It’s either at least 2, possibly 3 and one a Masters probably from Oxbridge, or left school with one GCSE in home economics......

My quiz team friend has three Masters degrees and a PhD. None of which are of any use in answering relevant the quiz questions but he has a general knowledge to match.

NunoGoncalves · 06/04/2019 12:19

So the answer is... They often do have one degree.

Strange thread.

madcatladyforever · 06/04/2019 12:20

haha I've only got one and that was incredibly reluctantly later on in life to get the job I wanted.

As at least one pp has said, if you’re an academic in my field, a first degree, a master’s and a PhD are pretty standard, and people often — me included — end up with another master’s (MRes/MSt) en route.

I had scholarships for all four.

RikoBitch · 06/04/2019 12:28

I have just one, and a postgrad. No energy or money for more

bellinisurge · 06/04/2019 12:33

Only one here. DH has two. Both our dads left school at 14 if that helps.

ContinuityError · 06/04/2019 12:37

I was a bit Hmm when we sold our house to two professors and the stuck up neighbour was saying how nice it would be to have such educated people in the close - DH and I have 5 degrees between us.

beebreath · 06/04/2019 12:40

I don't have one.

I've got a BAGA 3 award.

Degrees weren't essential when I left school (1984). In a good job with years of experience behind me.

grasspigeons · 06/04/2019 12:42

I don't have one so at least one poster has the one I should have.

shitpark · 06/04/2019 12:43

When I did my postgrad stuff, it just felt natural to me. But times have changed, more competitive market, and it's expected as a starting point. Teachers are expected to get further qualifications now, I know lots of teachers with masters and a couple with ph.Ds

Gwenhwyfar · 06/04/2019 12:45

I have two, but no masters (some post grad courses, but not a masters). I do sometimes say for a joke 'my first degree...' just to make people think I may have a masters or some kind of advanced degree :)

Maybe you can do an evening course at a tech in Oxford and then you can go around saying 'when I was a student in Oxford' :)

shitpark · 06/04/2019 12:46

Ordinary degree and PGCE is not enough anymore, especially for teaching at secondary. A level teachers have PhDs usually.

FrozenMargarita17 · 06/04/2019 12:48

I have one :)

frenchonion · 06/04/2019 12:53

I have just one. And bloody hard won it was too, I'm still so proud of myself as I did it with OU when pregnant / on maternity leave and working full time, then completed it with two under two. It's in a daft subject though (eng lit - wish I'd done something a bit more job related!!). I'd like to do another though. I will when I can afford it.

APurpleSquirrel · 06/04/2019 12:53

I have two - a BA (2.1) & a BSc (1st) but no masters or phd - would love to do a masters but want to get my PGCE next.

evilharpy · 06/04/2019 12:54

I have none Grin

I have GCSEs, various NVQ and HNC type qualifications in an array of areas, all of which I worked in for a while before getting bored, two language A levels I did as an adult, and professional qualifications up to level 6 in the area I now work in. But no degree. When I win the lottery I’m going to do an OU maths degree.

YouBumder · 06/04/2019 12:55

I only have one and a postgrad diploma. No time, inclination or money to do more and I don’t need it for work.

RightAngle · 06/04/2019 13:04

I've got 90 degrees.Wink

PurpleDaisies · 06/04/2019 13:11

I’ve converted my degrees to radians.

thetwinkletoescollective · 06/04/2019 13:15

I have one degree, QTS - from a non-PGCE route, PGCE, and I am working towards my masters.

I used to lead a learning support department and the majority of the LSA's (that I employed) had masters degrees...so I was less qualified academically than my team.

LSA's earn a pittance and I was surprised how the demographic of those applying changed and the educational standard raised whilel I was there.

TanteRose · 06/04/2019 13:16

OMG I've just scared DH by guffawing at thick as minge Grin

BertrandRussell · 06/04/2019 13:18

“I don't have any but I do have a Tufty badge which I think is far more impressive.“

So jealous!

EdWinchester · 06/04/2019 13:18

I think it's pretty common to have 2, tbh. Most of my team at work have 2.

I have 2, and a masters. First one was in a subject I enjoyed at school (English) second was career related.

vampirethriller · 06/04/2019 13:19

I've got one.

BarbaraofSevillle · 06/04/2019 13:29

Grin at RightAngle and PurpleZero.
