Airport hotel. What to do for best?

We return from our holiday 2am but our airport is an hour or so away from home.Do we get a taxi home which would be cheaper but we'd be knackered or stay at airport hotel which is £122 inc breakfast but we'd only be there for 8 hours in total. Both have their plus points but option A is a ball ache and option B is expensive. 🤔

Hotel if it was the start of the holiday but you’ll be knackered, and just want to get home, so I’d say taxi.

CoolAsACourgette · 15/04/2019 11:23

Taxi, definitely. I'd much prefer to stick my luggage in a taxi, doze on the way home then roll into bed and have a lie in rather than drag my stuff to the hotel, check in, have to wake up early for breakfast then face the hour drive home again.

AnnPerkins · 15/04/2019 11:25

I would go for Option A. It is a ballache but you can fall straight into your own bed and sleep late next day instead of having to get up and travel two hours.

With Option A you could have your first lot of washing on the line before you would even have even unpacked with Option B Grin

stucknoue · 15/04/2019 11:31

Taxi, prebook ideally. Wake up in your own bed

SilverGoldBronze · 15/04/2019 11:34

Taxi definitely. Then you get a lie in in your own bed.

TipseyTorvey · 15/04/2019 11:36

Taxi 100%, just push on through and be done with it. Then wake up in your own home instead of repacking the case with all the overnight stuff.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 15/04/2019 11:40

Forgot to say we wouldn't be driving back df will collect us from hotel

If it’ll only take about an hour to get home in a taxi (and the roads will be very quiet at that time in the morning) I would go home.
It will save you money plus you’ve still got the hassle of getting home the next day.

reallybadidea · 15/04/2019 11:42

If you get a taxi home then presumably you'll need a taxi on the way there as well?

Tbh unless it's very long haul I'd just drive home, it's only an hour and you'll be able to snooze on the plane anyway.

ThisIsTheEndgame · 15/04/2019 11:48

Taxi, have you factored in being delayed for a few hours, a long wait at passport control and baggage etc? Your 8 hours in hotel could be half that or less.

Kez200 · 15/04/2019 11:49

We used a B and B for holiday car parking and stayed the night on our return, rather than on going out.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 15/04/2019 11:49

I think I'm in 2 minds because if for any reason taxi was late or didn't show we'd be stuck,no driving either way as getting lift way there

OP posts:
notacooldad · 15/04/2019 11:52

I would be going home.
I like to have a hotel the night before if I'm on early flight, it adds to the holiday but I'd want to go home.

If the taxi was late or no show you would ring them and tell them to hurry up or book another one.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 15/04/2019 11:54

Thanks everyone I'm going to mull it over some more

Just go home. Airport hotels are a pain - unless it's a very short walk to the hotel you'll have to get a taxi and check in at gone 2am. It's more stressful than it sounds.

There will be no traffic on the roads at that hour so a quick journey home and fall into bed. Sleep late and stay in pjs for half the day. If you can, get an online shop with a few extra nice breakfast items arranged for the morning you get back too. It makes you feel like your holiday isn't a
distant memory!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 15/04/2019 12:28

I'd go home. Airport hotels are a bit grim and people will be arriving and leaving at all hours pulling luggage around to get flights so you won't sleep well.

If the taxi didn't arrive, you'd call and they'd get another to you - but that's never happened to me and I often get very early morning taxis!

IkickedtheBigC · 15/04/2019 12:41

Definitely straight home.
If your flight is delayed at all, you may not even get to the hotel!

MarthasGinYard · 15/04/2019 12:43

Straight home

Stiffasaboard · 15/04/2019 12:48

Am surprised you are even considering a hotel
Who could be bothered with unpacking pyjamas and sleeping in a strange (probably noisy) hotel room only to get up and get going again the next day

Go home. Sleep in your own bed and have a lie in and easy morning the next day

Ring the cab company as soon as you land to check they are coming/waiting and if not just get another cab at the airport or call an Uber etc. It’s hardly like airports are unknown places for a taxi to get to!

I’ve never had a cab not turn up when I’ve prebooked it for an airport collection btw.

FinallyHere · 15/04/2019 12:50

I would hate to be stuck in a hotel knowing I was only an hours drive from hone.

Love being away but home really is best

RomaineCalm · 15/04/2019 12:51

Just get home. Agree with PP that a night in a hotel is lovely before your holiday but on the way back it's a pain.

Depending on the airport/home you could be checking in at 3am just as people are up and about for early flights. I'd much rather be home in my own bed with nothing to get up for in the morning.

If PIL no longer need to pick you up at the airport could you ask them to put some nice breakfast stuff in your fridge so that it's there ready when you get up? Smile

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 15/04/2019 12:53

I’ve never had a cab not turn up when I’ve prebooked it for an airport collection btw.

I have - when I flew out in December, and returned in January. They somehow managed to book it for the January of the previous year in their diary!

I was so so so tired for various reasons, that I burst into tears on the phone when he told me! He left immediately and got to the airport in record time though...

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 15/04/2019 12:54

But yeah - OP, just go home. You won't regret waking up in your own beds.

(TBH I'd probably use the second wind of 'happy to be home' to get a load of washing on, so it was finished when I got up and the next one could go on! Unpacking is the worst!)

ShirleyPhallus · 15/04/2019 12:57

Beware airport hotels - while some are in the terminal I’ve stayed in the Stansted Hilton which was a good 20 min drive away and was like prison

100% get a cab home

UCOinanOCG · 15/04/2019 13:03

How much is the taxi compared with the hotel?
