What car should I buy?

I have always had boring cars and I want something a bit nicer. I currently drive a Suzuki Swift which I love but it's steady and old like me.
I want something with a bit of go in it. A hatchback, not too big, 5 doors, 1.6 to 2.0l engine, petrol. Budget is around £10k cash but could go a bit higher.

Just realised you wanted a fast car.

What about a small BMW? or a BMW3 series coupe type of thing.

oldwhyno · 09/04/2019 15:08

Try a Golf. Best go kart ever.

Well I test drove a Mazda2 1.5 sport yesterday and it was a little beauty of a car. Deep sparkly navy. Then I drove a Mini Cooper 1.5 and it knocked the Mazda out of the water.
I think I'm sold on a Mini ,just got to find one with the right bells and whistles.

You could get a brand new FIAT 500 for that much. Not fast but zippy. Shops around dealers and you can get them for about £10k

blaaake I'm getting my peppers mixed up with my chilli's Grin.
Fiat 500s are cute if you are 17, a friend's DD has one.
but they just don't appeal to me.

Has anyone recommended a Mini, OP? Grin

As per your test drive post, once you've driven one, you surely can't buy anything else?

I got a Convertible Cooper in November and I LOVE it! So solidly built and such fun to drive.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 09/04/2019 16:12

Kia Rio or C’eed
Nissan Juke
Honda
Renault
Mazda CX3

I think Minis aren’t very comfortable.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 09/04/2019 16:14

Kia Picanto? One of the higher spec ones (to get the sat nav etc). If your current car is over seven years old, they do a £2K scrappage scheme on a brand new one which I've just done.

As someone else said above about their car "it makes me happy to drive!".

(And yes, there is a motoring section on MN but I'm buggered if I can remember where I found it!)

bloodywhitecat · 09/04/2019 16:18

I have a 1.0L Ford Fiesta eco boost (140bhp), goes like shit off a shovel, built in satnav and bluetooth service interval is every 18,000 miles.

LesLavandes · 09/04/2019 16:21

I'm just about to buy a Mini Clubman

shartsi · 09/04/2019 16:22

I just bought a mini countryman. I love it.

bloodywhitecat · 09/04/2019 16:34

And you can adjust the rake of the seat so the position can be bolt upright if you prefer it that way

savageswimmer · 09/04/2019 16:35

Mini! Or an Audi A1.

bakereld · 09/04/2019 16:39

I second an eco-boost fiesta, absolutely love mine!

stucknoue · 09/04/2019 16:47

Mazda fan here, I have a big one but would like a zippy one too!

HoozNext · 09/04/2019 17:11

DS has a Fiesta ST. Now that really goes. I've driven it and you feel very laid down in the driver's seat. I like to be upright even if it looks uncool.
Lots of votes for Mini here.Grin.
