Who is your celebrity that you will mourn..

Mine is Meat Loaf, Paul Weller and Bob Dylan

I will genuinely cry when they die.

It will be a dreadful day when we don't have David Attenborough walking amongst us any more. Love, love that man and what he's done for the environment.

I was totally pole axed by the death of David Bowie and never even really considered myself a huge fan. I couldn't stop crying and it shook me up massively that I could care so much about a total stranger. As others have said, you can be very surprised at how these things will effect you until they do.

Rabbitmug · 15/04/2019 19:02

As an aside, I find it strange that a couple of posters maintain that they've never been affected by a public person's death...

This might sound even odder in that light but I find it really upsetting seeing Notre Dame in flames right now, why a building? I don't know, the history, the symbolic meaning? It's all part of our collective culture of care and conscience - so sad it's really making me upset.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 15/04/2019 19:06

When Dick van Dyke dies, I will be devastated...

HeronLanyon · 15/04/2019 19:15

Notre Dame is a disaster. Shocking. I have shed some tears at the awful loss. Really upsetting.

Grumpbum123 · 15/04/2019 19:15

David Attenborough is the only one I will feel genuine sadness over, still won’t be liningthe street though

nelsonmuntzslingshot · 15/04/2019 19:17

Mine was Robin Williams. I remember watching Good Will Hunting with DH the night the news came out that he had died and just crying

lljkk · 15/04/2019 19:43

No one I can think of as someone to mourn when they die.
Closest I can get to mourning (right now), is how Barak Obama's legacy has been gutted by his successor. It's so petty, among other travesties.

I might end up mourning the decline of the US and British constitutions, traditions of prioritising rule of law & protecting minority rights being trampled all over by populism.

HeronLanyon · 15/04/2019 19:54

I also add David Bowie - went straight to heddon street with flowers. Proper loss. Sorry for drip feed here.

Chickenwing · 15/04/2019 19:54

Freddie Mercury

ewenice · 15/04/2019 20:04

I cried a lot when David Bowie died - I grew up with his music. I knew I'd be sad but was actually surprised at how upset I was.

Will also be v sad when Debbie Harry dies.

Elderflower14 · 15/04/2019 20:10

I was devastated when David Bowie died. I had a moment with him in 1995. He was sitting in front of me at a Christies Auction. I was gazing round as was he and he gave me a wonderful smile. I thought blimey you don't half look like David Bowie. I looked again and noticed his eyes. I realised it WAS DB and promptly slid down my chair in shock which made him laugh..... I didn't dare ask for his autograph for fear of bidding on something...

NewAndImprovedNorks · 15/04/2019 20:13

elderflower that is just a PERFECT story. Do you tell everybody you meet...I really would

Elderflower14 · 15/04/2019 20:15

Johnnie Walker read it out on Sounds of The 70s after DB died and I emailed him the story.

Pinkarsedfly · 15/04/2019 20:50

Elderflower I love your story so much I just read it three times on the trot.

I sobbed my heart out when David Bowie died, and I have a tiny little tribute tattoo - an Aladdin Sane flash inside a black star.

Elderflower14 · 15/04/2019 21:01

I had gone to see some Lowry paintings being sold. I was lucky enough to be in the third row.
When they had sold there was a changeover of people and thats when DB sat down.

CaptainJaneway62 · 15/04/2019 21:51

Oh Elderflower14 what lovely story
They've already gone and I loved em all just been listening to Freddie and David singing Under Pressure on YouTube...
Freddie Mercury
David Bowie
George Michael
Robin Williams
Dale Winton

SnipSnipMrBurgess · 15/04/2019 22:02

David Jason for me too. He looks so much like my father, he used to get stopped on the street and asked for autographs. I've not been able to watch anything with him in it since my dad passed.

HoraceCope · 15/04/2019 23:06

I also think what we regard as younger, ie Mel Smith, comes as a shock.

Wauden · 16/04/2019 12:52

Not a person, but I did cry a bit about Notre Dame.

unicornsrule · 16/04/2019 12:53

Lost mine too

Michael jackson and george michael

slipperywhensparticus · 16/04/2019 12:57

Freddy mercury, David attenborough the queen Terry pratchett maybe Stephen king but I have a love hate relationship with his books so I'm not sure if I would miss him maybe if he had died before the dark tower was finished I would but 🤷‍♀️

PenguindreamsofDraco · 16/04/2019 13:11

I cried when Terry Wogan died. Proper full on sobbing. I think it was the link with my parents.

TheMightyToosh · 16/04/2019 13:17

I still 'miss' Diana, Freddie Mercury, George Michael, Terry Wigan.

I'm dreading Eric Clapton, David Jason, Dolly Parton, David Attenborough and the Queen.

hazzysmoozy · 16/04/2019 13:22

Beyoncé 🐝

vegpatch · 16/04/2019 13:25

Sobbed when Bowie died...still get a bit teary when I remember he's gone tbh.
Dreading David Attenborough going too...that will be a day of mourning in the Vegpatch household.
