Just noticed these red warts on my 7yo GSD lower lip :( Booked him into vet for tomorrow but I’m so worried.
He isn’t off his food and seems his usual lovely self.

They couldnt be ticks could they? I know its an unusual place to find them.

Icklepup · 09/04/2019 19:23

Ticks!

WordsFailMeAgain · 09/04/2019 19:24

@UnusualBluePenguin I don’t know, he is very long haired and I have had a feel and can’t find any others. I have literally only just noticed them tonight and we have daily cuddles so I don’t think they’ve been there long.

One of mine had a tick once but it was smaller than those unless they are all engorged.

Hard to tell from the photo

WordsFailMeAgain · 09/04/2019 19:26

Sorry I know photo isn’t great but he hates photos🤔😂

If they are tucks you need to remove them.

You can ask on local Facebook page for someone with a remover near you that you can borrow.

ifoundthebread · 09/04/2019 19:28

Are they on his actual lip, where the lower jaw meets the upper? My dog has loads of gland things like that?

WordsFailMeAgain · 09/04/2019 19:29

They are on the floppy bottom lip bit, he has bumpy lumps usually but these look very red and not normal for him

I have had GSD before but never seen this. I googled it and things about papillomas are popping up. Is this serious?

@Palominoo thank you

Warts in puppies saw like warts in kids. They get them because they have no immunity. My GR got warts like this all over his mouth and I took him to the vet in a total PANIC and the vet said very common, just like in kids and eventually his immune system kicked them and they were gone. I recall being similarly horrified, scared etc! Don't worry if it's warts it's apparently super common and the dog will be fine!

LondonSouth28 · 09/04/2019 19:41

Are not saw!

fluorescentorange · 09/04/2019 19:42

It is hard to tell, but they look like normal modules of skin that a dog will have in the inner part of their bottom lip, are they near to the jaw, you know where the bottom meets the top lip?

WordsFailMeAgain · 09/04/2019 19:43

@LondonSouth28 I don’t want to panic because he really is being normal! He has been his usual lovely self until I saw these today so I don’t think he is feeling unwell

*nodules

LondonSouth28 · 09/04/2019 19:46

Obviously I am no vet and cannot say if they are warts but if they are then do not panic at all! My GR got them alll over his lips - looked terrible. But he was fine and one day they all went away. I have two GRs and the younger one never got them. I guess they're exactly like warts in kids! Is your dog very social? So my GRs are out and about with other dogs all the time so even more likely to have got them.

LondonSouth28 · 09/04/2019 19:47

Now can we have a lovely picture on him?! A 7 month old GS sounds very cute with those crazy cute oversized ears!

WordsFailMeAgain · 09/04/2019 19:48

@fluorescentorange he has always had bumpy lower lips, glands. But they have gone red.

My lab x had them, they are wary like growths that come and go over a period of months. As he got older ( 17 yrs ish ) he got a few in other places too like his jaw ( outside his mouth ) and his tummy. They never caused any problems

fluorescentorange · 09/04/2019 19:53

WordsFailMeAgain. He has probably been scratching at the side of his mouth, I am quite sure they are nothing to worry about. They are NOT ticks. Try not to worry about him, if he is happy then I am sure he is fine.

fizzybubblepop · 09/04/2019 19:55

I have a GSD dog too! They look like little wart things (can't remember what the vet actually called them) My Rosie has them in the same place when she about a few months old. I took her to the vet and they said she should be able to fight them off herself. Within a few weeks they were gone and have never returned. I would suggest getting them checked by a vet though

IncrediblySadToo · 09/04/2019 19:57

Aww. Hope it’s ‘something & nothing’.
