What’s your most magical moment in life?

Apart from having kids or getting married.

Mine was a few years ago seeing a whole field of fireflies in the USA at dusk. The air around me was lit up with their little green lights. It took my breath away and I burst into tears Blush it was so unexpected and so beautiful I don’t think anything else will ever come close.

Would love to hear what others moments are.

Being in the showroom and picking my new car. The sense of accomplishment that I could buy this and really do this was magical

jitterbugintomybrain · 17/04/2019 22:43

Seeing Coldplay in LA whilst on an amazing holiday touring California.

Happyspud · 17/04/2019 22:49

Sitting on the peak of a dune in the Gobi desert with a vodka. We hadn’t seen a soul for days other than our guides.

Rollindowntheroad · 17/04/2019 22:54

Walking down a road in Zanzibar where there was no electricity and looking up to see a sky full of stars and shooting ones.

Sitting in a shack with just an oil lamp on a sandy beach revising for my PADI exam - I felt shipwrecked!

MamaMary · 17/04/2019 22:56

Attending Lutheran Mass in St Thomas Kirche, Leipzig, and listening to Bach being sung.

SecretWitch · 17/04/2019 22:59

July night in Yellowstone National Park. My boyfriend and I in sleeping bags, holding hands and gazing at the night sky. Millions of stars, many shooting stars. Time stood still. I knew I loved this man deep in my soul. I still get shivers thinking about it.

SecretWitch · 17/04/2019 23:06

Btw, so many of these moments have touched me. Thanks for sharing✨

McMole · 17/04/2019 23:06

Driving at night on the Big Island of Hawaii after visiting the active volcano, stopping the car in a deserted area and looking up at so many stars. More than you'd ever see from somewhere like here, with all the light pollution. It was amazing.

MorrisZapp · 17/04/2019 23:06

Seeing Crowded House at the Greek Theatre in LA. It's a smallish venue, outdoor, completely surrounded by trees. Unbelievable.

Penguinpandarabbit · 17/04/2019 23:06

Also buying a thatched cottage, always wanted a thatched cottage with a beautiful garden since a young child as my aunt had one and I thought it was the most wonderful house and garden ever.

We bought our own last year and everyday I look out at the thatch and the beautiful garden and think how lucky I am. The cat hasn't stopped purring since we got here so she must love it too.

Wow, these are very lovely and moving.

On the way home from the beach in Northumberland. Sun was going down and we were driving past the dunes of Bamburgh beach. I asked DH to stop as I wanted to get a photo. We pulled in, I climbed to the top of a dune and the breath just left my body... I couldn't take in what I could see: the empty beach stretching for miles, the castle silhouetted at the far end and the sky had gone completely scarlet. Just awe inspiring.

The Cuillin mountains from Elgol.

BasiliskStare · 17/04/2019 23:15

Put children etc to one side - little dog ( border terrier) sleeping next to me with his big brown eyes and snuffly breathing & occasionally an extended paw. It's lovely. Of course horse riding in Hawaii was good as well ( & it was ) Not sure I would swap for little dog snuggling up of a night. Grin I am a woman of simple tastes but get the magical moment most nights.

WhatshouldIpay · 17/04/2019 23:20

Seeing a wild tiger who came within 15 feet of the jeep I was sitting in. Magical!

Monr0e · 18/04/2019 08:07

Just remember a couple more. On honeymoon in Sri Lanka we went to the elephant orphanage. Standing at the side of the road waiting for our first glimpse of them, a baby elephant trotted out first followed by a whole herd who wandered stately past us. Apparently my whole face lit up and I was like a three year old, so moved and excited.

Another was a hot air balloon ride over the masai marathon at dawn. The balloon pilot turned off the thing that makes it float (sorry, no idea of the name!) and it was completely silent. He said this is what the angels hear. Beautiful moment.

Our holidays now consist of camping in north Wales so it's nice to remember these moments!

