Sky or Netflix or amazon prime?

SparklySneakers · 13/04/2019 21:35

Which is better?

I've currently got a basic sky package, broadband and pay as you go landline. The landline isnt used.

I've just started using an amazon firestick and have prime.

I've also signed up for a free trial of Netflix.

I don't watch much tv really but as a family we do watch s film once a week and the children watch various things.

My question is which package would be the best value?

I'm paying £45 for sky and despite two attempts to get the price lowered when saying I was leaving they won't reduce it further.

Prime is in the student rate of £3,99 a month

Netflix £5.99 a month

Would prime, Netflix and freeview combined be equal in choice to sky? Or is sky better?

I watch mainly old crime dramas, nothing new or exciting! Seems a lot to be paying for a few episodes of Vera and Murder, She Wrote!

We have sky and netflix,i like them both but i watch sky more.
Maybe get rid of sky & use netflix see how u get on without sky,its easy to get it back if u want it.

whitehalleve · 13/04/2019 21:53

I have all 3. I mostly watch Sky

notharryssally · 13/04/2019 21:56

Netflix. Depending on what you watch on sky, you might find now tv cheaper. We have Netflix, amazon and now tv. All for less than sky.

I have all three and mostly watch sky and Netflix.

EL468 · 13/04/2019 22:01

I have all three but use netflix the most, I think about getting rid of sky because I don't use it enough really, there's some good options on there but plenty on prime and netflix too so I don't think I'd miss it much if i did get rid

Flapdoodles · 13/04/2019 22:06

We have all 3 but this has just prompted me to cancel Amazon Prime - we just never watch it any more.

WitchyBollox · 13/04/2019 22:11

We could manage with just Netflix and prime for actual tv series but the kids and DH watch sky sports every day So we need to keep sky, I hate how expensive it is

ATowelAndAPotato · 13/04/2019 22:16

Netflix for the kids is fab. We have that and freesat, but we don’t watch sports really, so depends if you do!

NoFancyUserName · 13/04/2019 22:19

Netflix is the best imo
We have Amazon but only have it for a couple of series that DH can't live without! But Netflix is used by everyone in the house on a near daily basis

April241 · 13/04/2019 22:23

I only use Netflix, Prime and just got the 7 day free trial of Now TV so I can watch Greys. I rarely watch ordinary TV apart from Line of Duty and the odd 2-4 part drama. I like them all so far

mummabubs · 13/04/2019 22:31

We have access to all 3: we've just cancelled sky as although we watch it a lot the price is astronomical. Amazon Prime really doesn't offer much that we like (we have access to a family member's account but wouldn't buy it ourselves and have only used it two or three times). Netflix however has tonnes of brilliant stuff on it and at £8 a month for 2 screen HD access offers the best value for money in my opinion.

If it's of interest we're also looking at the basic Now TV package as it's the same price as Netflix but gives you the 10 most popular sky channels too (so the combined cost of Netflix and Now would still be less than half of what we've been paying for Sky alone).

irnbruforlife · 13/04/2019 22:43

We had all 3 and found we used Netflix and Amazon. Sky box went unused for about 6 months before it was cancelled. But also cancelled TV licence as wasn't watching BBC neither. So saved a good bit.

ketchupormayo · 13/04/2019 22:45

Netflix! I have amazon prime and it looks like there's loads on there but a lot you have to pay to rent!

stucknoue · 13/04/2019 22:49

Have all 3, but got rid of sky movies and sports

lambychops · 14/04/2019 08:56

Have sky and Netflix. I watch Netflix a lot but not so much sky. Not sure why we even have sky come to think about it...

dancingthroughthedark · 14/04/2019 09:05

Can you do as I do and have a family share. I have BT TV with a Netflix subscription included. All my family use the Netflix and can watch sport on the BT app. Student son has Prime but I can access that via our games console. Adult son has Sky but I can access this including movies again via our games console. we all pay for one service but can use all of them.

SparklySneakers · 14/04/2019 09:09

Thanks everyone. Is there a list somewhere of channels that are only available on sky?
I mainly watch alibi, drama, itv3, itv. Children watch pop but will watch anything it seems!
I'm happy with Endeavour, Morse, Murder, She Wrote, Vera, Inspector George Gently, and family films apart from Christmas when any old cheesy romantic claptrap will do Grin
I do record a lot of things to watch but rarely watch them as don't have time.

I have Now tv entertainment and kids packages plus Netflix and Prime.

Netflix used mostly. Followed by now entertainment.

Prime going to cancel as only watched one programme a week (grand tour ) and never make use of prime delivery due to our location. I don't feel there's as good a range of stuff on Prime and Netflix has massively upped their game.

Kids now is going too as they usually watch Netflix too or iplayer.

Penners99 · 14/04/2019 09:15

Netflix and Amazon for me

SparklySneakers · 14/04/2019 09:15

Just to clarify: we only have one tv and no consoles. No one watches anything on a tablet or phone. I'm grateful we all prefer being outside or books. Which is why I object to £45 a month or whatever it is.
I keep getting broadband offers from EE so will see if this is cheaper than sky.

We recently got rid of sky. We now use just Netflix and Now TV. Ds1 has student Prime but not much (i can’t actually think of anything) that I watch on there. I have Now TV for Greys, TWD and GOT). Ds2 (13) is a Netflix guro. Watch all through Xbox and don’t have a TV aerial so is all streamed.

SaskiaRembrandt · 14/04/2019 09:17

My mum doesn't have Sky, but she watches most/all of those programmes. Not sure about the children's thing though.

Just had a look, and I can get the channels you mentioned on both my Firestick and my Roku. If you can't get them on your tv without Sky, it might be worth investing in something like that - the outlay is really low (£30ish), and then you just add the channels you want to watch.

Ohhellothereladyface · 14/04/2019 09:19

We have Netflix, Amazon Prime and Now TV
Netflix is great for series, Now TV is good for films
Amazon Prime I wouldn’t rate that much to be honest

VeniVidiViciTwice · 14/04/2019 09:19

We got rid of sky (moved landline and broadband to another company also) and now have now tv stick and Netflix. I only ever watch Netflix, husband misses record/pause function but personally I would lose the now tv as well.

ImportantWater · 14/04/2019 09:19

Prime pissed me off recently by suddenly charging extra for a series I was halfway through and which had come with the subscription. As it was about the only thing I watched on Prime I have cancelled my subscription. There is not much there.
