What car should I buy?

I have always had boring cars and I want something a bit nicer. I currently drive a Suzuki Swift which I love but it's steady and old like me.
I want something with a bit of go in it. A hatchback, not too big, 5 doors, 1.6 to 2.0l engine, petrol. Budget is around £10k cash but could go a bit higher.

Do you actually need a car? Even by MN standards that's a classic Grin.

Some great ideas here. I've been randomly looking on auto trader.
Having so little car knowledge I always thought all BMW's and mercs were massive.
PurpleDaisies DS1 has a fiesta and while it's lovely to drive the seating position is a little too laid back for me.
WBWIFE I do Iike my Suzuki swift but thought the Vitara was an SUV.
Don't leave me Micky Grin

Honda Civic? Suzuki baleno

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 05/04/2019 19:57

Get a mini. The new ones are amazing.

My first car was a mini, beige with brown seats😎

We've just bought a brand new mini clubman which is a dream to drive and very nippy. Plus it just makes me happy to drive.

TheFaerieQueene · 05/04/2019 20:00

I have a mini 5 door. Just bought it a couple of months ago. It’s super.

colehawlins - I sold my car and Ive been getting around with a hoop and stick, so much better for the environment but it's a bit sluggish going down the M4. Grin

Carolwithane · 05/04/2019 20:08

Mazda 2 ? I absolutely loved mine - was devastated when I had to change it (had DS needed 5 doors Sad ) Bloody babies lol

Smile

I suppose you could just wear your luggage.

Depending on the kind of thing you want: I love little Fiat 500's as they're quirky and I love the cream interiors. I also would love an Audi A1 or a Mini Countryman.
I drive a Peugeot 208 which is very nippy and looks quite sporty.

yorkshirepud44 · 05/04/2019 20:50

I drive lots of different cars in our work fleet and always love getting my golf back. It's just great to drive.

I also like the Audi A3 and seat Leon fr.

beanaseireann · 05/04/2019 21:20

Is there a Car section on Mumsnet?

I love the look of the Nissan Juke.
Chunky.
Or the Nissan Quashquai.
Dsil has a Mini as does a work colleague. They love them.
I think a Fiat 500 is cute but I'm not sure I'd like to be driving one down the motorway with juggernauts whizzing past.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 05/04/2019 21:24

I had a Hyundai i20 Coupe and I loved it. Mine was the 1.2 which was a bit sluggish but they brought out a 1.0 turbo. I've now got a 5 door i20 turbo which I love but I do miss my Coupe!

DrEmilyCrabtree · 05/04/2019 21:28

I went from a Suzuki swift to a Hyundai ix20 (outing myself here). I absolutely love it. Feels great to drive. I have a 1.4l but its really nippy and feels very good on motorway too. Went for the ix20 cos ith 2 dcs now I needed a bit more room than the swift had. If you didn't need that you could look at the i20/i30

HoozNext · 05/04/2019 22:21

Hmm. Mini seems to be a favourite. I've spotted a nice black one for £10500 not far from me. Might have a test drive.
DrEmilyCrabtree will Google Hyundai. I like a coupe. Used to have a Mitsubishi coupe about 30 years ago.

Another vote for the Suzuki Vitara, have had ours just over a month and it's just perfect - nippy, Cindy, easy to park yet roomy enough for 2 adults and 2 lanky teens.

MrsChollySawcutt · 05/04/2019 23:28

Comfy not Cindy

WeaselKingHenry · 06/04/2019 09:43

For reliability VW and lots of Japanese’s brands - but in your position I would drive what would make me smile.

I’m thinking of a mini convertible for my next car.

Crappywife · 06/04/2019 09:51

Another vote for Nissan Juke. I bought mine a month ago. I feels solid but is only small so not difficult to park. Mines a 1.5 diesel and it shifts, the steering is very light and costs me half as much to run as my old petrol car. I adore it and it’s lovely to drive. I feel like the bees knees driving it Grin

Crappywife · 06/04/2019 09:52

It feels solid .... not I (haha)

blaaake · 06/04/2019 11:33

If you're getting a mini, make sure you go for one with the chili pack as it adds a lot of extras and makes them a lot nicer

HoozNext · 06/04/2019 12:11

I don't like Nissan Juke's or Quashquai. They remind me of tortoises, bigger outside than in.

Must be petrol. I don't do huge mileage so running cost is not an issue.

I've been busy googling Minis and a lot don't mention sat nav? I want need sat nav and bluetooth. Does the pepper pack include those blaaake?

OP posts:
blaaake · 09/04/2019 14:18

Sorry for the late reply @HoozNext the pepper pack doesn't really add all that much, for satnav you'll have to look for one with the media pack Smile

lastqueenofscotland · 09/04/2019 14:53

Golf
BMW 1 series

Annasgirl · 09/04/2019 14:55

How about a cute fiat 500? I love them but have 3 DC so can't have one yet. The blue one with cream leather interior is so fab!!

More sensible, Citroen C3; Mini Cooper (with a sunroof maybe?); Audi A2.
