you think it will happen tonight? I have never had a sweep so I don't know

Mum2lots · 21/04/2019 21:26

Ohhhhhh how fab my daughter is 38 weeks and was very uncomfortable today xx all the signs of very early labour. She has just left to go home with DP who was at work today I'm settled for a early night just in case

6demandingchildren · 21/04/2019 21:30

She is having cramp like pains.
This will be our 6th grandchild but our first grandson, and she is our only daughter.

Sweeps don’t make things move any faster than they would without; they just (sometimes) ‘kick start’ if things were already imminent.

ilovebronn · 21/04/2019 22:11

I've had two naps today and I don't know anyone that's about to give birth Grin

BackforGood · 21/04/2019 23:24

two ? That's impressive ilovebronn Grin

I'm a big fan of a nap. Certainly don't need to wait for an imminent birth to have one.

WobbleTime · 21/04/2019 23:28

The answer is yes. Have a nap. Always.
Good luck with the baby, hope he is here soon!

donajimena · 21/04/2019 23:31

I had a nap today too. Everyone who is in a position to should have one.
