Weirdest thing youve found in your new home?

Just been talking to a friend who got the keys to her new home yesterday and it got me thinking it'd be a good monday afternoon thread..probably done before but 🤷‍♀️.

For us, when we moved in it became clear very quickly that the guy who lived there before was a bit of a bodge it and scarper...

Anyway, there was a strange smell in the bathroom. We assumed it was because the previous family had a carpet in a small bathroom that probably got damp. 3 weeks in we finally had the new flooring delivered so went to rip up the carpet.. had to remove the bath panel and there was our shock... the bath wasnt fixed to the floor at all, instead it was just sat there on a whole hay bale!!! How it didnt move and break the silicone seal when we got in and out is still a mystery to this day!!!

When we were redecorating our new house, we found that the previous owner had nailed wallpaper to the wall at the top and bottom rather than pasting it on... Hmm

A bag of weed, on top of a kitchen cupboard.

We were going to knock down a wall to make a new room and found a stash of cheesgraters in an old briefcase

Our vendor left a massive broken wardrobe behind and about 30 quarter-full tins of manky old paint. The carpets were greasy in all the places we hadn't been able to see before. Manky and skanky.

In our built in wardrobe at the bottom is a drawer. We took it out to find hidden underneath a photo of a women and a love letter Blush

Whilst knocking down a wall we found a very old map of the town we had moved from (in a different county!). That was a bit spooky!

We have a winner....

Four very skimpy thongs behind the radiator in the kitchen. I found one and they kept coming out a bit like magicians’ scarves.

Nailing wallpaper instead of pasting is an ingenious idea! Grin

Not me but in my mum and dad’s house the previous owners had been DIYers and had put a toilet in under the stairs themselves...but not connected it to any waste pipes. The cellar area under the floor was full of raw sewage 😱 they had to get industrial pumps to pump it all out. And it had gone under next door as well 🤮 this was about 30 years ago so maybe the surveys weren’t very thorough!?

BlueMerchant · 15/04/2019 15:49

Behind old boarded up fireplace 4 unopened pot noodles from years ago and arranged around them 4 opened cans of ancient Carling lager.

Twolipstulips · 15/04/2019 15:51

A hole in the floorboards of the living room filled in with a paint tin lid. Why the hole was there and how it was exactly the right size for a paint tin lid we will never know.

Potentially outing and I have put it on here before but we found a stuffed baby shark in our downstairs toilet when we moved in. Turned out the dad of the family had been quite the traveller and liked to send things back to the son. It was gross. It lived in the shed for a while before my dh finally got rid!

Pinkyyy · 15/04/2019 16:24

Ooh, I live these threads! I feel so annoyed that I never find any weird stuff :(

Whatifoundinmygarage · 15/04/2019 16:27

A rare (but tatty and not worth much) sports car left in the garage.

We found a micky mouse toy. More like ornament but plastic under the garden decking. We are the 2nd owners of this house and previous said they'd never seen it. Anyway we put it in a box frame and he's on the wall as you walk through the front door with the original door keys.

ElektraUnchained · 15/04/2019 17:39

A bowl of googly eyes. I plan on using them to prank someone at some point.

A nice carving knife that had been left in the dishwasher!

lostinlego · 15/04/2019 17:46

3 big boxes of tenna lady in the loft (came in handy when we accidently put a nail through a water pipe!) And a van windscreen which we couldn't work out how they even got up there. Also a while later whilst getting a new boiler fitted the plumber found a stash of porn magazines under the floor boards in the airing cupboard!
