DS13 not allowed vest type tops , no sports wear/joggers unless actually playing sport - only exception is if he is just chilling at home ( if he goes out he has to change into jeans)

DD10 not allowed earings until she's 11 ( rule was originally 13 but she wore me down!) and no crop tops unless she wears a vest top under it. Leggings only to be worn under shorts or with a long tunic top. Can't stand the leggings and t shirt look. Also the sportswear rule applies to her too.

cricketmum84 · 19/04/2019 18:22

@gotmychocolateimgood totally agree with you on bikinis. They just look so wrong on children.

RubberTreePlant · 19/04/2019 18:24

Will someone explain what is actually wrong with football shirts?

Shiny, unbreathable, nylon, plastered with advertising.

NerrSnerr · 19/04/2019 18:32

I do agree about the advertising, but some football teams don't have advertising on children's shirts. I don't think Everton do and we have a few foreign shirts that don't either. National teams tend not to either.

DrCoconut · 19/04/2019 18:32

Football tops (luckily my DC don't like football), naff slogans - mummy's little monster etc. Not a big fan of army related stuff either - camouflage or "new recruit" type slogans look horrible on little kids.

Al2O3 · 19/04/2019 18:33

A combination of a pair of diving flippers, tutu, plastic lifesaving ring, huge falsh eyelashes, a deer-stalker with a military grade flamethrower to add a dash of panache.

HairycakeLinehan · 19/04/2019 18:34

I don’t get all the “no sport wear unless doing sport”, aren’t children by nature active? Running, climbing, cartwheeling etc?

Picklypickles · 19/04/2019 18:35

I quite often have to convince my 7yr old daughter that a swimming suit and sandals is not appropriate winter attire for the great outdoors. Other than that my children choose most of their own clothes within reason, I do try to steer them away from hideous luminous colours and animal prints etc!!

AguerosAngel · 19/04/2019 18:35

Manchester United kit. I’d never let him wear one EVER, never mind in public!

FaFoutis · 19/04/2019 18:36

You can get vegan 'fish' fingers for the hat. They are disgusting though.

SleepingSloth · 19/04/2019 18:36

DS13 not allowed vest type tops , no sports wear/joggers unless actually playing sport - only exception is if he is just chilling at home ( if he goes out he has to change into jeans)

Confused How old will he be when he can choose to go out in joggers if he wants to? 16...18..when he moves out? This seems overly controlling.

Beamur · 19/04/2019 18:37

I don't really mind.
However, many moons ago I came home from work to find DH had dressed DD in what he thought were leggings, they were pink footless tights. She looked half naked.
I would have preferred that look not to have left the house.

lanbro · 19/04/2019 18:37

Dds 5 & 7 can pretty much choose what they wear day to day so long as suitable for what we're doing...I buy all their clothes so limited in their choices!

I wouldn't buy them bikinis, crop tops, high heels but pretty much anything else goes

TriarFuck · 19/04/2019 18:39

Completely agree with @Heratnumber7

AngelsWithSilverWings · 19/04/2019 18:45

@SleepingSloth when he pays for his own clothes he can wear what he likes!

I forgot the other exception - they can wear joggers when we are camping.

I have strong opinions about dressing appropriately. If he's out playing sports or cycling etc he can wear joggers. Going shopping , going to visit friends or family or going out to a restaurant he has to wear proper clothes.

littlemeitslyn · 19/04/2019 18:46

Fish finger hat ?! What fresh hell is this ????

SleepingSloth · 19/04/2019 18:50

AngelsWithSilverWings

How would you feel if someone told you how to dress? Does someone tell you how to dress?

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 19/04/2019 18:50

Sportswear unless actually doing something sporty. Crocs or similar unless on the beach or poolside. Not keen on earrings or army stuff either. They can choose to pierce themselves once 18 if they so wish.

cuntychopsishungry · 19/04/2019 18:58

Any of the shite that MIL & SIL buy them 🤦🏽‍♀️

Honestly, it’s the biggest pile of chavtastic tat EVER!

They’re hell bent on making my DDs princesses. They buy the lot, everything fluffy, baby pink, tutus, headbands with massive bows on, jewellery etc, some of this stuff is less than 50p brand new (cheers amazon). Each to their own but I can’t bear to put my babies in this stuff. They’re babies not, they like comfy babygrows they can relax in.
Rant over 😂

ExpletiveDelighted · 19/04/2019 18:59

Shiny, unbreathable, nylon, plastered with advertising..

They are made out of fully breathable performance fabric and are about the most practical clothing imaginable. Virtually dry from the washing machine, repel dirt, never need ironing, no getting sweaty like cotton tee shirts, can be washed hundreds of times and still be like brand new, football shirts are brilliant for kids.

Youngandfree · 19/04/2019 18:59

A tracksuit set 🤮
Any character clothing
Uggs
Crocs
Football jerseys
Clothing with their names on it
Tops with writing like “mummy’s angel” or “I woke up amazing type shite🤮

cuntychopsishungry · 19/04/2019 19:00

*babies not dolls

Got over excited and hit post too soon

sharpstick · 19/04/2019 19:03

I agree with a pp about some people being uptight! Football tops and joggers????

I’m probably going to massively go against the grain, but I can’t bear character clothing, and also anything too young and babyish on older children. I have a friend with two girls aged 6 and 11 and they are often identically dressed. IMO the 11 year old looks ridiculous dressed the same as the 6 year old.

That said, I wouldn’t allow my 11 year old dd to wear anything sexualised, though I don’t see the harm in a longer crop top or more covered up bikini on holiday.

And crocs. Not ever. No.

Miltonroad · 19/04/2019 19:04

A P*rtsmouth shirt 🤮

LightDrizzle · 19/04/2019 19:07

Anything with the Playboy bunny logo.
I’d never buy anything with “Princess” or “Diva” emblazoned on it.