Getting my first freelance commission. I'd worked in awful jobs for years and years and gave up on my career dreams for a long time. A friend of mine then enlisted my help for a very prestigious freelance role but when I actually started pitching my ideas to people, that first acceptance was absolutely amazing. It was like the veil of self-doubt had been lifted and I was actually capable of doing the job of my dreams.

Ragwort · 18/04/2019 08:19

Certainly wasn’t my wedding day or giving birth Grin.

I have two very different examples, the first is when I visited Yosemite National Park the first time, it is a most amazing place, I’ve been back once since but hope to go at least one more time.

Another time was in the days you could accompany your DH on business trips, we were booked into the most luxurious, upmarket hotel I have ever been to in my life, in New York, can’t recall the name of it now but even 30 years later my DH says he can remember the look on my face when we walked in. Our usual holidays were camping or youth hostelling Grin.

I live in Edinburgh. Was out for an evening drive once with my ex, and I wanted to go to South Queensferry to sit under the bridges. It was a beautiful evening, just beginning to get dark.

There was nobody about when all of a sudden an empty coach pulled up in front of us. It's door opened and out tumbled a bride in full white finery, and her new husband. They ran quickly to the most dramatic vantage point they could find, and the driver took a photo of them. Then they ran back onto the coach and it pulled away.

I was sitting in an absolute daze watching this. My ex broke the atmosphere by saying 'I think they must have just got married' or something similarly fucking hopeless.

Reader, I binned him.

Mississippilessly · 18/04/2019 08:47

Hm is tough!

Swimming in the Indian Ocean with DH on Christmas Day having just found out I was expecting.

Driving through Monument Valley. The sheer size of it.

Walking above the clouds climbing Mount Meru, Tanzania, then seeing a giraffe on our way down.

Driving by Mont Blanc in our little convertible.

Sledging on Hamsptead Heath.

The first time a pupil referred me to me as a teacher. The buzz was amazing.

Thank you for.this thread. I can be a miserable cow and looking back life has treated me pretty well!

Guylian2019 · 18/04/2019 08:52

New Zealand - swimming with a pod of 200 dusky dolphins.

New Zealand - seeing killer whales.

Walking in the hills off Queenstown New Zealand. The sky was rather grey. Suddenly the clouds 'opened'. The sky behind the clouds was turquoise. The sun was behind too and shone brightly. It was the most incredible view from above a beautiful place and the sky nearly made me cry because it was so stunning.

Las Vegas at night from the observation wheel.

Sunset at Uluru.

Sunrise in the Australian outback.

One particular night with a group of friends where we laughed so hard we all were crying with laughter.

^ I lived in Queenstown back in the 90s / early 2000s and its breathtaking. So many magical moments there, notably DD and I went up in a helicopter onto the top of the Remarkables, amazing scenery.

In February, DD (20) and I went to Brisbane (AUS), had drinks overlooking the Brisbane sunset on the rooftop bar.

DD did not walk until she was 19 months old, it was pure joy.

Watching my best friend get married (who had been through so much heartache) with my DD as flower girl.

80sMum · 18/04/2019 09:14

For me, it has to be walking down into the Grand Canyon and across to the other side. It took 2 days.

beela · 18/04/2019 09:37

I love reading all of these, but especially the magical moments that come out of every day moments, rather than the moments you expect to be special, iyswim.

Catchingbentcoppers · 18/04/2019 10:41

Sitting watching the Northern Lights in the north of Scotland.

A day with friends on a boat island hopping on Loch Lomond one summer. It was such a beautiful day and I felt so relaxed and happy.

underneaththeash · 18/04/2019 10:46

Mine was attending the opening ceremony of the London Olympic Games in 2012. I was in tears most of the time, it felt like such a privelidge to be there.

Penguinpandarabbit · 18/04/2019 10:53

One boy in DS's class had his Dad killed in a hit and run when he was 9. The boy had Aspergers like my little boy and when there was an online fund for them I sent some money saying it was for her son from my son. Next time this boy saw me he beamed the biggest smile, waved at me and shouted 200 metres up the road Hello DSs Mum never haven spoken to me before. It was lovely knowing had made him happy even if just briefly at such a hard time for them.
