What’s your most magical moment in life?

Apart from having kids or getting married.

Mine was a few years ago seeing a whole field of fireflies in the USA at dusk. The air around me was lit up with their little green lights. It took my breath away and I burst into tears Blush it was so unexpected and so beautiful I don’t think anything else will ever come close.

Would love to hear what others moments are.

As we are excluding having our own children, then I will say hearing my grand-daughter's first cry after a very quick, peaceful labour at home. It was only a couple of weeks ago so even typing this is making me well up.

Driving through the Oz outback to Alice Springs. The scenery was fabulous.

Sitting in the jump seat in the cockpit of an Air France jumbo plane as it landed at Charles De Gaulle Airport. It was a vivid blue skies day with big fluffy white clouds. As we descended we were racing through the blue with the clouds parting like the lightest of curtains. With the wrap around cockpit windows the full view made me feel like I was flying. Still feels like a dream.

This was around 25 years ago before our world sadly changed and people were no longer allowed to visit the cockpit.

Watching the sun rise whilst swimming in my local lido last summer solstice.

Sleepinglemon · 17/04/2019 19:01

Being on a boat in the Whit Sunday islands at dusk as dolphins swam laps around us jumping in and out of the water.

MrsGrannyWeatherwax · 17/04/2019 19:03

A morning run on a ship with the sunrise and dolphins jumping

Ah these all sound so amazing! On my bucket list is to see the aurora borealis but I’m not sure if it can beat the field of fireflies. I’m taking the kids to the USA next year to hopefully find them again- but it’s very weather dependent.

Snorkelling and scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. We snorkeled leisurely for about 4 hours and then went on a glass bottom boat ride where we saw a giant sea turtle and some sharks. On the way back to shore, we went past a group of humpback whales meandering in the Pacific Ocean. Ut was a truly magical day....

Being inside the tombs at the Valley of The Kings.

Better than I ever hoped it could be

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2019 19:21

Whale watching in the US, long trip out to sea but so worth it.

Flying from Nice airport to the hotel in Monte Carlo by helicopter.

RagamuffinCat · 17/04/2019 19:22

Standing near a lake in Norway, close to Geirangerfjord. It was so truly beautiful that it took my breath away.

Wineloffa · 17/04/2019 19:23

Being on Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsunday Islands about 20 years ago. There was hardly anyone on it and the sand was so white and the sky was so blue it took my breath away.

LindsayDentonsWineBottle · 17/04/2019 19:25

Standing at Dante’s View, Looking over Death Valley. The wind was ferocious, but the sheer expanse of the valley was breathtaking.

Drinking brandy on the roof a canal boat in the South of France.

Ok this seems daft in comparison to some. DH and I had our honeymoon 3 years late due to young dc at the time.

We had 3 days in the Lake District, staying at L’enclume. The tasting menu was so good I cried.

Lozz22 · 17/04/2019 19:33

Walking down Main Street in Magic Kingdom and seeing Cinderella's castle. Always Makes me well up no matter how many times I've walked down there

MrsPatmore · 17/04/2019 19:39

So many 'moments' , mostly in nature, but not many recently due to being too busy and over tired. A memorable time was travelling on a sleeper train through Vietnam, listening to Joni Mitchell, watching the sun rise over the mountains. Felt so free and unburdened.

BareBelliedSneetch · 17/04/2019 19:42

Watching the sun rise after a clear night in the observatory, with the cloud in the valley below us.

That, or the cheese board at an amazing French restaurant.

RosieposiePuddingandPi · 17/04/2019 19:44

Hearing the lone piper on the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle at the military tattoo. We've watched it every year for 15 years now and it always gives me shivers.

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 17/04/2019 19:46

Apart from marriage and children mine is graduating from university.

I started the course when eldest DD was a year old and worked my socks off despite everyone telling me I'd fail. Graduated on time and proudly with a 2:1 and now considering doing a masters.

TwirlyWitch · 17/04/2019 19:48

There seems to be a travelling theme here!

@DDIJ I don’t expect everyone has “magical” moments but when you do...Shock

Watching Kimi.Raikkonen cross the line first at the Belgian Grand prix in 2005.

DuesToTheDirt · 17/04/2019 19:50

First view of Machu Picchu in the distance, twinkling and magical.

Violetparis · 17/04/2019 19:52

Being in a car on a road right next to the sea in Florida, gazing out of the window and seeing a dolphin jump in the water.
