What constitutes a large family for you?

I have 4 children and I am often told what a large family I have.

However I know many with 4 children several with 5 and some with 6 8 and 10 children so for me I feel that our family is above average but not large.

I put this question on a facebook forum I am on for families with 4 or more children. I thought it could be fun to see what MN people feel too.

5+ IMO.

gamerwidow · 17/04/2019 18:24

3 or more children are a large family.
3 is pushing the edge of normal size if you have 4 you've definitely got a large family whether you think you do or not.

The other forum I asked this on (4 or more children) have agreed that 6-7+ makes for a large family Grin

MustardScreams · 17/04/2019 20:48

3+ for me I think. But I only have one so even 2 seems like a large family right now!

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 17/04/2019 20:52

I have 5 (+2 now adult stepchildren)

Anything over 6 seems large to me. Also, I'm on the same group, must go and answer the poll! Grin

fleshmarketclose · 17/04/2019 20:52

I'm one of six and have five children so to me five and above is a large family.

DowntonCrabby · 17/04/2019 20:54

I’d say 3+ is a bigger family.
Growing up I’d have said 4+

Jolonglegs · 17/04/2019 20:56

We consider 3 or more children to be a large family. Two people creating another two people doesn't increase the world population. I don't to offend anyone, but the world population is too large as it is.

Holidayshopping · 17/04/2019 20:56

4 or more children.

managedmis · 17/04/2019 20:56

4 or more.

DramaAlpaca · 17/04/2019 20:56

I think five or more. I have three, but know several families with four so it seems normal-ish to me.

Bookworm4 · 17/04/2019 20:58

I have 4, which is plenty, I do look at 6 and think yikes 😁

HalfBloodPrincess · 17/04/2019 21:07

I’m about to have my 4th. I grew up with 3 sisters, my aunts and uncles all had 4 children each so I guess I’ve always seen 4 children as normal.

One of my sisters has 1 child and the other 2 are child free by choice, so going by the 1.9 children average, my brood evens us out Grin

Middledistancerunner · 17/04/2019 21:09

but the world population is too large as it is.
Yes, but the UK population (without immigration to top it up) shrinking.
We used to have an average of 2.4 children, now it’s 1.8.
So I’ll have my four children in the UK and you can have your two children somewhere over populated Grin

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 17/04/2019 21:21

3 and above.

dinoegg · 17/04/2019 21:25

I think 5 and above is large. 4 seems normal to me, but that large end of normal haha

Purpleartichoke · 17/04/2019 21:32

3 or more children

Limer · 17/04/2019 21:33

In the UK nowadays, with access to modern contraception, 3 or above is large.

100 years ago, 6 or above was large.

Angelinthenightx · 17/04/2019 21:37

8+ is large to me.

gairytoes · 17/04/2019 21:40

3+ for me too.

Thegreymethod · 17/04/2019 21:40

3 is above average, 4+ is large and enough to raise eyebrows especially if they aren't from the better parts of town. (Dd has a friend who was one of 8, now 9 I'm told and the family were demanding to be rehoused)

What? Raise eyebrows? You know you sound really judgemental don't you? Hmm

Redpostbox · 17/04/2019 21:44

4 seems normal. I would say 5 or more is a big family.

Chimchar · 17/04/2019 21:56

I would say 4 or more kids.
Although, we have 3 kids, and now they're all big, and one has a partner who is always with us, we FEEL like a big family when we go out places because there are loads of us and we're always in the way!

Mykingdomforanickname · 17/04/2019 22:04

4+ children is a large family to me.
