Shop from the 90s

Can anyone the name of this 90s shop? They used to sell giftware, think pens with a floral pattern, patterned notebooks, jewellery, clocks, scarves...can't really remember much else to be honest, but it popped into my head as one of those shops I'd go into on a Saturday and browse when I was first allowed to go into town on the bus by myself 😂

Sounds a bit like Past Times. They had loads of stuff like that.

TheVanguardSix · 04/04/2019 14:05

Yes! Yes, I know... I totally know it will come to me.
There are two I am thinking of. Was it kind of loud, garish colours/flowers?
Or more subdued. There was also a more Victorian style shop called Times Past or something like that?

TheVanguardSix · 04/04/2019 14:06

Yeah, Past Times. That's it.
But there was also that one that sold cards, socks, all sorts of stuff but the theme was bright, almost neon-coloured, flowers and these characters with stick legs.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 04/04/2019 14:06

Oh god I remember being dragged around Past Times. I can't imagine you going in there voluntarily though Grin

TheHatOfDoom · 04/04/2019 14:08

Is the second shop Athena?

ferfexake · 04/04/2019 14:08

Got it in one, thank you Pascha. I don't even know what reminded me of it, but yes, Past Times and all the tat (that I thought was so sophisticated)...!

I wonder if anyone still has anything from there that they still use of wear.

Years ago I bought a little set of sterling silver Christmas pudding charms online from Past Times as a gift to a relative.

Instead of sending me one carded item I received a large shoe box shaped box full of them! I can't remember how many now at least 50.

I phoned them up and the lady said to keep them. I was gobsmacked.

I gave some away as gifts then sold the rest.

No wonder they went bust.

Ragnarthe · 04/04/2019 14:32

Have you looked at Museum Selection online? It's a lot like past times but more expensive

BareBelliedSneetch · 04/04/2019 14:34

I LOVE the museum selection catalogue. My mum keeps it for me to read at hers (for some reason I never get it here Grin)

implantsandaDyson · 04/04/2019 14:35

I have a Christmas musical snow globe that someone bought for my first daughter when she was a baby, so its 14 years old Shock

onemouseplace · 04/04/2019 14:35

I used to love Past Times, but I was a pretty odd teenager! Looking back it was just full of pastiche tat. I've only just got rid of a photo frame my friend bought me from there though.

onemouseplace · 04/04/2019 14:36

And the more I think about it - yes there was a lot of floral tat in Past Times, but they did have some nice Art Deco style bits if you hunted round a bit.

AliceAforethought · 04/04/2019 18:23

Oh I miss Past Times. I used to love it!

I wonder if anyone still has anything from there that they still use of wear

Yes, me!
I still have a lovely "medieval" silver and moonstone necklace with earrings.
They did have some nice jewellery!

DontCallMeShitley · 04/04/2019 19:19

Past Times - Cat Christmas tree baubles and fake Clarice Cliff tea sets, dingy looking clocks, and ugly ornaments. Twee animal figurines, grim Christmas stuff with green and red ribbons.

I have a gargoyl pen pot bought because it was ugly but always struggled to find anything I wanted to buy in there.

NowIKnowHowJoanFelt · 04/04/2019 19:21

I adored Past Times. Still have a few bits.

DelurkingAJ · 04/04/2019 19:23

I have some earrings my DGM bought me from there. Mackintosh type motif. Still wear them.

CatToddlerUprising · 04/04/2019 19:25

I loved Past Times. Only been 7 years since it closed

Palominoo · 04/04/2019 19:51

There is a shop in McArthur Glen, Bridgend thst is a little bit similar.

I'll Google the store.

Babyfoal · 04/04/2019 19:54

I still shop at Past Times. There's one aT Freeport in Essex.

peoplearepeople · 04/04/2019 20:00

I also loved Past times. I still have quite a lot of their celtic style jewellery that I wear a lot. Smile

It's a mixture of hideous items along with hideous but fabulous at the same time such as huge resin gorilla's and bench's in the shape of a Dashchund dog!

I hate ornaments but found a large resin realistic Shetland pony very compelling and my daughter had to drag me out the shop lest I bought it!

I wouldn't have been able to carry it as it was so large and heavy!

bsc · 04/04/2019 20:10

I have a pair of pearl drop earrings that were from past times, that I wore when I got married- still have those, and still wear them from time to time.

WatchingFromTheWings · 04/04/2019 20:20

I wonder if anyone still has anything from there that they still use or wear.

I've got a couple of items of jewellery, one piece (a ring) I still wear.

GummyGoddess · 04/04/2019 20:38

I love museum selection too. I use their catalogue and Lakeland's as leisure time reading material!

I used to enjoy those magazines that were full of absolute crap and gadgets. Everything from furniture coasters, anti slip seat pads, shower chairs, mascara eye glasses to ultra static-y nighties and garden ornaments. Didn't want to buy anything, but was fascinated by the number of ridiculous items
