Random travelling question: would you go alone if your friend couldn't make it

Imagine you're a mid-20s female who's going on holiday for a week (somewhere in europe that she hasn't been to before) with a slightly older male friend. If he suddenly could not make it (either due to health or documentation issues etc.. literally anything) which you get told about e.g. a few days in advance or even on the day at the airport, would you go without him as you've paid for non-refundable flight and hotel tickets and got annual leave from work etc.? Bearing in mind you'd be travelling alone, have no relatives in that country, etc.

Not based on any real life events but just asking out of curiosity

I would. I spent too long doing stuff that suited my ex, so I'd just get up and go now. Why should both of you waste the money, tickets, etc?

VeronicaDinner · 02/04/2019 21:12

Yeah, I would.

Palominoo · 02/04/2019 21:13

Yes I would go.

soupmaker · 02/04/2019 21:15

Sounds utterly blissful. A week away on my own doing what I want when I want. I've travelled alone a fair bit and love it. A full Kindle, a decent guide book, a least a few words of the local language, and a smile go a long way to making a great holiday.

Elderflower14 · 02/04/2019 21:15

I've done Paris, Rome and Amsterdam on my own and loved it. You can go where you want, when you want! Go for it!! ♥

teyem · 02/04/2019 21:16

Yes, I would. I loveed travelling alone pre DH and dcs. It's very freeing to do as you please without compromise

Lulumush · 02/04/2019 21:17

Yes. I travelled a lot in my 20s on my own. Loved it. And no iPhone in those days either.

Oblomov19 · 02/04/2019 21:23

God.Yes. No. Question.

HolyForkingShirt · 02/04/2019 21:29

Yes! I wouldn't even have invited the friend in the first place lol. I love travelling alone, even when I'm in a relationship.

SeeYouLaterUserData · 02/04/2019 21:31

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 02/04/2019 21:32

I have and I would do it again

EmpressLesbianInChair · 02/04/2019 21:36

Why not? I love going on holiday alone.

PH03b3 · 02/04/2019 21:38

I would so long as it isn't going to a place that puts me at risk traveling alone such as the middle east i wouldn't feel comfortable somewhere European or the States definitely

BigSandyBalls2015 · 02/04/2019 21:39

TreadingThePrimrosePath · 02/04/2019 21:49

Well, the mid-twenties female I was certainly would have. Why would you not?

Still18atheart · 02/04/2019 21:52

I’m in my mid 20s and 100% definitely go

MigThePig · 02/04/2019 21:52

Hell yes!
Traveling is ruined by someone else, you talk mostly to them instead of all the interesting, random people you'd meet on your own. You have to constantly compromise on what you want to do, where/when you want eat/go to bed etc.

Freedom to go away on my own is one of the things I really miss since getting married and having a DC, if you get the chance, make the most of it!

Still18atheart · 02/04/2019 21:53

I mean I would defo go

DoctorDread · 02/04/2019 21:56

Absolutely.

WickedGoodDoge · 02/04/2019 21:56

Absolutely! I daydream of being able to head off by myself somewhere without my pesky family. Grin

donajimena · 02/04/2019 21:58

I have done it. I had a wonderful 5 nights in Barcelona on my own. I should have been going on a romantic mini break but I got dumped. I was very upset about being dumped but I was also pissed off about missing my holiday.
In a fit of pique I booked a solo trip. I didn't venture out in the night as my hotel wasn't in the best part of the city but I had a wonderful time exploring in the day.

fabulous01 · 02/04/2019 21:59
